Being the wife of a principal was not always easy.
They are very busy people although some people think they only work half day.
For me it was difficult as he never wanted me to make friends with parents, and that made it difficult to find a friend that did not have a child at school. The reason for this was that he always said, it is one thing when we all go together with other teachers but having one friend with children in school was not acceptable.
I did understand his reasons as it would put him in a difficult position when the children get medals or other things that was chosen by the teachers. You cannot believe how parents can be if you have a friend whose child gets picked and you are friends with them.
People always thought the reason was that the child is chosen because of a friendship. So through all the years while he was teaching my friend had to come from somewhere else. The only time we could become friends with parents was when the children left the school to go to high school. This is when find out who were our real friends.
Parents can be very nasty to teachers, because they always think that their child is better than the one who was chosen. We all love our children very much, but I still think except if there is a real problem keep away from school and let the child do his own thing.
Children are not like that, they always loved their leaders and this was always done on a very strict and correct way so no matter whom the child’s parents were, poor or rich.
Important or not the child was chosen on their own merit and that is the way it should be.
So sometimes I felt a little down if I liked someone very much, and cannot become good friends with them I always understood.
People think that the principal’s wife has nothing to do with the school, which is true but under certain conditions we as wife’s had a job to do for our husbands and we just had to do it. Lots of functions and concerts and other silly little things.
I am not complaining as I really love my husband and he really worked very hard. Now that I am on pension with him and it is bliss for we can make friends with whomever we want and we are really enjoying our lives together.
My mother in law passed away on the 13th of last month and for the first time in I don’t know how many years but at least 26 we can come and go as we want. As we were both only children we looked after every parent in our home till they passed, the last one his mother passed at 95 and we suddenly realised it was not a problem for us to look after our parents but we only realise now, that we have never ever had time just for ourselves.
We just jump in the car and go to the shop together as it is something we could never do but can now. We take walks on the beach.
Unfortunately we are really getting old so I really hope we will still have time to enjoy ourselves together. Yesterday we went out for the day, and I can assure you today we are both so tired you cannot believe it. So hope we can both still write for a while so we can enjoy our pensioner days as you saw the pension is not going up and life is getting more expensive.
So steemit is really a blessing to us as it brings in a little extra money and we can still both use our brains for something new. We love putting some memories on here so one day our grandchildren will enjoy it as well.

yes i get that. Indeed every parent wants the best for his kids. It's a tough job on both parents, teachers, and teachers (or principal's wives lol)

What a delightful story! I am sure your hands must feel empty after your mother in law passed away. It was a wonderful deed to have looked after both your parents for so many years. You both certainly deserve to do things together now, especially visiting your children and grandchildren more often. Enjoy your company together, time is not standing still!
