I’ll be sharing a series of quick-and-easy deck blueprints for the complete Splinterlands beginner. This will cover a starter deck for each Splinter using only the free starter set of cards. I’ll try to add a few suggestions for low cap mana and high cap mana battles too. Some of those alternatives might be cards you need to buy, no need to do so but they might spice up your game life a bit.

This time out in the Splinterlands Starter Deck Series is the Life Splinter.

The Summoner and the Strategy

For out summoner we’ll be using Mother Khala. She gives a +1 health bonus to all friendly monsters. More health means more survivability for your tank and the squishier monsters.

1st Card (Tank): Shieldbearer

The Shieldbearer is quite expensive but he’s a really great Tank. He has high Armor, high Health, and a decent Speed. Everything a great tank needs. On top of this, he has the Taunt ability, forcing all enemy monsters (who are able) to attack him, thus protecting your weaker monsters.

Magic Counter Alternative
The Clay Golem is a good alternative tank to choose when facing off against a Magic focused enemy deck. Its Void ability reduces the damage of enemy Magic attacks.

2nd Card: Luminous Eagle

The Luminous Eagle is a great 2nd position card due to its Reach ability. It also has the Flying ability which increases its chance to dodge enemy attacks. Having a speed of 3 and an attack of 2 means it can pack quite a punch.

Low Mana Cap Alternative
The Silvershield Warrior is a good and cheap Reach alternative. Quite a lot cheaper, and that shows in its stats, but having such a strong tank as the Shieldbearer will absorb a lot of damage.

3rd Card: Divine Healer

Including a healer in this deck is a good idea. The Divine Healer will restore health to your Shieldbearer making him able to longer protect your other monsters.

The position of your healer can be adjusted based on your other card choices, but placing the healer in the middle of the deck means your healer is protected both from the front and from the back.

Bought Card Alternative
The Venari Crystalsmith is a great alternative to the Divine Healer. It’s costs just one more mana, and add a ranged attack with a bit higher speed, and it heals just as well. You’d basically always try to field the Crystalsmith instead of the Divine Healer if it can be afforded.

This card is currently in the Reward pool and can be drawn from Reward chests so it’s quite easy to acquire for free. Otherwise it can be bought on the marketplace (I’d use MonsterMarket.io) for around $1.2.

The Rest of the Deck

Having chosen a great tank, a good Reach behind the tank, and a healer, you’ll want to fill up on as many good damage dealers as you can fit. Choosing ranged monsters, Magic casters and melee attackers with the Opportunity and Sneak abilities is the way to go. Whichever of the monsters you are choosing to use, put the sturdiest one in last position to protect the rest from Sneak attacks.

The Feral Spirit is a sneak little kitty with sharp claws. It’s good speed combined with its Sneak ability allows us to quickly swipe away at enemies in last position, where usually weaker monsters are placed.

The Peacebringer is an all around decent monster. Good health, damage, and speed.

The Cave Slug is slow, but has a decent attack with quite a bit of health. It also attacks using Opportunity and attacks from any position targeting the enemy monster with the lowest heath.

The Lone Boatman is a good ranged unit with Snipe. He has a decent ranged attack with decent speed, decent health and armor. He’s a decent guy, wonder why he is alone?

Figuring out a good deck to get you started winning a bit more consistently can be a bit tricky when just starting out in the Splinterlands. Using this basic deck blueprint will give you a starter deck so you can start winning a bit more and and a baseline to work from when improving your deck in the future.

Is good setup. Although I would put the healer 3rd or 4th because attackers never hit those positions and the old lady can heal all the way in the battle. If you use it in the end, cards with sneak ability can kill her very easily after finishing shieldbearer.

Great suggestion! Edit made.

@deivyb, you've been given LUV from @technocrypton.

Check the LUV in your H-E wallet. (1/1)

Why not mention venari crystalsmith? As a current reward card it is cheap, adds damage, and can heal just as well as divine healer.

I made an edit to incorporate this! Thank you for the suggestion and thanks to @cpol for the same suggestion over on noise.cash!

You're welcome!

Great suggestion! I’m working on a separate post about cheap to buy and easy to acquire cards that are great for beginner to invest in, it’ll be included there!
