Rejoice Small Fish, It's Your Time.

Rejoice, Planktons and Minnows Alike

Unless you've been living under a Steem rock of some kind, you would have noticed the epic downvoting happening on Steem. A lot of it is vengeful and personal, but I think it is a net positive. If you're a small fish in this pond, you should be happy, and here's why.

1. Whales are downvoting each other.

Yes some smaller accounts are getting downvoted, that's inevitable, but the vast majority of the downvoting is happening to larger accounts with higher SP. It means if you play your cards right, and don't do anything dumb like plagiarise or spam the platform, then you can be totally exempt from the downvoting. This also means there's a lot of Steem being returned to the reward pool for smaller accounts to benefit from.

2. Whale self-voting is reduced.

The 50/50 paradigm has encouraged some larger SP holders to make the move from self-upvoting, to seeking out content to upvote manually. Some of said larger stake holders have stopped posting entirely, which means there's a larger pot for author rewards now.

3. Smaller accounts are getting on trending.

Now more than ever, I have noticed smaller accounts getting on the trending page organically. If you're an awesome content creator, now is your time to shine and get some of that Steem finally. It may well be your last chance at earning Steem in any significant amount. Once the dust settles on the flag wars and everything becomes normalised, the larger accounts are going to find other ways of getting back in the reward pool game :)

4. Blogging is back baby!

For a while, blogging was looking dead on here. Video content and games were running away with all the money. Now, as it happens, blogging appears to be back! So, if you can write a great copy, it's probably time to get back in the game and make some more of that Steem before things change again.

5. Our immaturity is on your side.

The thing is, if those with the larger accounts were a little more mature about this, and realised that a rising tide lifts all boats, then actually the larger SP holders would already be benefitting more from this new paradigm. However, because of a mixture of greed and immaturity, this isn't the case. Retaliatory flagging means a lot of potential revenue is returned to the pool to be picked up by relatively incognito accounts producing good content.

If you have a smaller account, this is your time to churn out some good stuff. We currently need to justify our upvotes to avoid counter votes from disagreeing parties. Be the one to put that quality content forward, and get that monaaaayyy!

Well said. What good is stacking steem if it keeps going down in price. The more we spread it out, the more people are energised to power it up and even purchase more.

Indeed. The time is coming though, I believe. There will be a kind of "panic" buying that I think will spark the reverse when people realise the opportunity.

Totally agree with everything you say. I've noticed the blogging rewards rising, and it's so frustrating for me as there are so many outside demands on my time just now, it's hard to get anything done, never mind blogging!
If you want to make an impact on Steemit, now is the time.

This is your time :)

Completely agree with as you said here. This is a time for make great contents and earn rewards. Positive changes make good ability to bring high value. Recently I've seen made more blog posts from steem users also some low reputation users came to trending page. Those days I saw only large SP holders came to trending page. But now it's changing. Another reason as you said large SP holders stopped self vote to their posts and distributing rewards to others. That's positive change to steem blockchain and content creators. I already stated to make good contents here.

Awesome. And also don't forget to have fun and enjoy what you're doing. That's the most important thing.

Yeah I already understood.

From the beginning, I loved the changes and now I can see it clear what is happening.
Good days are coming! :)

I don't mind if some of my lost rewards go to helping out the little guys. I will just keep dealing with the Steem leeches who try to take rewards without earning them. This is all how it was intended to work and it seems to do so better now.

Have really enjoyed this piece
