It's funny how sometimes, a random comment can be the subject of your next blog. And to be more precise this is the comment I am referring to -part of it- because the rest of the discussion was kinda funny...

Not many people realize the power of this blockchain and the impact it already have on peoples lives. And no, I ain't talking about people living in Switzerland. But those living in countries where hope... seems lost.

Yesterday, in this post I included a few screenshots from some random accounts whose owners keep sending to the exchanges almost all of their liquid rewards (sometimes even if it is just 1 Steem) and at the same time their accounts are in a constant powerdown even though they hold something between 500 - 1000 Steem Power.

It might seem absurd to you...and to me too...but would you say the same if you were living in one of the countries displayed below?

One of the best ways to measure the income of a country is by taking a look at the gross national income per capita – also known as the GNI. The GNI per capita is a measure of a nation’s final income for the year divided by the population of the nation. This provides the average income of the citizens of the nation.

Using this data, countries can be divided into several categories. The high-income group has the highest income in the world with a GNI per capita of at least $12,476. The upper-middle-income group has per capita incomes between $4,038 and $12,475. The lower-middle-income nations have a GNI per capita of $1,026 to $4,035. Finally, the low-income countries have a GNI per capital of $1,025 per less.

According to the most recent World Bank data from 2017, Burundi has the lowest GNI per capita of just $280. Another low-income nation is Malawi with a GNI per capital of $320. In third place is Niger, which has a GNI per capita of just $360

Most likely many people living in those countries might not have access to Internet at all. But if a tiny % of them does have access and for some reason had been registered to Steem some time ago and are actually...among us, then would it seem absurd to you if they were just trying to...survive?

Steem is definitely the blockchain of opportunities and also the blockchain of people. Even now, where USD wise, the price keeps dropping like a brick...literally like a brick.

Happening right now so go grab some Steem

Obviously the current price doesn't reflect the progress and the development being made every single day. But take a moment and imagine Steem sitting anywhere above 10$....Ok I know...@soyrosa was way too optimistic, but do you think that the 10$ mark is an unrealistic target?

Can you even imagine the difference your vote...my vote...could make on people's posts?....In peoples lives...?

I am not suggesting that Steem should be treated as a charity institution or anything of the sort. I am just saying that there are endless possibilities...

When I joined Steem I had no clue that this world even existed. Needless to say that I started investing in crypto over the past 21 months, and trust me when I am saying that every single penny that I've invested either in Steem or in other projects, are hard earned money....like 12 - 15 hours a day hard earned FIAT money...

So I have every right to dream big, just like @soyrosa does. Just like many of us around here do but are afraid to admit it...

And I am glad there there are people around here who are working tirelessly towards that direction...to see Steem perform according to its potentials.

Have a great one!

Cheers.

I have thought of it many times, maybe for the most 0.5 or 1$ is nothing but there's people working for less daily.. So having the opportunity to get it through steemit or any other way (Blockchain way) confirms the necessarity to mass adopted, and how important can be (in some cases already is).

Solid points

was way too optimistic,

well not really. I mean don't we all here hope steem will one day be among the top-10 coins ? if it does, it's gonna be way above 10 $. Hopefully, now that steemit sinc seems to have gotten their shit together this doesn't seem far fetched considering the size of our community compared to all other cryptos. All steemit sinc needs is a few good apps and a couple big names joining this place. I think now that are SMTs are finally coming (hopefully) we will have a better idea of what the future holds..

It used to sit in the third place somewhere in time...and the price was nowhere near the 10$ mark...

Considering the fact that they indeed have stopped selling someone would expect the price to go up simce there is no pressure...yet it ain’t happening

I think what we really need is a marketing plan and promotion.

true, and btc was nowhere near the 10k mark. I think it was worth 1k back then ;) Steem at its ath (in dollars, not satoshis) was at #30 in coinmarketcap

I didn't. A lot of trust has been lost all these years. Again, and again and again. It's hard to gain it back.

I think what we really need is a marketing plan and promotion.

Can't disagree with that. Hopefully, when smt's come out the smt developers will partially take care of that part, just like what happens with eth. By promoting their smt for their benefit they will also market steem as they will be interconnected.

Wow! and I was complaining about my country, Venezuela.

Well, I have to complain, I am a university professor and my monthly salary does not reach $ 5 to the official change ... and if I change in the black market it gets worse.

I know that seeing the misfortune of others does not help to console me because of the misfortune, but I see that there are countries that share our misery and yet one tries to survive and get ahead.

That in itself is a testimony of the human spirit of not giving up.

Don't be discouraged my friend. I am sure that things will get better for your country. It might take a while longer but I am sure it will.

I live in Greece...you might have seen the terrible financial situation we are going through over the past decade...

Yeah when people complain about the price of Steem going down I try and explain how much sell pressure this crypto has.

Some of these people are replacing or supplementing there income using Steem. The fact that people are using Steem/Steemit to live off of is huge. Not many other cryptos right now can say they're supporting people's livelihoods as the price of most crypto continues to drop. For long term adoption and use as a currnecy to me this is huge, regardless of what effects it has in the short term.

Speaking my mind actually.

Let alone that those who are here right now, are here for the long haul and price seems to be their last concern. (Myself included))

price seems to be their last concern

Couldnt agree more. Yes I may spend more time if Steem is worth more on the blockchain, but that doesnt mean Im not spending a little time here whenever I get a chance to continue growing my SP regardless of price.
