[Steem talk] Sidechain Explorer

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Since there's a demand of wanting to see more of steem-engine, but in a basic and layman way, so here I am starting to bring you more of sidechain crypto laid back version of fund management. Stay with me, who knows you may take home some lazy method and managing other tokens.

Steem Block Explorer

Just before I go further, we all know we have SteemD webpage for our convenient to track all of our Steem Blockchain transactions from and through our wallet. If you have not seen one, time to pick this up at https://steemblockexplorer.com/@username . Change the username to your name, and you will be able to effectively see some detail of your account.

I know you have seen this before, so what if you have a complain, the amount of Steem you sent to people, or the amount is big enough to make you start shouting at people. Just before you do that, you may wanna double confirm if your transaction went through from the block explorer.

This one for example, when you send registered mail to other people, you do retain a copy of the receipt that indicate where did you sent the parcel to. It's not difference in Blockchain, uses same method to document each and every transactions. The only difference is, its all automated in the encrypted digital currency world, whilst you need to manually deliver and sign a paper document when sending a registered mail. To see detail of this transaction, kindly proceed to the upper right hand side, and click on the unique transaction code.

Apparently, the block explorer from @penguinpablo doesn't show the detail transaction, but fear not, there is always back up. Since the permalink is the same, all we need to do is change the URL name from steemblockexplorer.com to steemd.com and the result will show as below:

This shows how much I received a 0.001steem worth of transaction from @minnowbooster stating that my request of power leasing has been processed and hopefully someone will fill my request.

Why need to know

"Dave! Aren't we supposed to learn Steem-engine? Why are we studying STEEM instead?" Ok, enough of all that. First thing first, you need to understand what is STEEM BLOCKCHAIN and the side chain of STEEM-ENGINE. Both of these chain work similarly, but they're not from the same blockchain. So, the transaction within Steem-engine, you coulnd't see it in Steem Block Explorer. But, again, why do you need to know or differentiate them? For one simple reason, they uses different cryptocurrencies and different wallet. The only medium that connecting them both is PRIVEX Exchange that charges 1%.

Ok look, it's simple. There's two banks.

Left bank

  1. Bank on the left called Steem Engine.
  2. The base currency is STEEMP
  3. They can internally trade with different currencies, including LEO, PAL, DBLOG, SPORTS, and many more.
  4. But you can't withdraw other currencies through this bank. You have some choices like BTS, BTC, ETH and majority of us would preferred STEEM because we have a wallet here and we can see the transaction in real time.
  5. Left bank has a transaction history(Steem Engine Block Explorer) allowing user to view, to check where is their money.

Right bank

  1. Bank on the right called Steem.
  2. The base currency is STEEM.
  3. You can buy LEO, PAL, DBLOG, SPORTS, but not directly. You'll to open an account with left bank, deposit your STEEM to left bank and convert them to STEEMP, fee involved is 1% of total transaction.
  4. Steem can be traded with any other currencies from other crypto exchange, as long as the exchange support that currencies you wanted to trade with. But, since those LEO, PAL, DBLOG, SPORTS currencies only available inside left bank, then you're running out of luck. That's the only place you can buy.
  5. Right bank has their own transaction history allowing user to view, to check where is their money.

Steem Engine Block Explorer(SEBE)

Here is the Steem Engine side of the transaction history you should aware of. All steem engine activities are recorded here. If you have any dispute or you promised someone to send some token to them and they didn't receive, this is the best place to find out whether you're stupid enough to sent those token to a different address. In order to access Steem Engine Block Exlorer, let's just call it SEBE from now on. All you need to do is open your browser, put in this link, https://steem-engine.rocks/@username and replace the username with your account name, you'll be able to view all your transactions from here. Let's take yesterday's 1STEEMP withdrawal as example.

Similarly to the other banks, but from here on, STEEM ENGINE involved with more procedure, as all these tokens are customized token. They do not connect directly with the externals, so it has to go through a middleman. Click on the transaction code on the right side, and you'll see someo magic.

I don't know whether Privex is the "physical" dealer, or @steem-peg is the one who charged my 1% transaction fee, but from the SEBE shows, my STEEMP does goes to @steem-peg, and @steem-peg is the one who sent me back my STEEM directly to my STEEM wallet. So, does it mean Privex is Steem-Peg?

That will be all for today, before you get familiar with other shit, make sure you remember, block explorer is the ultimate weapon when you're going to find things, dig things. Sometimes even if you know someone made a post, later regreting and modify the post, you can still go to the block explorer and dig it back out. Regardless of which version, how many layer of editing the author does, blockchain is a blockchain, nothing can be erase from the chain! Your transaction is safe, and are certain. The only uncertain is, when you put in a wrong address which has a recipient. What I'm trying to say, if you key in a wrong address, the most is your transaction didn't reach it's destination and able to return back to your wallet. However, after investigation from the blockexplorer, if indeed the transaction go through to an address that user wrongl input, then it's too bad. Blockchain is just way too efficient.

Sort:

privex is responsible for external deposits-withdrawals, steem-steemp is handled by steem-engine

Thanks for confirming.

Correct :) (Privex CEO here.)

STEEM <-> STEEMP is handled directly by the SteemEngine team - @aggroed @yabapmatt @harpagon

Everything else, e.g. EOS, TELOS, BTC, LTC, DOGE etc. is @privex's responsibility, using our open source https://github.com/Privex/cryptotoken-converter

Note that even on the coins we're responsible for, we don't take the entire 1% fee, the gateway is operated in collaboration with SteemEngine, we only get a small portion of that 1% fee.

Thanks for popping by.
