I do not know if the Takeback of the Top20 witness positions is going to succeed, nor do I know what is going to happen if it does. Yet, triumph or fail, this is not only a major landmark event on the Steem blockchain, it could very well be a seminal moment in the history of all blockchain, especially that of the dPOS chains.
Whatever happens, I am glad that I had the opportunity to participate and I am glad that I had the opportunity to participate with so many others that I count as friends, whether we have met or not.

I would like to say that this has been the entire community rallying around to resist the centralization of the Steem blockchain, but that is not the case. Some members of some communities are voting to support a single authority with their stake, which is their choice to use as they see fit. They have cast their vote for the position that they support, and it isn't one of freedom for the community - it is about the maximization of their individual worth. This is the Steem blockchain, and it doesn't easily forget.
In the story of Remember the Titans, a football team came together to put their differences aside and work toward a common goal. In that case, the difference was one of skin color. Today on Steem, there are many differences that are being put aside in order to gather the stake necessary to takeback the blockchain. It is commendable.
There is little doubt in my mind that once the dust settles, the conversations and arguments will begin soon after, but that is besides the point. This event shows that when push comes to shove, most of those who are highly invested in the outcomes of Steem, can work in unison. Perhaps there will even be some knock-on effects that lead Steem into the next phase of its maturity.
Innocence was lost at the point of centralization. Now, if there is a new Hardfork that takes back the chain, fast decisions need to be made to make sure that it is secure for the community, that centralization can't happen again. What exactly that is going to look like is very likely being heavily discussed and plans made right now - I am hoping that there is unemotional sense and maturity in the decision-making to do what is required - without overreaching.
This is an opportunity to put the Steem blockchain and community into the spotlight as an example of what can go right with a large, self-governed and highly diverse group who have a wide range of values, yet still can work together. This is the possibility to show exactly why decentralization is important, and succeed or fail to takeback the Steem blockchain, doesn't fail to highlight this point.
through usage, the Steem blockchain takes on our collective personalities and cultures to build a dynamic and ever-changing profile of us. It becomes us through our contributions, interactions and transactions; and what it is today looks different to what it was in the past and what it will become in the future. It is growing, evolving and maturing into what will be the new breed of digital communities and the new forms of economy and governance.
It records the best of us and the worst of us.
And it always remembers the Steemians.
We are all remembered on Steem.

Vote or Proxy.
We need at least 7 more witnesses in the top 20 to take back Steem and take back our decentralized future. Please vote for the correct witnesses to do so, or proxy me if unsure and your votes will follow mine, which are set for decentralization of Steem and the community it houses.

dPOSS The last 'S' stands for society. It's a new thing. Invented only recently by a group consisting of thousands.
As the new saying goes: There is society in numbers.
There were ten, now there are two. It's unfortunate. You said part of this community is working against this effort? That's unfortunate.
Yes. The SCT community - the downvotes interrupted their circle jerks. They are the ones who were proposing to rollback the EIP - now headed up by slowwalker and a few other Korean whales.
A small community - 3rd largest by payout....
Didn't anyone inform them they're basically voting to never be able to earn?
They're downvoting themselves, but they don't like downvotes?
That's interesting.
They want to go to tron and get their payday from the years of self-voting
Is it that proxy vote then? I'm being vague, but do you know what I mean?
So many media stories about the Steem blockchain get it all wrong, but this latest one by CoinDesk stands out for being cogent:
https://www.coindesk.com/steem-community-mobilizes-popular-vote-in-battle-with-justin-sun
Seems it was written by someone privy.
Here, here.
Who knows how this will play out but seeing people put aside their differences to protect our chain is wonderful to see!
Thanks for getting the word out to vote and for being an integral part of this community and movement to resist centralization.
Pity about one small group of unhappy circlejerkers...
May their chains rest lightly, and may the chain forget they were our chainsmen.
I wonder if it will be remembered who among us voted against the community?
I'm sure somebody will post a list. I'm glad I won't be on it.
I think we can see exactly who stand with the Steem community now....
How about the following fork:
Steem Classic: Steemit.com includes steem, steemit, misterdelegation, etc accounts
NewSteem: all other front-ends, excluding steem, steemit, misterdelegation, etc (the steem in those accounts burned, lower total coin supply, with hopefully a very active community)
Overreaching?
I would rather keep the Steem community whole as one Steem. And if the fork comes, it will be the Tron fork - and they can do what the hell they want with their copy.
Exchanges (except Bittrex) have already shown their allegiance
Not necessarily. It could be very bad publicity for especially binance.
It should be. But for the moment binance has got 31M Steem powered up. While Justin probably promised they be would able to power down very quickly/instantly, currently it looks like it's gonna take 13 weeks to power down entirely.
For as long as the stake is powered up, it's signaling the message that binance is actively involved.
Well said! It's my hope as well that the response to us hopefully successfully taking back the Blockchain won't go into extreme overreaching decisions.
Win or lose, we are in for a rough ride P.C. (post-centralization)
Indeed.. but struggle builds character and perseverance, so I have hope for this community.
Technically, we need 4/20. We currently have 10/20. We should have more.
4/20 to stop a hf. We need to have a hf.
For that we, need 17/20.
yes.
It's quite something to see the rallying, it really is.
...here's a video to help keep the spirits up.

It would seem that The evil empire does not have a fork ready to implement, otherwise wouldn't they have done it?
I went to bed happy last night that we got four back but as the world turns new fighter keep coming. Shame on those who support Sun. Your treachery will be forever written on the chain.
They don't care, as long as they get a payday.
How many reserves do you think Tron has to keep upping the stake? Is there a point at which a price hike would be the outcome and would that matter?
I think it is important to keep voting because, regardless of stake, that is the voice of the community. It's a powerful expression. And I hope we are preparing the next steps which seem to me are the same, regardless of who has the bigger stake.
At the moment, the thing that is holding back the Steem witnesses is... "Steemians" proxy.token - a pact of the Korean community mostly - is voting for the centralization witnesses.
I agree.
Thank You .!!!
Here and staying! They chose the wrong online village.

It is an interesting blockchain - never boring! :D
