I actually don't think they are confused about censorship but they rather used it as the best scapegoat they could find to justify their abusive behavior.
I'm not sure what you mean by buying non-profitable? Do you mean buying flags? Who sells them?
Of course it is, but these guys care not about honest engagement. They only care about getting as much rewards as they can.

I meant the profitability of buying votes. If they only make about 10% of what the post gets then removing that gets their attention. Flagging generally earns you nothing, but the @steemflagrewards project rewards those who take action. I would do it anyway as I feel it's good for Steem as a whole. I also delegate to a load of people to help them out.

They aren't buying the votes though. They actually own the account which is upvoting them.
That's another type of abuse that needs to be dissuaded. They soon notice of they are making less.
