Well, I made the freshmen baseball team at my school! This picture is about a year and a half outdated, but that is fine.
So far, it has been an adventure. The mood of the practices is very different from summer baseball. Some of the sophomores were messing around today and the coach consequently made everyone do what he called, “Burpies ‘till death.” Basically, you start by doing 5 burpees in one minute, then add one burpee until you get to 15. It wasted 10 minutes of practice, and everyone on the team had practically lost the ability to run or lift their arms. For those of you who don’t know what a burpee is, you start standing up, then you drop down, do a push up, then stand up and jump. You may not think they are hard, but once you do a couple, you really begin to feel it, let alone 110.
I am also not, by any means, the greatest baseball player in the area. I will most likely be warming the benches most games. The stuff needed to be on the team, also, costs a ridiculous amount of money. We had to buy a hat, pants, and a practice jersey, which totaled around $90. Thank goodness we didn’t have to buy our own jerseys. Varsity has to buy those as well. Then, when you consider the cost for cleats, a glove, batting gloves, and a bat, that is another $300+.
Hopefully, despite these many “hardships”, I will have a great season. We will just have to wait and see, though.
