The list above is surprising in so many ways.
First, Ripple just overtook Ethereum as the largest second currency in the world by market cap.
Second, Stellar just made it to top 10.
And third, crypto veterans BTC, LTC and ETH are all in red.
If one would speculate over these numbers - I'm not saying I am, I'm just talking about a hypothetical person that would speculate over this - he would probably correlate the influx of value into Ripple and Stellar with the exit of value from crypto veterans.
Another correlation that he will make would be about the function of the two winners: they are both helping banks with their intercommunication processes, speeding up transfers.
In other words, money seem to be flowing out of "hype", into "function". Investors seem to become more and more educated and "just because it's on the blockchain" is not enough of a reason anymore to support a token. It has to do something real, useful, measurable.
If this piece of speculation turns out to be true, then brace yourselves, because the next target of "functional money" will be appcoins like Steemit.
Just sayin'...

If you're new to Steemit, you may find these articles relevant (that's also part of my witness activity to support new members of the platform):
In my country, India many banks are adopting ripple as a mode of payment to make it faster. This will surely increase its price.
The crypto world is definitely full of surprises. I do not think anyone would have imagined ripple overtaking ethereum to be the second largest coin by market cap. I agree with your speculation and I'm very positive 2018 will be a massive year for steem.
I still think Korean pumping has something to do with it...

Stellar is a surprise, cuz it's not listed on Korean exchanges
And wow, China pumps things too
hi @dragosroua,
informative assessment about the rising of Ripple and Stellar day by day. you are right we should see the trend of market. predictions are only 50/50. i have only interest in Steem, so i love it.
waiting for NEM to do the same as I see it as the most useful and underhyped!
https://steemit.com/nem/@safetony/ep-26-okex-snap-interactive-blockgrain-wechat-xarcade
Token with incredible use cases are getting investors interests now.
i try to diversify my coin intake just to be on the safe side, you should also try it . dont rely on just steem alone
that is so true, and steem in my own opinion,is the most functional cryptocurrency there is right now.
+1 steemit to the moon
i think 2018 will be a testing period for most coins, some will go bust while the important will survive, i think the app coins and utility coins will be the biggest winners
Really? To what end do you form your opinion? No disrespect; but, sounds like 'hype'. Forgive my inner cynicism/caution.
Let's be honest; STEEM is a very volatile crypto; and, the 'infighting' makes its usefulness/purpose questionable.
Of course I'd love for your opinion to be on point; but, without data to support your opinion....hmmm....
Best regards for 2018!
Peace.
yes steem is very volatile and at the same time its very versatile. check out all the apps and other platforms on the steem blockchain, from dsound to dtube to steepshot to dmania to zapple, these are all functional platforms and it takes just one of them to be greatly successful and then steem will moon, with all these its bound to happen, steem is already a blockchain with functional implementations psreading its tentacles to capture everything internet not like some blockchains that investment is based on promising future projects.
Aha! Very valid points; very well stated!
Many thanks @darkerhorse. Your points are well taken and deserving of a tip!
Peace.
for ripple to reach this status was a long time coming , eventually the banks were going to cave in, for stellar to do what its doing is another story, had my doubts but alas . if your prediction is true then 2018 we should brace ourselves for for steem and SBD to rise from the ashes
They both cater to banks it just to what banks is the question
Only time will tell if this is fact or over-optimistic fiction. ;+)
Best regards for 2018!
Peace.
Your writing is very interesting.
But I want to ask you, what do you think about the development of 2018 bitcoin price in the future?
I just want to survey some people
Unless it goes up, it will go down. There are only two directions :)
Sorry, but I don't do predictions. I can sometimes identify some trends and talk about them, but other than that I just follow the market. Market is always right.
Everyone seems to be asking this question, nothing is certain in this game. The only one that can answer this question with certain degree of certainty is a trader who is in control of 70% of world's bitcoin. Then you can dump and pump at will.
Bitcoin has always got better. The biggest and the first with support from the worlds best. Just give it time. New ways and forks would make the dared Bitcoin better again. We all know that the ripple effect will still happen again
This similarity between stellar and ripple is striking
steemit is our very own favorite cryptocurrency. And in 2018 I'm looking steemit in top 20 list of Market cap.
Ripple is looking in very aggressive mood. I predict it would be at least $5 in 1st week of January, 2018.
ADA & XLM will remain under $1 but their Market Cap will grow. But obviously this is a big day for XLM to come in Top 10.
Excellent post and very nice analysis on the recent ups and down in the world of cryptocurrency. Keep sharing your experience and research @dragosroua.
Ripple Ripple Ripple everywhere for past a few days show it's potential according to the current scenario of the market :P
As far as the Steem is concerned i have noticed one thing that people are very much satisfied to this currency and there is no hustle among them.
Thanks @dragosroua for making the picture more clear about Ripple.
Keep updating and stay blessed :)
Interesting observation... which also makes me wonder where we would place Steem on the "utility" scale. It fuels a social site and there are SMTs in the works... but does that make it more of a utility coin?
It pays you to be social. Unlike Facebook, Twitter et co, which are selling you when you're social. It may take a while until we reach the tipping point at which people will really realize this fundamental difference, but once reached, there's no way back.
I also like the idea of Steemit; that blogers, such as yourself get paid for quality content.
In principle it doesn't matter how this goes; via likes or up-votes or commercials or direct payments.
Also I, as user, want to contribute to such bloggers & do my best to "return the favor".
Are you familiar with https://indahash.com/? Their ICO ended couple of weeks ago. The idea behind this is, than the "influencer's" get $$$ for good visited, rated, seen... posts on different social networks.
By the way @dragosroua, tnx for the analysis!
We just have to wait until Appics launches and puts the first SMT project in the hands of everyone using an smartphone and taking pictures. Just realizing how they add money on top of using a great app will set the tipping point.
What is exceptionally stunning however is that Bitcoin's market cap dominance hit all time low with 38% at the moment of the writing of this comment!
Moreover: Ripple's market cap is $90B, Bitcoin's market cap is $220B, meaning that Bitcoin's only 2.4 times the size of Ripple. Proportionally, it means that right now, what Ripple is to Bitcoin is the same what Steem is to Bitshares or Lisk is to Monero.
Thanks for keeping the uneducated updated! All the best for you in 2018!
Its indeed time for Steemit to shine in 2018 with introduction of SMTs and Steemit related applications like the recently very successful @appics presale..
didn't saw the growth of Stellar in the ripple growth looks like the shift is coming
That´s a very valid point and I´m seeing it the same way. Don´t forget Cardano, which is also on the rise and their main mission is scalability and becoming a reliable gateway currency from and into the fiat world. The difference with Cardano though is, that it´s a real cryptocoin, that is not owned and controlled by banks like Ripple. I see this as a very important paradigm shift in the Cryptoworld.
great one......../////////
as we see more and more banks get behind ripple and stellar we should see these coins rise even more still a good buy for the long haul. dont miss out people you might be kicking yourselves in the head
Good overview @dragosroua
thank you for the information is very useful for me
happy new year and good luck
TRAVESTY
I hope that utility tokens are the new trend. Coins like Sia, Golem, Ripple, and Stellar could really use a pump and some new investors because of the kind of tech they offer.
Good article,
btw @dragosroua , if you have a couple of minutes available, please, could you participate in this survey?

ripples are making ripples in the world now :) thanks for the anlysis sir..very informative..
just hope that they dont dump
What website do you use to show you stats on yer fave coins? I wanna use that app shown in the image above
I think ETH he will return to second place in the coming days
I think that like me, many of us were surprised by the growth of Ripple in the last days. It shows us how unpredictable the world of Cryptomoney is. I think many will regret not having bought a few thousand tokens when they were worth nothing

I had no idea Stellar was growing at such a fast rate like that. That may be another one that I have to start taking a look into.
Buy LTC, BTC now :D
pfew ripple did very well indeed haha :)
