The potassium tuber is here to shine in this, the 10th week of the Steemit IronChef Competition hosted by the fantastic foodie @progressivechef.
To elevate the unassuming potato, I used it in several different ways. I used sweet potatoes, white potatoes, and white potatoes in the different components of this dish. Here's a bird's eye view of the dish:
About how I made each of the components:
I'll write a separate post about the rolls, but they are sweet potato yeast rolls loaded with caramelized leeks and made with a mixture of whole wheat and all purpose flours. They are toothsome and slightly sweet, and I brushed the tops with olive oil and a sprinkle of salt once they were done baking.
For the smoked paprika crispy thin potatoes, I sliced white potatoes on the thinnest setting on my mandoline, then tossed the slices in olive oil, salt, and smoked paprika before arranging them in a small dish. They baked for a good long time until they were perfectly crispy, ready to be dipped in an over easy egg yolk straight from the backyard girls.
The curried leek and potato soup has the subtle earthy sweetness of curry powder and gets its creaminess from red potatoes alone. There is no dairy of any kind added to this simple soup. Leek, garlic, onion, potato, chicken stock, salt, and curry are the only ingredients in this twist on the classic.
The potato and pea cheddar crisps were made from mashed baked white potatoes and green peas combined with an egg and cheddar cheese. I made them like pancakes, little dollops onto a nonstick pan over medium heat.
Some Austrian winter pea shoots and finely minced chives from the backyard helped to finish the dish with some sweet herby green.
Here are a few process shots:
And of course, here is my proof photo:
I hope you've enjoyed this recipe, and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Another absolute beauty of a dish ... looks so hearty elegant and tasty !
Thanks so much @globaldoodlegems! I'm so glad you think it's elegant- my kitchen was definitely NOT elegant after making it ;)
Looks delicious! You did an amazing job with different kinds of potatoes. It’s definitely a treat! Great ideas and presentation as usual!!
Thanks @offoodandart :)
Amazing, as usual. I have to say I really am a big potato fan and I would eat this whole plate in short order. I bet those rolls were delicious.
the rolls are so good! I'll write a post with the recipe soon when I have the time - the recipe made a lot of rolls (16 huge ones) so I definitely have some in the freezer!
Nice job giving some props to the under-appreciated potato.
Imagine walking into a diner and getting one of these wonderful potato creations as a side dish with your bacon and eggs?
On second thought, no I can't imagine it, and I guess I'll just have to settle for a scoop of greasy hash browns. 😉
haha no greasy hashbrowns!! the crispy potatoes are sooo worth the extra effort!
I love the smoked paprika crispy potatoes with the backyard egg. It reminds me of one of my favorite snacks, egg and crisps. Where you put a soft cooked egg into a bag of potato chips and shake the whole thing up and eat! All the chips get coated in egg yolk. It's divine.
woah! I didn't know that existed but now I've got to try it! Do you put the egg white in too, or just the yolk? Amazing!
I do it with the whole egg. So, you will get little bits of egg white on the chips as well as the creamy yolk.
Those crispy potatoes with the egg yolk, absolutely yum! So wonderfully presented too ;-)
Wow, does that look ever-delicious. Thanks for the look at some amazing creations.
Thanks so much @ddschteinn :) I want to make it again but I am le tired :)
Again another wonderful entry from you my friend...as usual you did so much work in making this dish!
I got a lot of great ideas from your entry...the smoked paprika crispy thin potatoes...the sweet potato and leek roll...the potato and pea cheddar crisps!!!
Thank you so much! I think smoked paprika is so underused! It's an amazing flavor :)
Those must have taken forever to make! I been sneaking some smoked paprika into things. What their taste buds don't notice but mine do make life just a little more enjoyable!
It's so good right!! It adds a whole new dimension to food - i love it! Thanks @enjar :)
