The Pochettino Sack Was Always Coming

in #sports5 years ago

I really hope that the headline is not misleading...lol

So, it is no longer news that Premier League side and last season's UEFA Champions League finalist, Tottenham Hotspurs have finally parted ways with their manager, Mauricio Pochettino, after a string of poor results and performances this season which currently leaves the North London side in 14th place on the Premier League log, 8 points adrift of safety and 11 points behind the 4th placed team.

Just barely a year ago, Tottneham were seen as a revelation, not because they were winning titles but because, despite their financial situations and lack of a single summer signing in the summer of 2018, they went ahead to finish in the top four in the league and also a place in the final of the Champions League, where they lost to Liverpool.

It has also been reported that Club chairman, Daniel Levi had advised Pochettino to resign a few months ago which the Argentine refused to yield to. Fast forward now, he has finally been axed and the club will pay both him and his assistants off.

MY OPINION

While I have also been quite displeased with Tottenham's performance this season, despite being an Arsenal fan, I just feel it's quite a premature decision to fire the manager who made waves even with a very slim squad.

What I would have expected was the backing of the board since they just moved to a new home and it is a lot of financial implications, which means they have little to throw about in the transfer market. Allowing him to steer the ship till the end of the season would have been the littlest things they could do to show appreciation for what he had done over the past few years, especially last season.

Inasmuch we understand they are also out ton make money and win laurels, we all would agree that this current Tottenham setup (their board inclusive) is not one that we can say is ready to win a title.

I hope they can still salvage something out of this season. Obviously, the top 4 is out of it and I wish Pochettino all the best.

On their choice of Jose Mourinho as his replacement, I hope I can find time soonest in another article to talk about that.

I am not sure Jose is a perfect fit for getting out of trouble, singing him till the end of the season. I will be a tough job for him. PS. Use #sportstalk tag to grab a few extra SPORTS tokens

Thanks @ritxi Would note that in subsequent posts. Cheers
