First stack water, fuel, ammunition and weapons (both hot and cold) and food with long shelf life like canned foods and dried foods and powders and creams.
Things like canned tuna, tomatoes, corn, and milk, coffee and cocoa powders.
Some types of cheese have long shelf life too, in fact most cheeses do.
Only if you feel like you are left with excess amount of cash stack a little precious metals, because in a doomsday/SHTF scenario you will need them less than food and water, and therefore food and water will be much more expensive than gold and silver which may become worthless.
To me, gold and silver seem like a financial bet more than a form of prepping.
There are so many things that will help you more than gold, platinum and silver, which have value only as long as the financial system functions.
Remember that mining increases the existing amount of precious metals, and if their prices are high enough, recycling joins too.

I have been very active on steemit ever since I joined it a little over a year ago.
I did increase my level of activity with the tide of the bidbots, and the abundance of them.
Only a minority of them are worth the payments.

do you really thing that stacking up may be necessary within next 2-3 years?
It is always necessary for the simple reason of buy a lot when price is low, and buy none to the least you need when the price is high.
You probably mean necessary in the sense of emergency.
Then my answer is no, but I might be proven wrong.
