Streetchange is an app that measures physical changes or appearances in a specific location using a computer algorithm. It compares Google Street View images over the years and algorithmically come up with quantifiable change measurement.
The app was developed in response to the challenge in measuring urban changes as I quote from the About page:
Physical urban change—the evolution of cities' public and private infrastructure—has been of interest to policymakers, as well as scholars in economics, sociology, and urban planning for decades. However, it has been difficult to measure urban change in ways that are quantitative, robust, and scalable.

That's an interesting app. The world changes so fast that we easily forget the old. That's why we look back on our memories while looking at the old pictures. I think this is a great service to record our past instead of us. We could find our old times in this service. It's really fantastic! I really like it and I'd like to use it. The city or village we live in is changing endlessly. It's just that we don't usually notice it. Using this map, I can see the street and present of the past as if I were traveling in time. I find this service interesting.
I think it will be very helpful for people who are working in real estate development. It will be useful in analyzing the factors of change in the process of change. On the other hand, it seems to be possible to use it as a conversation and to talk about memories. It will be a pleasant story to see pictures of the village where you lived when you were a child.
Streetchange is an amazing way to come to know how your old place changed over times. The way the urban population and industrialization is growing cities are changing briskly. Nice way to monitor change and refresh your olden days memory. Nice hunt

With this one can measure the extent of growth and population of a city. Even the change in traffic density can be measured to draw conclusions.

An extremely innovative showcase of the technology. Never thought that we can use visual technology to build something like this. People at MIT are great! Even Google might have not thought that there Street View platform could be used in this way to help list streets, alleys etc. that have undergone major changes.

I am sure this app is really interesting to watch urban change in real manners. innovative technology is using to find the innovative changes in environment is just focused to show how human lives their lives in past.
The software also can be use in policy making. it can be easy to find the change of rate in urban areas.

This is very informative particularly when we have lived in an area for so many decades back to our grand parents and now we can actually see all the changes from their time and what we have today. This will be helpful for engineers and architects as they build projects in the area. Great hunt.
Wow! It will be interesting to see how familiar streets like the one you live in or even the street where you grew up in has changed over the last several years. I mean is it busier today? Is the place greener? Or has the street deteriorated over the years? The idea just brings a lot of nostalgia for me.
From reading the project's FAQs, StreetChange could also be a very useful tool to aid policymakers, government, and community leaders make better decisions for the community and the streets we live in. It will be interesting to see how this project will be put to use.

The idea of Streetchange is different and also very smart and interesting. It would be great to see my neighbourhood's change in the years. Perfect hunt.
It is no secret to anyone that some cities have grown up in a disorderly and unplanned way. This leads to not having a graphic representation of the changes and therefore not being able to evaluate the damages and propose some solutions for this problem. With the Streetchange we are close to having a real map of everything that surrounds us and the different transformations that spaces have undergone in time. What does this mean? That not only will this serve to have a historical memory of the spaces, but that the experts will be able to act more securely in the face of certain emergencies. This seems to me to be an excellent piece of work worthy of any recognition. Very good hunting

In modern days the physical appearance is changing so rapidly and the evolution of infrastructure is so fast that the planner at times have no clue to what it was years back, although they have the data but they lack that kind of visual measurement. I think with this software it makes the job of the planner so easy in coordinating and quantifying the things when they will be able to visually measure the changes of the facility and infrastructure in that particular area over years. This can further help them as a city planner and for architect also it can help a lot.

Well, after trying out the site I found a lot of missing images, I guess this tool is kind of new and it has only been tested in a few cities in the USA. I hope they can improve it, it's a great idea.

What do you mean quantifiable? And why does someone, even policy makers need to know how change has happened? That too by looking at what exactly. Just show them two pictures from before and after that show considerable change. Other stats for policy makers must already be available. Like how many new homes were built? How many parks destroyed etc. It would have been great if its only meant for fun to see how a place has changed. And that itself is good enough to attract users. Policy makers, i doubt, need this.
