"Splinterlands" Power Strategy Tips #52

As I have now been playing "Splinterlands" and "Drug Wars" for over a year, I've wanted to contribute something of ACTIONABLE value to my fellow players (and FUTURE players) - but NOT just fill my Steemit feed with daily images of quest reward - or battle - SPAM (no offense to those doing so). Ultimately, Hive is about ADDING VALUE to the social experience - that is the magic of blockchain social media technology. So, after some serious pondering, I decided that a weekly "Splinterlands" player strategy diary" type series, with CONCISE and ACTIONABLE tips, would be of most value to my audience. Please let me know your thoughts (good and/or bad), and I hope that readers (now and into the future) will benefit from this series. If you gain a better understanding of blockchain, gaming, "blockchain gaming", marketing, psychology, forensics, philosophy, ethics, investing, law, and/or any other area(s) of knowledge I end up exploring (voluntarily or involuntarily) as this series naturally progresses, then I will have done my "good deed" (of providing value) for the week. Also, feel free to hit me up on the battlefield.

1 ) Overall, my activity on #Splinterlands has been consistent, and the steady, daily progress in earning 1,000 - 2,000 DEC per day, plus using most of that DEC income to buy at least one (of the more cheaply-priced) gold card (upgrade) per day, plus building my overall skill with the cards by playing them at different levels and rulesets, is creating an upward progress trajectory as the value of my collection, and my ability to gradually increase my daily earnings, move steadily forward. I believe that at this point I am earning AT LEAST a solid $1.00 USD (in DEC) per day (all factors considered) as a result of my overall activity, and so $1.00 USD per day x 365 days per year = AT LEAST $365 USD per year at this point. Although that amount is not going to make me rich, it IS being reinvested into cards, which is paying off a compounding residual interest, and I think this is a good place to be right now, as I also have my Bitcoin sitting and appreciating in value, and have now more seriously started considering investing AT LEAST $5.00 USD per month back into Bitcoin (more below) to start replenishing the Bitcoin I originally sold to get started with Splinterlands. After over a year of playing this game I feel like I have settled into a winning formula, and so now it is mainly an issue of staying on course and putting in the daily play time (ex. completing the daily quest, earning the 1,000 - 2,000 DEC and buying up at least one daily gold card, etc.). There is also always the chance that some of my higher value cards will further skyrocket in value, like the "Yodin Zaku" (Gold summoner) card I got in the previous airdrop, which has now shot up in value from $120 to ~ $300 USD on the market! The hope is that in the long term, MOST of my cards will appreciate significantly in value. I would be content to simply have my Splinterlands collection AT LEAST grow in value to be equal to the ~ 0.50 - 0.75 Bitcoin I have spent on the cards, potions, etc. If I eventually liquidate some/all of my Splinterlands cards to get ALL of that Bitcoin back then this will have been a highly successful project in exploring blockchain gaming. If I can replenish all of the spent Bitcoin and STILL have most of my cards then that would be even better, and the cards would be TANGIBLE PROOF of the overall success of my blockchain adventures.

Screenshot (3130).png

2 ) I received only one (1) airdropped "Chanseus The Great" (non-gold) card for the 6th airdropped card. I was hoping to hit it big on this drop because I intended to sell any/all airdRopped cards because this ONE was a "life" deck airdrop, and I never play the "life" deck. Oh well. What I DID do was sell this card for $17.00 USD on the market, and use that income to buy up some other important cards that I needed. It is more valuable for me to liquidate a card I don't use (even if the value of that card is high) in order to buy up additional cards, and/or upgrades of cards I DO use regularly. In fact, I also saw this week that my one (1) "Yaku Zodin" (Gold) card shot up from $120 USD (when I received it) to nearly $300 USD (market value) this week! So I put that one on the market (for $250 USD), and if/when it sells I intend to buy up two of the high-value gold Orbs cards I have been trying to obtain in the occasional Orbs packs I have been getting in the quest rewards (more on specifics below). However, as I am also keeping track of the number of remaining Orbs packs available for sale (now at 10,779 as of writing this sentence) I am growing concerned that they will sell out within the next month, and that when they do the price of those remaining Orbs cards I want may shoot up beyond my budget. What I may do is buy 10 more Orbs packs per week, using some of the remaining Hive power-down payouts, and any DEC I am able to burn from the future remaining eight Untamed airdrops (although I expect the Orbs* packs to sell out within mere weeks).

Screenshot (3237).png

3 ) On the #DrugWars front I HAVE reached this week's goal of building the army of my second highest-producing base so that I can do up to Level 6 solo jobs. This means that I now have TWO bases doing jobs each day, and will now work on further building the armies of those two bases, using the bunker to safeguard those troops, and now work on building my THIRD highest-producing base so that I can start doing THREE jobs (solo and/or gang jobs) per day. This will bring in more Drug wars Dollars (DWD) income, for myself, as well as the gang.

Looking at the @drugwars situation more broadly, the admin of the game just released a new update this week, TWO MONTHS after the previous update:

https://steemit.com/drugwars/@drugwars/drugwars-is-over

As you can see, this new update is also riddled with gross spelling and grammar errors. When DrugWars first launched they had hired a Russian girl, who spoke good English and had good communication skills, to properly communicate with the player base. She faded away after a few months (a significant red flag), and the fact that DrugWars admin has NOT made the move to the Hive blockchain is another bad sign. I have written about my general opinion about DrugWars in this series over the past months. I have explained how on 2-3 occasions I had reached the point of nearly stopping all activity in the game. The reasons for this are that ( 1 ) there is little "active/dynamic" element to the game (ex. like the active play, with cards, which promotes skill-development in Splinterlands), and the game ultimately feels like I am merely punching numbers into a calculator, and ( 2 ) the DWD income is so minute that I am barely able to buy a few cheap Splinterlands cards with the income each week. So with all of things considered, PLUS the fact that Splinterlands announced a few months ago that it will be rolling out some "territory ownership and resource producing features" update later this year, I think that I will continue with the very bare minimum effort on DrugWars, SIMPLY to continue earning DWD to convert to DEC to buy more cheap Splinterlands cards. I don't see much potential in DrugWars at this point, and since I have already made my original investment of less than 20 Steem into the game back, the rest has been extra income to use to buy Splinterlands cards. I also don't like the fact that DrugWars now remains solely on the blockchain of that SOCIOPATH Justin Sun. It's simply time to move on from Steem, and into the future we have decided to collectively create with Hive. I will also stop duplicating posting these posts on Steemit as well, for the same reason. So that is where things stand. I may limit my DrugWars activity to simply withdrawing all accumulated DWD once a week, or two weeks, or monthly at this point, until the game just fades out. I have now also taken the "Drug Wars" part of the title out of the posts in this series, to concentrate fully on Splinterlands.

Screenshot (3171).png

4 ) I had some emergency survival expenses this week, and plan to have a few more over the next few months, and so I had to sell 0.06 Bitcoin this past week, and will likely have to sell around another 0.10 Bitcoin over the next two months. This is actually a significant amount of my total remaining Bitcoin, and so I am now MORE SERIOUSLY considering starting to replenish my Bitcoin reserves using some of the income I am earning with #Splinerlands. The main issue is figuring out how much Bitcoin to convert my DEC into per month. I mean, I could EASILY do a monthly buy of $5.00 USD per month, but at the current Bitcoin price of over $9,000 USD that $5.00 will be so miniscule. On the other hand, there is the issue of whether that $5.00 USD could be more productively used in the Splinterlands game ITSELF, instead of sitting idle (in the form of BTC) in my Bitcoin wallet. Another idea I am considering is that I could purchase, let's say, $25.00 USD/month of "credit" in Splinterlands, as a way of gradually replenishing the Bitcoin value which I converted to fiat over the past year. This would allow me to make faster headway (at $25/month instead of $5/month), WHILE ALSO using that fiat value in the game and earning from it. This would ALSO be an easier way to "hide" my crypto investment activity as more of a "retail" purchase as opposed to "buying Bitcoin" straight out. I will think more seriously about these options this next week, and try to choose one and put it into action by the end of the month of July. The core issue is that my income has taken a major hit due to COVID, and so whereas before this crisis I was at least staying afloat (with "money in" basically balancing "money out") I now have more money "going out", and so have been tapping into my only saving (which is my Bitcoin, sadly - although I am sure glad I acquired my BTC at $200 - $300 USD/BTC back in around 2013-2014, as the increase in price since then has made it possible to use my BTC holdings as literally "survival funds"). But I sure wish I can figure out a way to stop having to tap further into my reserves. Guess I'll just have to leave it up to the "crypto gods" to come through with some miracles. Fingers crossed.

5 ) Okay. As I did in the last post in this series, the highly-detailed "diary" of my daily #steemmonsters / #splinterlands activity is laid out in the last part of this post, for those of you who are inclined to follow, more closely, what I am doing. It occurred to me that this "diary" section is JUST THAT - a highly detailed record of my daily activity in the game, with some JUICY "play-by-play" analysis notes, and commentary, on what works, what doesn't, and some suggestions for further tweaking and experimentation. So, with this in mind, I hope some/any of you will enjoy this information. If not, you are under no pressure to read it fully, and are free to SKIM, or even IGNORE, any parts, or ALL parts, completely - at your discretion. I lay this out because it also HELPS ME to document my progress in the game over time, and may help some people NOW, and into the perpetual future...

Today I checked and saw that the one "Yodin Zaku" (Gold - Level 2) card which I got in the previous airdrop last month, an was valued at $120 USD at the time, has jumped all the way up to $300 USD on the market! That is more than a DOUBLING of value in just a month, and further offsets the ~ $1,500 USD I originally spent on my ~ 990 Untamed packs. And since I have NOT been using this summoner card, BUT have wanted to upgrade a few of the high-value Orbs cards I currently hold (specifically the "Minotaur Warrior" and "Corrupted Pegasys" (Gold) cards) I have decided to put the "Yodin Zaku" (Gold) card for sale on the market for $300 USD, and buy up the final "Minotaur Warrior" (Gold) card that I need to max this one out, AND one more "Corrupted Pegasys" (Gold) card to bump that card up to Level 3 (to unlock the powerful "tank heal" ability). This will also leave open the POTENTIAL to max out the "Corrupted Pegasys" (Gold) with two more cards (which I may be able to do with future airdropped cards. Since, as of writing this sentence, there are now 12,245 Orbs packs remaining, I believe that this strategy will enable me to QUICKLY reach my main goal for upgrading these cards, so I can begin using them at the intended level in battles, while also leaving open the possibility to hit the remaining two "Corrupted Pegasys" (Gold) cards in the remaining Orbs packs I get in the daily quests. This is also a good example of how the airdropped cards can SIGNIFICANTLY offset the cost of the packs, AS WELL AS how such rare, high-value cards can be liquidated in order to buy a some of the more expensive, important cards which you use more often. In addition, the "Minotaur Warrior" and "Corrupted Pegasys" gold cards are BOTH "gold promo cards, and so they earn 20% DEC bonus per won battle (10% for "gold, plus 10% for "promo"), and so in the longer term the ROI on upgrading these cards is significant, and then residual income from them can be used to buy other (cheaper) cards.

Had a FIENDING urge to open a bunch of packs, and realized that I never opened up to (+10 free) packs that I got with my previous 100 (+10 free) pack batch purchase last month. So I decided to indulge myself and open up those 10 packs:

Total Cost of 10 packs = 20,000 DEC --> Total DEC value of all cards = 2,760 DEC. Got the following two higher-value cards:

"Gloridax Magus" (non-gold (legendary "dragon" - $1.40 USD - 1,000 DEC) --> 1,230 DEC

(+) 0 DEC
potions - 3 legendary potions, 4 alchemy/gold potions
Orbs - 0 packs
DEC - 94 DEC

converted 58.851 Steem power-down to 18,254.6 DEC

Saw that the remaining number of Orbs packs is approaching 10,000 packs, so decided to go in for a 20 (+1 free) pack batch:

Cost of batch = 47,500 (20 +1 Orbs packs) --> Total value of all cards in batch = 24,360 DEC. Higher value cards in batch:

"Armorsmith" (Gold - Level 4 - $1.20 USD 1,500 DEC)
"Shilvershield Bard" (Gold - Level 3 - $4.46 SD - 6,000 DEC) -> 6,210 DEC
"Enchanted Defender" (Gold - 1,500 burned)
"Undead Archer" (Gold - Level 3 - $4.55 USD - 6,000 DEC) - 6,780 DEC

Notes: Since I basically NEVER use my life deck cards, unless it is the only option in a battle (specifically tournament battles), AND since even if I DO use life cards over time I have found that I rarely feel the need to use the "Silvershield Bart" (Gold) card, I decided to burn the Level 7 of this gold card (which I have accumulated from the several Orbs batches I have purchased over the past year) in order to buy up the remaining three "Halfling Alchemist" (Gold) card. I got 102,000 DEC for the burn, and sold another non-gold reward card (which I have the gold equivalent of) to buy up the three remaining "Halfling Alchemist", which I have now maxed out. And considering that the very limited supply of this "gold promo" card is now at 205 (at time of writing this sentence) I am thinking about possibly buying up a few more individual cards of this one to see if I can flip them over the next few months. Before that, though, I plan to buy up the remaining 18 cards to level-up my "Malric Inferno" ("fire" Beta summoner) to Level 7, so that I can begin using the "Halfling Alchemist" at the max level, which has "+2" range attack power. Once I am able to ACTUALLY USE the maxed out alchemist card I can make a proper decision about whether or not to buy additional individual cards to flip. I will be using the 142 Hive weekly power-down payouts to fund this strategy.

Whew! These posts are growing dense - but that's okay. Take what resonates with you,and leave the rest. I hope you find some/any of these tips useful in increasing your understanding and/or skill level in the SteemMonsters (Splinterlands) and/or Drug Wars, and/or "Prospectors, and/or any other game(s) - and the " blockchain gaming " industry as whole - which I end up exploring as this series evolves. More JUICY tips to come with each weekly update, as I dig deeper into this whole REVOLUTIONARY PHENOMENON, and become more experienced and successful in the game(s).

See you on the battlefield...

Perhaps would be more easy you to publish on daily basic. And now that I have read almost all of the post, I do not know why I did it. Too long, if you know what I mean.
Cheers!

That;s why CLEARLY state following in ( 5 ) :

"It occurred to me that this "diary" section is JUST THAT - a highly detailed record of my daily activity in the game, with some JUICY "play-by-play" analysis notes, and commentary, on what works, what doesn't, and some suggestions for further tweaking and experimentation. So, with this in mind, I hope some/any of you will enjoy this information. If not, you are under no pressure to read it fully, and are free to SKIM, or even IGNORE, any parts, or ALL parts, completely - at your discretion."

You would be better off to just read the first FOUR (4) sections of each weekly post. It would take too much time/energy to make a daily post.

:reply:
Now it hit me after I saw your reply. I clearly missed the point. Sorry for that, and all in all good job.
:fact:
Why did I read all? The title saying about strategy tips attracted me, then I got interested with some numbers you have put in here after section (5) (numbers always attract me too, but only for the first time), and then in the end I forgot about your point which is in section (5) for which I was not fully focused.
:thought:
Since this is about me, it could be meaningful for other readers too. Perhaps some big headings that would separate big parts of the post would be helpful to me not get strayed after reading all. And also the first paragraph to be used as a short summarizing of all stuff in the post. I think I am aiming at that a reader like me is the most focused at the very beginning of longer work. For example if stuff in your reply is important, then why not put it at the beginning.
Cheers!

Yes, glad you could see that I made a serious effort to warn the reader that section ( 5 ) of each post is a highly detailed log of my activity, which should only be read fully if one is so inclined. But you make some good points for some additional ways to make the reading more manageable. I will consider your points as I work on the new post this week, and see if I can implement your idea(s), or ideas which are similar in function. Thanks!
