Ace is an open source project that delivers high-performance code editor for the web. It can be embedded in websites that may need a high-quality code editor. It is written in javascript and capable of high performance similar to native editors like Sublime, Vim, TextMate.
In one my previous hunts on mobile IDE I was asked a question "Why would there be a need for that when desktop software would be a better fit?" So similarly, why should anybody care about web IDE or coding editor?
I agree coding is much more efficient and productive while on a desktop or a laptop. However, there are situations when we are not always at our desks and need to do some coding or code review on the go and/or when our own computers are not available. Web coding editors come in handy in these situations.
Moreover, Ace can be easily integrated into websites that deliver educational tools, cloud coding, code sharing, collaborating features.

Thank you for spotlighting this. I just tried it. Pretty cool for some quick updates. I still like desktop editors for all the other fancy linting, auto-completion, snippets ... But this is definitely nice for lightweight coding ... or playing around with an idea.
