How To Use Whaleshares: SteemGigs Contest.

in #steemgigs7 years ago (edited)

There are two ingredients for success on steemit.

1. Creating quality content.

2. Marketing your content.

If you have been writing for a while and hold a sound knowledge about your niche, creating quality content is as easy as pie, but the real deal comes in while marketing your content. Most people lag in marketing and that's why they are less successful than others.

So the answer you must seek in order to become an established author on steemit is "How to market your content!".

I have found a very useful tool which I used in my last post, and it was quite beneficial.

The tool was whaleshares token. And by using it, I was able to push my post up to hot tab and that too among the top 5 hot posts.

As you can see, the 4th one, i.e Why Do We Get Scared! is mine.

So if you want to know more about whaleshares token and how to use it in marketing your content, you can read below.

What is whaleshares token!

Whaleshares is a meta-token designed by @officialfuzzy to summon whales on any post you want.

The vision behind whaleshares token is to give incentives to whales for not powering down, which will boost the steemit economy, as the more steem power we keep in steemit, the stronger steemit becomes.

The incentive is in the form of whaleshare token.

How can you get some whaleshares token?

You can trade them with bitshares on bitshares.org

You can create your bitshares account in 3 easy steps.

First go to https://bitshares.org/, you will land on this page.

Click on try online exchange, and then create new account as shown in the pic.

Now you will be asked to choose the model, I will guide you through account model, but you can choose wallet model too if you like as both of them has their own benefits.

Now go through instructions thoroughly as they are quite important. You have to choose a username, which will be your openledger username too and you can use this username to transact the tokens available on bitshare. Enter the generated password in confirm password and write it down along with saving it in your password manager as it is quite complex and you can't recover your account if you lose the password. So go through this step carefully. Click on the next two icons and then create account.

Now, if you click here, you can buy whaleshares from bitshares. You can either deposit bitshares if you already have or you can click on buy bitshares and a popup window will appear showing you bitcoin address, by sending btc here, you can purchase bitshares and trade them with whaleshares.

You can also get free whaleshares through Steemtrail discord channel free whaleshares or participating in contests of Whaleshares channel.

One of the contest going on is SteemGIG: The Best "How To Use Whaleshares" Tutorial, Wins A Potential 500 Beyondbits i.e Almost $800!!!. Beyondbit is a similar token to whaleshare, the only differenece is @fuzzyvest will upvote your post instead of @officialfuzzy.

How to use whaleshares?

Once you have got whaleshares in your bitshares account, you can use them on any post you want.

First you have to go to http://whaleshares.net/, then you have to paste the url of the post you want to be upvoted and click on the upvote option. Then copy the memo starting with U and the URL of your post and paste the memo while sending the whaleshares to whaleshares account like this. As you can see, I have used 100 whaleshares tokens to see the full effect of whaleshares token.

The result of using 100 whaleshares was quite enhancing as you can see.

So if you think you have written a high quality article and want to get a shoutout by exhibiting it on the hot page, you can use maximum i.e 100 whaleshares or beyondbits on your posts within 30 mins of posting the article. Like I have again tried on this article.

beyondbit_hot

As the hot page is quite dynamic, so it might not stay there for more than a few minutes, so you should be pretty sure about the quality of the content youb are promoting as low quality content will be buried down again and high quality content will make it up to trending page.

If you have tried whaleshares or beyond bits, share your experience with me.

Love the concept and have tried it a few times. It is a little bit expensive though...because the spread on Bitshares to buy Whaleshares is really high. And if you buy too many whaleshares and want to sell some back...you have just lost 50% because the spreads are so high.

Would be nice if there was an established rate for buying/selling whaleshares and not such a crap shoot.

that's a backdrop, but I suppose they are not there for trading but for using on our post.

True...but then why not make it simple to purchase? Having to go bid and watch pricing trends adds another layer of complexity.

well, for stability it takes time, doesn't it. Even the topmost currencies are not stable yet. The process is simple though, send sbd to bitshares.org and buy bts to convert it to whaleshares. It takes same steps as it takes to convert sbd to USD, so not a very big deal and you don't have to do it daily. You can buy it one time.

Agreed...I have had no issue going through those steps and use it often. I'm comparing the complexity to the other paid voting bots. The other bots don't have nearly as much power though...so each has their own strengths/weaknesses.

does it work on old posts aswell?

Not sure...I assume limit is posts 6.5 days or younger.

true.

Can I use steem dollars via wallet to buy whale share or send money/ steem to my open ledger account? and how many worth of upvotes will you get with 100 whaleshare?

yes you can send sbd in the bitshares wallet.

Thanks. Can Beyondbit and whaleshares be used to promote one post? I used 1 beyond bit and later 2 whaleshares in a post and my whaleshare vote didnt show...which one is more profitable?

beyondbits gives you more value per beyondbit, but they cost 1.5 times whaleshares. And yes I have tried it, both of them can be used on same post.

Not sure about direct from Steem. The most traded market for Whaleshares on Bitshares is with BTS. The spread is between 2 and 5 right now (2 to sell, 5 to buy). https://bitshares.org/wallet/#/market/WHALESHARE_BTS

Each whaleshares that you spend gets you a 1% vote. If you spend 5, you still only get 1 vote, but it's worth 5% power.

Thanks for your response. So the only way for us to buy whaleshares via openledger wallet is via bitcoin? whci easy way can I transfer funds there...can I use my steemit wallet? so 100 whaleshares is then 100% upvote, guess it will cost a lot

The exchange is with BTS (bitshares) actually. BTS is around 31-32 cents so could be anywhere from 60 cents to $1.50 per whaleshare.

nice one @financialcritic

what is the dollar equivalent to buy a 50 and a 100 whaleshare value
and do they have effect on it or good ROI?

so one can use his steem dollar, exchange for btc after which he can then buy bitshares and trade for whale shares...isnt that rather a long process?

Cost depends on what price you get a whaleshare for. Currently selling for 2 to 5 BTS (bitshare not bitcoin) per whaleshare. So 100 whaleshares would cost between $60 to $150.

ok...thanks...for this wonderful insights

If you start the process from steemit SBD, it is a very long process, but I am sure they will cut it short as it is still in its initial period.

one question, the post should be new? or we can use that token on old post aswell?

could use it till 6.5 days of posting.

This comment gets a 12.50 % upvote thanks to @shehryar - Hail Eris !

Excellent post. It is well thought out and presented professionally with complete and accurate information.

Thanks a lot bro.

is there a way of getting more people to see your newbie content without buying your way up the ladder though? I would prefer it if my posts were upvoted because more people saw and liked it, not because I bought it

It is an opportunity that I shared. If you don't like it, don't use it. At the end, only those making quality content survives, which is what I have written in bold and at the top. If you are using it on a poor content, you are wasting your money.

@looftee Thanks for this post! As a new user I'm always looking for advice and tools on how to make my experience better. This will go a long way in helping to grow the platform!

great, happy to help you.

same here, It would be cool if it did work.

If you want to try it, You can easily do it with the help of this post.

@looftee
cant steem dollar be used ..if not i wonder why bitshare which should be part of steem not wanna expose steem...we sd be able to use steem and not bitcoin to do this...
whats the stem dollar value of 100 bitshare...

yes, sbd can be deposited there, convert sbd to bitshares and buy whaleshares.Deposit the sbd in deposit section of bitshares.org

ok...thanks nd whats the sbd value?

@looftee

your post is timely and very informative...
I am definitly gonna check this out...
you did very well as such you earned my upvote as well as followership.
thanks once more and hope i shall continue to tap from your good posts...

thanks a lot.

always welcome once more

Question: suppose 1 BTS = about $0.22, and I would need 500 BTS for 100 whaleshares. That's about $110.

In your example, the whaleshare vote gets you < $85.26 (since there are also 7 other voters).

What am I missing?

Well, at this time they are a little bit costly for buying, but the prices will drop surely.

whaleshares <3 love it..

Me too.

now you're making me think of trying it. providing the visual steps helps. Already Got OpenLedger ;)

so have you tried i a what is the outcome...

Très bon article. Tu es superbe.

Merci

how much you have paid for 100 whale shares man?

hmmm...checking onto the market of OpenLedger of Whaleshares. seem to cost about 5 bts for 1 whaleshare. BTS is worth about .21 cents each at this time.

ok, thanks man!!

ladies ;} or say thanx twins

oups, sorry :D

Got it working on my blog..Just testing it to see it works well and how fast it responds. Looks like it responds fast under 30 secs. Great work guys!

Is it a kind of cryptocurrency or just another guy on the kitchen?

kind of currency you can use on steemit.

You Nailed it bro 😇😘

thanks bro.

WOW Niche and very helpful post, Thanks for sharing it with us :)

Welcome bro.

So, I pay whales to promote my article?

What happened to content being upvoted on merit instead of blatant pay-for-status?

I won't be using this service, I think its antithetical to the whole purpose of Steemit. Users should be upvoting because the content is worthy, not because they're being bribed to do so.

In the traditional media world, Facebook and even magazines all have sponsored posts, advertisements or adverts. The curated content will stick to its core. This is a part of the ecosystem. If your content is bad , it won't make it.

I don't use things just because other people do.

I upvote on merit and content. I don't see how paying to get promoted is ethical. To your point, "bad" content can just as easily get promoted as something that deserves attention. How does this make pay-for-promotion a good thing?

I don't see it.

Bad content can get down voted. Reality is this is a social media world. You are using Steemit, you probably have an Instagram, Twitter and Facebook account all which are things other people did before you got on. The beauty of this platform is that it's based on curation so if users see bad content promoted we can just as easily get it down voted or buried in future quality content.

this explains everything, thanks for keeping my back while I was busy.

No problem. Thank you for the article, this was helpful keep producing.

So by using artificial means of getting visibility, which degrades the platform overall and irritates users - that is worth it?

Sorry, I just simply disagree.

I'm not saying it's worth it. If you'd like to waste your money promoting bad content then that's the users fault. But what I am saying is just like boosting a Facebook post through its advertising platform this is the same method just on the blockchain. If used properly it can be effective with quality content. I get the concern that will be up to Steemit and the users to curate properly.

well, not everyone agree that steemit is a better platform than many other social platforms. So it depend on your perception, but you can't prove anything right or wrong based on your perception. Some people have found a better use of things while some don't like those things. This is how the world works. If everyone agree on something, there is no chance of development. Criticism makes things better, but saying something is completely wrong based on only your opinion isn't right either.

also on point @ebmgrj
now judging from both arguments i may take my stand soon...
which reminds me of my new blog post today as regards brain power...

It is not a sure shot way of making money, but an opportunity that provides you to get noticed. If you use it in your every post, you have to pay a little bit more than what you earn from it. So no question of making money whenever you post by using it.

good point...i think steemit should develop a policy ensuring whales stop hurting their votes for money and spread it daily especially to minnows...sent a new post yesterday and others but very low value after investing so much nery a time which is not motivating to write much.

Good posting I followed ya

also the link you provided for the Whaleshares BTS greyed out.
https://bitshares.org/wallet/#/market/WHALESHARE_BTS
greyout

Think the correct link you are looking for so the area not to grey out for buy and sell is
https://openledger.io/market/WHALESHARE_BTS
greyoutnot

You have to create an account and login, then it will not grey out.

This post received a 4.8% upvote from @randowhale thanks to @looftee! For more information, click here!

seems like the guareenteed method to make real money - will you be moving up in influence quickly too ?

you mean reputation @daydreams4rock
well, if you earn more, and invest wisely in powering up your steem power...your voting power and reputation climbs...so yeah...

It has a lot of uses, but not a quick way to make money.

ok i tried to register following your instructions -- now i am having trouble getting onto bitshares and i shared a post about it earlier today with a copy of the screen that is blocking me -- please give me your opinion of how i should get onto the bitshares page again ?

Ok, I will see it.
