I went along to this event at London's Olympia after work today. I knew a few Steemians were attending, but I had time to wander around before meeting them. There were a couple of companies I've dealt with through work who I chatted with. It was quite varied with a lot of IOT companies and not so much crypto. I sat in on a talk by a guy from W3C about semantic web, which I was quite into a while ago.
I'm now I a nearby pub for an after party hosted by an exhibitor along with @revisesociology, @redrica, @dougalporteous and @ultravioletmag.
We're flying the flag for #Steem as it was not represented at the show.
It seems you had a good time today with some steemians and I also see some beers on the table. ^_^ Steem on!
It does look like a fun time had by all @silviabeneforti I wish when I had been in the UK @steevc I could have made it to a meetup, but I never did. Next time for sure!
I would hope that more meetups will spring up around the world. It's obviously easier in a big city. If you are over some time I hope we can get together
There were free drinks at the party, but I'd already bought some expensive London beer :)
Im soooo not jealous!
Wow! It looks like you guys are having a great time. That is too bad that there were not more crypto related things happening there. I know that IoT is pretty big right now with everyone wanting to have their homes automated and zero privacy :)
Too easy to hack IoT to put it in my home if you ask me.
Ditto, which is why I own zero of it.
Well, I have some Philips Hue cause they're amazing, but I wouln't have an electronic door or fridge/oven connected to Skynet.... I mean the Internet.
Well nobody of forcing you to have it. People can make compromises on security and privacy versus convenience. We do it all the time online
Yes, until now, IoT is like facial recognition around the world, nobody is forcing you until they put a camera pointing directly at your face.
Technology is forcing you into accepting some of it in your everyday life without asking for permission or giving you the option to decline it's adoption.
It was still interesting to see what was on display. There's more to life than crypto.
Cheers!

Pics a bit blurry 😄🤣
Yeah, I know. Crappy phone and shaky hand.
Shame to have missed out, have fun!
Nice to see you all, as usual! It was a nice experiment, but will definitely be back to our usual setup for next time :)
Looks like you got some good content for your channel. See you next time
If only I wasn't so far away. I'm sure it was a good one.
Nice to see steemians having fun :) That's whats Steem is about, making connections, right?
Let that flag fly high!
