RE: STEEM Is In Our Hands: What Are We Going To Do With It????

in #steem6 years ago

How are we doing with being polite and respectful of the views of others, even if we disagree with them? Are we attacking, slandering, and trolling in an effort to degrade another?

hi T.M. — I haven't been perfect in this area, particularly with spammers or extremely pushy/critical people. I think it's valid to stand up and bring attention to certain behaviors that are unwelcomed by the community or have overstepped boundaries.

I try to keep my interactions focused on behaviors rather than the individual. I avoid name-calling and profanity whenever I can. Sometimes it becomes more personal than it should and I disappoint myself.

I think that by warning spammers not to spam, I'm speaking up for a lot of beleaguered minnows who don't have the energy or confidence to step up. Also, whether I'm ignored or not, I've indirectly encouraged spammers to drop the funny business in favor of adding value.

On another hand, I find that sections of the community need a little comic relief, so I'm trying to give them a laugh at the spammers' expense without hurting and embittering the spammers too badly.

It's a balancing act that's hard to achieve, I'll admit.

Thanks for your input, bare minimum it helps me think twice.

I think much of the behavior you point to is bots...spam bots are common on here.

Also, spamming is something that is known to be frowned upon. We all can simply either ignore them, downvote this, or draw attention like you do.

Either way, I havent seen you go over the edge with it.
