Argentina vs Israel suspended

This was all over the news yesterday, such a controversial match a friendly between Argentina vs Israel. It was widely protested by many Muslims worldwide especially the Palestinians. The greatest football world in the world was repeatedly pleaded to not play against the Israel team. These protests were because of the mistreatment and straight shooting of Israeli snipers killing men, women and children who are protesting on the Gaza strip. Just recently a young girl who was a paramedic and saving lives was shot dead and Palestinian footballers were shot on the leg so they couldn't play the beautiful game.

At first the Argentinians were hesitant and their foreign minister stated that the Palestinians should not be upset with the match because Argentina recognizes Palestine as a separate state. Suddenly news broke leaving everyone shocked. The GOAT Messi had stepped up taking his responsibility as the brand ambassador of the UNICEF. The losses were 1.3 Million and Messi has covered all the losses to his country. Messi and Mascherano were the two main players to oppose the match and had talks with their representatives and persuaded them to cancel the match.

Messi: " I personally asked the Argentine Football Federation to cancel the match against Israel. I am against violence. I believe in a peaceful world."
Also Messi: " As a UNICEF ambassador, I cannot play against people who kill innocent Palestinian children. We had to cancel the game because we are humans before footballers."

Way to go Messi ! GOAT

This has backfired against the Israeli supporters who are angry against Messi and the Argentinian team. On the contrary the Palestinians are celebrating and have a morale support that the world is listening to their protest and are with them. This shows that sports has an important role in politics and we should first consider ourselves humanitarians and then anything else.

Sort:

I understand the whole issue and their suffering . But one cannot judge a thousand because of the act of one wicked sniper . How many times have their been bomb blast of a citizen in another country , yes the country takes responsibility for it even though it's not their fault. I feel football matches are set up to improve unity and peace. My opinion though

I was wondering what all the hype was about. I just wish that the people who want to play sport were not denied their passion, including the spectators who just wanted to experience that once in a life time opportunity. It reminds me of the springboks playing against the All blacks and the people protested against the game. In both cases the politics ruined it for the sports people and the fans. I guess if you gotta make a statement you have to hit where it hurts. Tricky one, because Israel also has a side to the story.

Yeah one has to keep in mind the passion of the people but in my opinion this was more of a humanitarian aspect, in the past few months during the Gaza strikes several unarmed Palestinians have been shot by Israeli snipers and they have no remorse these people are children and women. That is why at the current situation it was a good decision by the players not to play while blood is shed in the outskirts.

I read the news, but I had a hard time finding out the real reason for the suspension of the match. Thanks for clarifying!

Everyone have words to bring his/her point home although the palenstine mighty been on the pathetic side of the story making too hard to see who is at the wrong side.....as for me, if the cancellation of the match brings peace to them, they have it...but my confusion here is.... What is happening to the world?

It's just so confusing in the west we are lauding about the globalization of the world and on the contrary these borders just keep wars happening and the war industry flourishes making tons of money.

Thats just the truth, we are fooled always,

I hate it when politics interfere with real lives. But then, in this case politics have already interfered with many real lives. I'm glad that they've put their action where their mouth is, but saddened that it's got into the way of just being sportsmen together. The Israeli team is unlikely to be responsible for any of the bad things their government does.

Of course the Israeli team has nothing to do with it but the significance of having a match in the capital Jerusalem while on the other side the army is killing innocent people is just too serious. That couldn't be ignored and is a good step to show the world that we are against this brutality.

Sports and politics should be totally separate entities. The Israeli team who trained and worked really hard to be part of their elite football team, but their match was cancelled because politics came into picture. I do not disregard what happened to the lives of millions of people who died , but in no way the Israeli team had something to do with this. There is also a possibility that they don't support the war and the killings as well. There are people who are constantly praying for peace and comfort of everyone especially in those war-torn places. There is Hope.
