New Reward Cards & Tournament Updates

Hey there Splinter-fans, we have some exciting announcements for you today, including new Reward Edition cards and an update to how anytime tournament payouts are handled based on your feedback.

Let us know what you think of the update and the new cards in the comments, and we look forward to seeing you on the battlefield!

New Reward Cards

First up, we are going to be adding 14 new Reward Edition cards to the game to replace ones that have either recently run out of print, or will run out in the near future.

The new cards are planned to be released on Monday, June 29th, around 9 - 10 AM ET, and we will reveal a few at a time over the course of the week, starting with the first three right now!

There will also be a new ability featured on some of the new cards, so stay tuned for more details about that as well!

Kretch Tallevor

First up we have a new Reward Edition Summoner, Kretch Tallevor. A lot of players have been asking for a new Reward Edition Summoner for some time since Daria Dragonscale went out of print, and now it's here!

Although Kretch does not have provide any buffs or debuffs, he is the first non-Legendary 3-mana Dragon Splinter Summoner, and we hope that he will give more players an opportunity to use the Dragon Splinter without having to acquire Legendary or out-of-print cards.

Many of the Dragonborne do not take the full form of Dragons, but rather are endowed with certain dragonlike features. Depending on how many, and which dragontraits a person possesses, they are given (or denied) everything. Kretch Tallevor is himself an odd combination of dragontraits. He was born from an egg, which set him early onto a path of privilege and power among the Gloridax. Tallevor’s long, pointed teeth resemble the fangs of a Tunnel Dragon. His spiked tail looks like that of a wild Lightning Dragon, and the scales on his chest and arms are hardened like the famous Diamond Dragon. Kretch Tallevor’s weapon is a powerful enchanted scimitar named Yulusor.

Phantasm

The Phantasm is a Common Death Splinter monster that we expect will make a strong tank in many situations. His Flying ability and relatively high Speed will make him difficult to hit for Melee and Ranged attacks, and he is the first Death Splinter monster to have the Return Fire ability to give him an added punch against Ranged enemies.

Many of the creatures of Mortis are terrifying and mysterious, even to the Dark Eternals themselves. When the Dark Tzar convinced him so many years ago to tamper with the rules of death, the Lord of Darkness never knew the true scope of the multitude of terrors he would be unleashing forever onto the Splinterlands. The approach of a Phantasm is never expected. They are always presumed to be a figment of their victim's imagination, until the pain begins. The pain is very real.

Bila the Radiant

Bila the Radiant is a new Legendary Life Splinter monster which we expect will be a very nice addition to the Life Splinter in higher mana cap battles. She is the first Life Splinter monster with the Life Leech ability, which means that she gains health every time she damages an enemy, and she also has the Divine Shield ability so that the first time she takes damage it is ignored, and she has a chance to Stun her targets with every hit.

Only weeks after the thaw of the Khymian north, a lone woman descended from the heights of Angel Summit and trekked toward Shimmer City. She is a beautiful, luminous vision of a woman, and no Khymian could argue the divine origins of her journey. She came to the city as a benevolent savior, a selfless servant of the people, but also a wizard whose magical powers are unmatched on the Mount Mox battlefield. She fights solely for Khymeria, a fact which has attracted the suspicion of not only the Order of the Silver Shield, but the Gloridax and the Dragon Masters. Bila has made no pretense about the land from which she hails. She is one of the Solaki, the original Moon Daughters who live today on an island in the sky.

Anytime Tournament Payouts

Based on player feedback, we will be changing the payout structure for anytime tournaments so that players who have the same record (meaning the same number of wins, losses, and draws) at the end of an anytime tournament will receive an equal prize as often as possible.

The way this will work is that if two or more players are tied (have the same record) at the end of the tournament, then they will still be ranked by the existing tie-breaker mechanism, but the prizes that each of them would receive will be totalled and divided evenly between them.

For example, if four players have a tied record for the top spots in a tournament with the following payouts:

  • 1st place: 1000 DEC
  • 2nd place: 500 DEC
  • 3rd & 4th place: 250 DEC

Then the four prizes will be totalled (1000 + 500 + 250 + 250 = 2000) and divided by four since there are four players that have tied for those positions (2000 / 4 = 500). This means that each of those four players will receive 500 DEC instead of 1000, 500, 250, and 250 DEC respectively based on the tie-breaker score as it would be currently.

We agree with the numerous players who have requested this change that it should provide a much more fair and equitable prize distribution than the current system for the anytime tournaments.

Please note that this is only possible for prizes paid out in fungible cryptocurrency tokens, such as DEC. Custom prizes will still use the existing tie-breaker score to determine the winners.

This change is currently undergoing testing and is scheduled to be released on Monday, June 29th, around 9 - 10AM ET.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Splinterlands!

Oh man this is awesome! The new monsters look really great. I don't know which one I like more out of those 3. Looking forward to flipping some of them in the future! Perhaps I can finally get a decent high level summoner out of this!

Thanks for the update and the updates recently, making some awesome changes to make the game even better!

"1st place: 1000 DEC
2nd place: 500 DEC
3rd & 4th place: 250 DEC"

Let's say not 4 but 5 players have a tied record for the top spots in a tournament.
What will happen now ?

  • the five prizes will be totalled (1000 + 500 + 250 + 250 = 2000) and divided by five since there are five players that have tied for those positions (2000 / 5 = 400).

or the prices will be only shared between the first four and the fifth get noting ?

If five players have tied and there is no prize for 5th place, then in this example the five players will split the reward, so they will each receive 400 DEC as you have said.

Thanks, I really appreciate this change. It's fair and the best way in my opinion.

:reply:
I am pretty sure it would be
(1000+500+250*2+prize for 5th)/5
Cheers!

Thanks, @yabapmatt answerred and so it will be like you told - very good change !
Also if it can happen that you got very small amount of DEC if the 32th place (from 32) tied with 20 more places, but in every case fair.

:fact:
It will always be like @yabapmatt and @agroed told. We can talk what ever and for as long as we like.
:thought:
Indeed good change in tournament prizes. I commented about bad aspects of Anywhere tournament system, that is Swiss system.
Commenting...
... and commenting...
Cheers!

"that is Swiss system"

No this is not Swiss system.

I am a chessplayer and so I know what is swiss system very well, to say more I even not only a chessplayer I am also coach and arbiter in chess.

:fact:
I agree with you this not being a Swiss system as in normal chess tournament. Also, one variant called McMahon system is used for goe tournaments, and I used to be goe coach and arbiter. In Anytime is something more complicated as pairing is not following the rounds to fully play out.
:reply:
I think there is no need to go into discussion but to only leave our info. What I emphasized in my comment was trouble with tie-breakers in determining who gets which tournament reward. After this @splinterlands decision it is now the past.
Cheers!

Looking forward to a stronger magic line up for my life splinter.

The new monsters are very cool an the new summoner is good for new players.

Another Summoner reward card? That is fantastic news! And I can't wait to give the Phantasm a try in battle.

So what card is in order of what card

Bila the Radiant "replaces" Fallen Specter

Phantasm "replaces" whom?

and

Kretch Tallevor "replaces" whom?

An epic and a common. Probably spirit shaman and beetle queen or furious chicken.

beetle queen, furious chicken and naga windmaster are going out of print

These are Rare ones.
The presented are Epic, Common and Legendary
totally non compared by the Rarity Type. So you missed!

The day after my birthday haha well great news how do you come up with these cards... genius.

:reply:
Never ending changes. Never ending investing.

Change in rewarding sounds fair.

I am pleased with you good work at @splinterlands.
:thought:
What about additional limiting. Although "farming" DEC of ranked by many bots, as well as players with many accounts, is reality, would it not be fair for all players to limit that such an owner of many accounts receive exactly one tournament reward and not one for every his account that is in the rewarding tournament places. In other words, how about limiting farming tournament prizes?
Cheers!

That limits wanting to own more cards, which is a detriment to the market.

:reply:
Having thought about it, I can tell you that every new player is in need of boosting her motive for playing more and even for investing more into his cards. That is what a fair tournament prize will achieve. Furthermore, I am sure that no market would get destroyed because of such a decision, but on the contrary more motivated newcomers will grow the card and renting markets.
Cheers!

1 person buying $20,000 worth of cards is more valuable to the market than 500 people spending $25. Noone will buy $20,000 worth of cards if they can't put them to use. Yes, some people buy that much or more. So this would hurt high-profile card holders.

A new player does not have to worry about any of this. They won't be able to win high level tournaments without high level cards anyway. There are bronze and novice tournaments they can participate on equal grounds with everyone else.

:fact:
Just now, @Jarvie talked a lot about it. Everything is on @splinterlands if they want to make foundations of the game economy. As it is now, anybody investing 20k USD that you commented is making bad decision.

Also not every called market is a real market place. There is a subtle definition of conditions making a market. For example, you can find it in a book "Elliot's wave theory". Everything around the game is no market.
:reply:
In my comments, I am talking about new players and how good it is that they succeed in normal manners to play good and win a tournament prize. Because when I was a noob, I managed to win a few prizes and it boosted my motive to stay with the game and make some investment (far from 20k USD that you commented). After all, @splinterlands are investing in bringing more new players.

That is also a way of building a market IMO.
Cheers!

Now I understand. But every newbie has a fair chance against others in novice and bronze tournaments. I don't see your suggestion heavily affecting this without harming some non-newbie players. In my opinion, creating non-tournament events mainly targeted at new players would be a better option, but there is no system for that atm. It would probably have to be directed by a portion of the community.

:fact:
At the end of the day, @splinterlands are the one making decisions. Apparently there is no interest about this topic.
:thanks:
Thank you @Felipejoys for sharing opinions here.
Cheers!

I love new cards!

Phantasm will be a nice addition to my death splinter.

The new cards are great

Nice looking forward to hopefully getting some of these cards. :D

Change to tournament payout makes total sense, great work! 😎

Which cards are going out of print?

Another nice job of communicating and listening to the players on the tourneys... And I love the new reward cards, can't wait to get them! Great job SPL team! :)

interesting!!!

I like the new cards. They look very useful, all 3 of them.

Is it possible to invest and having income from this game?

Yes you can rent out your cards on the open market or buy and sell cards or win and sell cards the ways to make money is endless

okay, but I have to first buy some Hive for start playing? or I can start playing for free?

You can start playing for free with a “basic deck” that you don’t own and try to win new cards but it would be better to just buy a starter pack! I’ve only spent $25 on the game back when it first started and my deck is now worth $530

Ballin! 530 is solid man

You can buy your starter sorcerers spellbook for 10 bucks through paypal on the site.

And if i'm not mistaken, That gives you a Hive account. "don't quote me."

new cards are awesome

Cant wait to get them.... awesome...

hi @splinterlands I am really excited for these awesome cards. Definitely try it out.

Nice addition to summoners cards.
I'm glad I've maxed my Daria.

Nice I like that change for sure. The breakers seems so random.

Ehey, @splinterlands

Will we see smth like this next days?

This is awesome! I am expecting something for myself in the upcoming airdrops and daily and end of the season rewards. I recently bought 17 untamed packs and got many unwanted cards. Also, for the first time during my entire time with this game, I reached Champion III position. I am hoping to improve in the upcoming season.
