While I was over at KBK with the good people of Krakow, I was introduced to many of the home-built activities that all the members of KBK love. One of the fun creations by @hallmann is @briszkot. It is a "geneva convention" twist on a card game. While I was still at Krakow, I both learned the game and thoroughly enjoyed it. Dawid and I played the game quite a bit, and he showed me the in-house championships they have, and I also got the chance to play it with Aga, Kamil, and Marcin.
As a parting gift, Dawid gave me a pack of cards to take with me to the Netherlands. We did jokingly talk about how it could someday become an internationally loved game and could potentially become a dApp on HIVE through which the players could be incentivized. I really like this game and the 2v2s were my favorite.
I love the designs on the cards especially the "city" cards which are designed and named after cities in Poland. Briszkot is a challenging game and in that sense is loads of fun to play. In this game, the civilians are given the top priority (just like in the Geneva conventions). Check out @briszkot to learn more about this game.
Well, so here I am. In the Netherlands. Today was a better day than the rest since I did get some news about my legal status procedure. I finally have been given an appointment date and I can be a little relieved. And what better occasion than this to celebrate with a game of Briszkot?
Joining me, and also the first person to learn and play this game in the Netherlands is none other than @priyanarc. We played a lot. Probably 10 to 15 matches. She picked the game up quickly and she plays pretty well, too!
I created a table, similar to one Dawid showed me over at KBK, as a guide. A 32 cards game with 4 sets each consisting of a Goddess, King, Warrior, Civilian, and 4 City cards. In the table, you can see the chain of power and the points each card carries.
The first game we played was with "open faces". It is a tutorial kinda round. We show our cards and that way Pri could learn while playing. She is good at the game. It didn't take her more than the first game to understand and come up with strategies herself. But after the first match, no more open faces. It was serious gameplay. Strictly.
We played 8 rounds, which as I remember, is the "competitive" style of playing the game. The player with more than 400 points after the end of the 8 games is crowned the winner. As you can see in the small scoreboard, she did get me good in the first few rounds before I could push myself towards a small win. Putting down the scores on the paper reminded me I was acting like an asparagus and not human. Many won't get this, but these are famous words from Aga to Dawid. Might be an inside joke but still makes me chuckle.
The final score after 8 matches: @priyanarc with an impressive 376 and blind-spot with 424.
After this, we played many more matches. The match after the 8 rounds ended with a 50-50 split. The matches after that, we didn't keep track of points but it was alternating results. She won some and I won some.
I want to thank Dawid and the good people of KBK for this gift. I can confidently say that it is a huge mood booster and a great way for us both to relax. It may come off as just a card game, but it is so much more than that. It is a token of friendship, a piece of creative art in the form of a game, a medium of relaxation, and of course a reason to smile.
Briszkot is now officially played in more than one country! Maybe someday we can have an international tournament.
My mindset has been predominantly negative for a long time now. It roots from the current situation in Ukraine, my troubles with personal life issues, the hardships I see among refugees likfe myself around me, and more. I pretty much feel like doing nothing, I don't feel like going out, I don't have the privilege to spend money, and socializing feels mentally taxing, but this card game was a breath of fresh air. Smiling, laughing, playing...it is a step closer to a "normal life".

I am really glad that you like briszkot. I hope we will play together in Ukraine someday. BTW, have you noticed that you have already visited almost all cities with hearts? ;) (Warszawa, Kraków, Katowice... only Gdańsk is not visited)
