Hey steemit peeps!!! How's it going?! Sorry I haven't been on in a while I've been really busy with work! So here what I got for you guys and gals today!
On July 23rd 2017, the state of Washington passed a new set of laws that will help people not get distracted while driving. Some of the laws have been around for awhile and some are new to us Washingtonians
- Texting and driving.
So as we all know texting and driving have been against the law for awhile now but let's be honest we all still go on our phones. We either drive with one hand and text with the other or we drive with one knee and text, or we'll talk on the phone and put it down when a cop passeS by, or we'll text while sitting at a stop light. Well the state of Washington updated the law to where you can't have it out at stop lights. The whole purpose of the law so to keep people for getting distracted and to keep our hands free. You may be asking "steele, what about the people that use their phones as a gps" well I've got good news for you! From what I read on the Seattle times website they said they asking as you have it mounted to your dash board and your hand aren't holding the phone in your hand you'll be fine!
- Eating/drinking while driving.
Eating while driving is not against the law, but if you're pulled over for some reason and you're eating or drinking it will be charged as a second offense and it goes on top of what you were originally pulled over for. As long as you're not distracted then you can eat an drive.
The reason these laws are being enforced is because they want people to be safe while driving and to refuse the risk of being a distracted driver. I think the motor biking and biking community had a lot todo with these laws being passed. Which I totally understand the texting and driving, the average text takes 5 seconds to read, and at 55mph that's the length of a football field. So I totally understand why these laws were passed.

Eating and driving is allowed in belgium. But driving and calling someone on the phone isn't :D
