Badminton - The world second most played sport

in #sports7 years ago (edited)

As Sportspodium is a mutli-sporting discipline, and will cater for all sports in due time and we have already covered Soccer statistics, we believe it is only fair to cover the sport of Badminton second, as it is the second most played sport in the world.

The second! I didn't know it..

Me neither until last week :) Thanks for the comment @greensmile.

With u on that one lol

Definitely would not have expected it to be second. I'm a huge fan of playing the game and actually took a class on it in high-school (I won the class tournament #humblebrag). So much fun to play and can be great competitively or in a more recreational sense.

DAmn no one from my place have been at Olympics .

But it's amazing sport, like we see many people around the world love that :)

Where are you from? Maybe you should enter the next Olympics, as you will probably get in the team in your country if nobody is playing :) Hae you seen the movie Cool Runnings of the guys from Jamaica who entered the Bob Sleigh team ?

Latvia, but we do have badminton players. :) Actually i played badminton before a little time, but is always fun to play. :)
We here to win not to just take a part, as they used to say.
I know story about Jamaica team, it was great ha ha
we have already amazing two bobsleigh teams here :)

I would've never thought badminton was so popular among so many sports ans so many countries. I'm from Trinidad & Tobago, the popular sports in my country are soccer, cricket and track & field. I noticed someone from my country represented us at the 1996 Olympics which was our only ever Olympic appearance in that sport, that's cool. Thanks for providing the data and enlightening us about the popularity of the sport.

No body understand the pain of a Cork...

Whahaha great comment.

Very well written post! As an avid player, I can say that badminton deserves to much more recognition. So much fun and one of the most tiring sports out there!

Love this post, I use to play badminton for many years :0) a great sport. Interesting reading. Thx for sharing

It is a great pleasure @saffisara :)

Are you sure that this is really the second most played sport? I the second one is table tennis.

Hi @steemfluencer, I have researched quite a lot on the internet and most sites indicate that Table Tennis is only number 8 most played and also the 8th most watched Olympic Sport. There is no one site or federation source which clearly stand out. I worked from various sources. The bottom line is that both Table Tennis and Badminton is in the top 10. Apparently Volleyball is number 3 :)

Thanks for the comment.

Hey, that's pretty awesome. I wasn't aware it's N8. I'm impressed by the time you invest for researching your facts.

Wow, i didn't know it was second to soccer. In my country it isn't a very popular sport.

I also did not know until last week :) So we learn new things every day. Thanks for the comment @thedevilape

The second most played? In what aspect? Why are there no figures on how many people actually play? Im having a hard time to believe...for every 22 people, you need just 1 football. For those same people, you would need 11 shuttles and 22 rackets...thats why i just cant believe it

Hi @thephotoguide, apologies I did not add the usual disclaimer which I normally add. I have researched quite a lot on the internet and most sites indicate that Badminton is the second most played sport as well as the second most watched Olympic sport. It is difficult to find final number. If w bear in mind that it is extensively played in India, Asia and more specifically China, it might be why. Thanks for the comment :)

very nice images, i like

Thanks for the comment :)

Thank you for the comment @illithas

In my country it's very uncommon, thanks for the info! (Im from Mexico)

Thanks @briantec01. I see that Mexico had a tiny bit of representation at the Olympics since 2008. Maybe you should enter and become an Olympian :)

I love that you are giving some much needed exposure to badmiton! Keep on so people can appreciate less popular athletes who works just as hard as popular tennis athletes. How about squash next ??

Hi @janus27 thanks for a great comment. I will definitely consider squash as I love playing it. Do you play as well? Thanks for the comment and followed.

@sportspodium - I love badminton. I play for fitness. My wife plays Masters (veterans) tournaments and my son is an accomplished player as well. I used to play with the group in TUKS university. Nice to see your post. It will help bring awareness about this great sport. Good to see the picture of P.V. Sindhu figure in this post. Upvoted.

Update on my end is that I am doing a 'Photospeak' series with my memories from Africa - with just a photo with minimal words - Letting the picture speak for itself mostly. I request you to check Photospeak #1: Man vs. Nature and Photospeak #2: African landscape when you have time and provide your comments. Thanks

This is cool. I haven't played badminton in years! I didn't know that pro-badminton was so popular. I'd like to watch a badminton tournament.

Great post my man!
SIdenote, I'm cleaning up who I'm following and limiting it to those creating adult social sports leagues material (darts, pool, bocce, disc golf, stuff like what this post is about). And I have seen a couple of your posts which fall into these categories... Not concerned with what level anybody is, just how good the material is... Not fishing for creators with large followings, just columnists with readers who are interested in THIS STUFF...
I'm resteeming these creators and I just added you.I'm not asking for a follow you/follow me. I'm only interested in following/followers who are actually engaged in this subject and these sports. Articles/Posts on how-to practice, to tournament reporting, to playing and everything in between... These are the posts I'll resteem.
If you get the chance, check out some of my stuff @swansed . If you like it, consider maybe doing the same thing. As a group, we can resteem each others content, and slowly grow an audience with actual interest in what we put out instead of the random 'follow for follow' crowd which won't give any of our future articles a second glance...(let's be honest, that's where the frustration comes in)

Look it's a bitch getting noticed here unless you are posting general content or fluff. Let's build momentum with these niche sports and find the audience we came here to find!

Also, looking to do some Facebook and reddit recruiting campaigns in their niche groups to pull in some new eyes from other social media outlets. There's a chance we could try this as a group also and bring in some new eyes to look at what we are cooking up....
The more contributors we bring in, the louder our voices...
If you know of any other contributors who may be interested, please pass the word!
Regards

I do not agree with this opinion. The top 5 are soccor, basketball, tennis, golf and F1.

WOW Badmington .... that is a surprise. I presume this is not taking into account runners that does not compete in terms of overall participation. Surely that is far larger than Badminton? Fascinating and learnt something today.

That's INSANE! I would of never thought Badminton would be the #2 played sport. Thanks for sharing with the community this was very interesting.

It is an amazing sport, but not all that big in SA. Enjoyed you great article. Please follow me.

The Third! Korea is one of the strongest Badminton team in the world with other Asian Countries. I am playing badminton for over 10 years since my high school, and I think it is the best sport for short time work out because many of quick movement.
