Hi everyone!

This report is for the season that ended 13ish days ago. I want to get it in the books before the current season ends.

So personally I don't love the concern the community has for the price of assets (DEC, SPS, cards, etc) and then the solutions like the team has like the DEC-battery.

I think it's important to accept that things are just down (prices, enthusiasm, etc) during down cycles... but that's because you can't have the highs without the lows. Personally I'd love the team to not worry about the economy of it all and focus on making the most fun experience they can.

I don't hate the idea of the DEC-battery or other similar solutions (DAO purchasing DEC or SPS, etc) but they all seem like an unnecessary distraction. We're all mostly confident that crypto isn't dying... and that at some point there will be a lot of money sloshing around the industry again and prices of assets will rise. If Splinterlands is an amazing game that is easy for newbies to understand and get involved in (without needing to understand what a DEC-B is) then it's assets should rise too.

Super interesting seeing the Community Proposals in action already. I'm a little nervous about this... but I imagine some of the big investors in Splinterlands also have a lot of Hive stake too.

So, ah, my power was out for like 4 or 5 days right near when the season was ending... so I didn't get to play the last few days... which is usually when I make up the most ground.

In Season 13 I played 223 games and got to 3303 - Diamond II. This season was 149 and 3021 - Diamond III. Big difference, and it's made this current season that much harder to climb the league.

I do like that you go down the leagues depending on where you finish the season, but man, it can be brutal to recover if you have one or two bad seasons. Especially since playing at lower leagues is really quite different. You end up using whole different decks in the different leagues (which is amazing, incredible design and makes mastery awesomely challenging) so you need a bit of dedication to reverse a downward trend.

It sounds crazy, but I might have been luckier and done better with my rewards this season despite playing nearly half the number of games.

For Season 13, my Total Ranked Play Earnings were:

🟣 380 DEC
🟡 10850 CREDITS
⭐ 557.586 SPS

I seem to have gotten really lucky with the end of season chests scoring 2 CL packs, a Legendary and a bunch of SPS that seems disproportionately lucky. Merry Christmas to me!

It must have been a slightly longer season than Season 13 because all of these values above are up. I know there was a brawl I didn't participate in this season and that's the only one that isn't quite a bit higher.

At the moment I'm currently staking all SPS I get. I'm not keeping any liquid for anything.
I'm making far less DEC than I was (like everyone I assume) so I'm not adding it into the LPs.... and don't intend to withdraw any from the LPs for the DEC-B thing... but I have been trying to max out some reward cards to make them a little more competitive. I was just growing my reward cards as I collected them, but I'm not at all up to date on the whole Soulbound Reward card thing and what that'll mean for the current reward cards, so I thought it best not to sleep on the ones I need.

I'm still very much enjoying playing Splinterlands. Immortalis has totally reinvigorated my play style... which is weird because I didn't think much about him in my first couple of games. Once I came up against a heavily-armoured deck, oh wow, amazing.

I'm very excited with that 2023 will bring Splinterlands. I'm not sure I'll be investing in Rebellion too much, but I am really excited to see how it, and Land shakes up the game.

I totally agree with what you said about the use of different cards in different leagues. I remember doing well in the Silver league but struggling in Bronze after the end of season. The variation in rulesets also keeps the game fun and challenging.

I also do think that the developers are trying too hard and doing too much with regards to the economy. I just hope it doesn't end up with an economy that's hard to navigate, especially for newbies.

Yeah, even since this post there have been a number of things the developers have proposed to adjust the economy. I understand the problem, they have 6,407,000,000 DEC out there, and they're only burning 20,000,000 each week - so it'll take a long time, or a lot of newbies coming in to burn that DEC... but, if they make it too complex then no new people will join further exacerbating the problem.

The other problem is simply that... Splinterlands is very much a luxury expense and those are the first things to be cut in economic downturns.

I don't mind things being cheap at the moment, gives me chance to try and make up some ground. I have added lots of new and different cards and an really enjoying trying out new strategies. Do you have any tips for a low level silverIII player joining a guild? suppose I just looks for a low level English guild

Honestly, I think it's really important to have these cheap bear-market moments, because that's how market cycles work, but it also accidentally rewards the players that stick it through the downturn and then realise 2 years later that the cards they picked up for 5 cents are worth $1... But yes, it also makes the game way more accessible if you can build a collection of decently performing cards for a couple of dollars.

Hey @bearone! Are you still in an Aussie Splinterlands guild? Would you have space to @new.things to join in?

HIVE is fighting to stay above $0.30, who knows a bull run might not be that far away. If Splinterlands and company can manage to introduce card stacking on land while booster packs are sold out I believe it will create a Splinterlands bull run regardless of what any other market is doing.

!PIZZA

It's true.... especially with so many green candles the last couple of days... but my guts says that a bull run is unlikely to hit for 8 to 18 months yet. There's a lot of weird macroeconomic things at play (interest rates, supply chain, etc) so I don't think lots of people around the world will have much disposable income for crypto anytime soon. I'd be thrilled to be wrong though.

Exactly! I'd much rather the focus be on fleshing out Land instead of playing with confusing DEC-B concepts, etc. I'm both excited and nervous to attach monsters to land... I'm going to have to make some tough decisions on which cards I'm willing to stop playing with. I'm so curious to how Land and the magic items affect the game...

That inmortalis card is really good, i have rented it and when i get a lot of mana battle i use it and it is really effective.

I think splinterlands team is doing great job not letting the prices going down in this bear market.

What are your thoughts around LAND in splinterlands?

I bought a cheap plot and well I hope I can do something with it in the future, I am keen on buying a rare plot as well for around 150 usd. But im sceptical

I've only got a few plots but I'm really excited about what Land will do for the entire Splinterlands ecosystem. Obviously it will increase the need for cards and DEC, which will be great. On the other side, I am worried that the magic items and spells that Land produces could potentially break the game. We're all surging forward with Land without really knowing exactly what we'll be crafting.

That said... if those spells/items are mainly used for new PVP adventures (Boss fights, etc) that could be super cool.

Overall I'm pretty excited with the direction the game is going in.
