No matter how small you are, your upvote counts!
Maybe you noticed that I gave upvotes with lesser percentage on the slider.
That's only because I want to recover my voting power so this will not last for long. As I check my "battery" on https://steemstats.com/ every day, I can't not to think about quality of posts that I upvote.
My methods are old, I do it with my fingers on my mouse ;).
I have always avoided to give automatic upvotes and support something that I don't know what. Well, everybody does that, the most of the users don't even check what they upvote. I must say that I don't upvote a user. I upvote a post and user's good or bad history on this network has nothing to do with that.
Many of early adopters noticed and wrote about new generation of spammers and their copy/paste "I follow you/you follow me" concept of comments and we were all mad about it!
But if you stop and think for a second, we all upvote and support the same people all the time! And those same people follow, upvote and support us for longer than a year! Isn't that the same like "I follow you/you follow me" concept?
It's nice to have regular supporters on daily basis and we are all regular supporters to some other users that we have chosen.
Until when?
Until someone get's angry because she/he had a bad day and snaps on his followers and says some bad things? Until that someone doesn't show her/his bad side? And you will not even notice that! Because you will see familiar name on the list and you will upvote without even checking!
There are so many posts rewarded more than 30$ and those who gave them such a reward didn't even check the content!
I'm pretty sure that the number of views depends on minnows! For example, the one who get's 50$ every day, receives 5$ reward from those who opened the post and 45$ from those who didn't. There is no any data or numbers to confirm my theory, but I have spoken with many "Steem powerful" users about their methods of upvoting and I'm pretty sure that 90% of reward on your post came from those who never opened your post.

Otherwise, we have a lot of those who will open the post, support you in the comments and they will not upvote you!
Especially the recent generation of so-called minnows. Many of them will write the comment like "great story, thanks for sharing" they won't upvote you, then you have to remind them. And they answer that they don't upvote because their votes don't have any value.
Well, that's wrong!
If your upvote doesn't give any cents or dollars to others, why not to upvote posts that you like because of support and how can you expect to be supported if you don't really support anyone?
Every vote counts!
I remember a year ago, my upvote didn't worth anything and I didn't have slider to choose the percentage of my impact. So I simply upvoted all that I liked. I didn't care about my voting power because I didn't need it! The whole battery recovers for five days and it can take for months for some new users to get enough Steem power for the slider! So, don't keep your upvotes for better days, upvote people, be a supporter and you will be supported. This is like back to "I follow you/you follow me" concept but less rude!
I'm hired as a temporary curator for #whalepower, a movement founded by @bullionstackers.
Honestly, I'm not happy with the most post that I can find under that tag because some people think that they can upload a photo or a spam, hire @randowhale or @booster, then expect upvote from #whalepower crew! That's not how this goes, we are looking for hidden gems! And the rest of the crew are stronger than I am and it doesn't have to mean that the rest of the crew will upvote what I support!
Thanks for understanding!

@dumar022
I see my name have been mentioned.
Dumar is currently on Training to be a curator for #whalepower, We need different curators from perspective views on posts. Every Curators will have different kind of likes especially thru their Reading.
I am currently very busy setting up the Discord Channel for #whalepower Community.
Paul is currently on leave. I may get another curator in to help out.
And also invested significant amount of SP into my account , Thanks to Paul again.
Good luck, my friend:)

Thanks for reinforcing the concept of upvoting content and not people. I am finding lots of content every day with more than $10 in value that does not seem fair. I also appreciate your efforts to curate and upvotes real hidden gems and not just whoever uses your tag on their posts. Your job would lose its integrity if you did. I am still finding it difficult to believe in the fairness of this site but people like yourself and many others who work hard to value excellent content is what keeps me here.
Thank you:)
There are many ways to vote and I don't think there is wrong or good in any way possible. However, I do see your point! I vote manually and I am in a guild because I don't always have enough time on my hands and that way my votes are still going out. This might not be the best way but not voting is even more bad in my eyes.
What I do agree on 100% is the fact that most post are not even opened to see what is in it making some post go really high in ranks while the better posts stay low.
I also agree on the fact that every vote counts no matter how strong the vote is! It feels good to wake up and find votes on your posts may they give to money or not! And waking up with a good feeling makes that your day will go better as well!
I think in the future things will start to change a lot here on this platform, some for the better others might cause some panic. For now, all I can say is that I love Steemit 100% even when I get no votes at all!
Your comment deserves a vote and I totally agree with everything you said. And a follower too!
Aww Thank you :D You made me smile, blush and giggle all at the same time!
Wow, what did I do? Bearing in mind that you have thanked and even voted me ... I hope I did not say anything wrong!
Your words touched me. You gave me a happy feeling through a screen and I see that as magic! BTW... I am following you now so you found yourself a stalking snake! Don't worry I don't bite! :D
Thanks for all! I'm glad to meet a friendly snake.
Thank you, I am glad that you understood this right way
You are more than welcome!
I hear you loud and clear and agree. I stopped all automatic upvoting accept to a very few select people. I think it's 4 people. And its time to end that too. And although my followers are a small group as i am new. I like that many comment with genuine comments who have read what I wrote. That means more to me than anything. It has made me stop and think more about what I am posting. Trying to add more meaningful content. Thanks for your hard work.
Are you still using @treeplanter? What's your feeling on upvote bots?
My thinking is that there are just too many content creators for such a tiny relative % of curators with large voting power. I have come to believe that whales and larger account holders should delegate SP to a much, much wider pool of potential curators.
That is, better to have 20 people looking for good content to upvote with 5,000SP each, than 5 people with 20,000SP each. There's such an influx of new users and an absolute deluge of low quality posts that we need more people upvoting the good stuff and indeed more people downvoting the plagiarism/low effort/shit posts.
What do you reckon?
I am also against auto voting, for the same reason.
And that's the only right way to STEEM ON :)
By reading each post and making a judgement on the quality and originality before you cast your vote. You build quality posts into the steemit concept.
The numbers are just too high for that to be feasible though. You are absolutely right that it SHOULD be this way, but I don't believe it's practical. Check my comment on @tim-rumfords comment here - would be interested to hear what you think.
Thanks, that's what I want to say!
Excellent post, RESTEEM!
Thanks, bro!
I think the upvote power should not drop or at least not so fast ... I run out of steem long before I run out of very good interesting things to read here ...such as your post right here ... but cannot give you anything for it as my steem was used up hours ago ... and the thought that the more you use it in a day the less its worth just does not compute ... the harder you work and the more you do to support the platform in a day should at least have a steem bonus....
Great 👍👍
Thanks
Hi................. Dear@dumar022
Very useful blog.
Thanks for sharing.
resteemed and voted.
Cheers!
Thank you!
Hello my dear friend ❤️
I am following your account every day { 🙏🤝 }
@haji
Thank you very much! :)
You are acting right! Curating manually is the best man!
Exactly!
i agree i remember when my posts got $0.00 and my upvote was worth the same 10 months or so ago!
voting on quality posts is what i do, i want to see real life posts not memes etc
I look for new users whose content i like and encourage them to keep steeming on - some people expect upvotes for any old comment
Yes, you're right
What makes it even worse is the fact that by always voting for the same people, steemit will never become a real "social-media"...
I vote everyday with my little cents until my vp is under 85%... and I always check the feed of who voted for me. If the feed has quality content I vote and/or resteem... but I see a lot of stolen pictures with no text or any added value 😒 Sad...
It's been a long time since I had more than 85% for the last time
I suppose so... but your 85% is still worth something. Mine is 0... As soon as I can go lower than 85% and still give "something" I will... and will be very happy to...
When my vote wasn't giving any cents, I upvoted all I could!
My "battery" was rarely above 50%. That's because when you don't give much, you don't hesitate to upvote. When I realized that my upvote could worth something, I just took few days of to recover my VP
Well, for me it works out fine. Considering the fact that I'm online everyday... I can start a new day with almost 100% vp... I really prefer to give 1 cent than an upvote of 0. But that must be me 😄
I'm on your page - @pixelfan. I'm new here and dropped my power to 40% before I knew it was a thing. Now I try to stay above 75% all the time and better 85%. I'm careful with my votes and pay attention to what I read.
I have an active twitter, so I tweet posts when I can't upvote. It is very simple and the posts come through nicely. I have a steemer list over there with about 50 steemers now and I rt those people too.
I'm getting a lot of action from non-steeming tweeps on my steemer posts. This is a way I can help without voting and I let the person know I did it in a comment.
I'm an accountant and it makes no sense to me to run all over the place voting with no power. I'd rather have no vote than someone at reputation 25 and 3% power.
I cannot see the strategy there at all. None of those people ever comment on my posts when I get their vote so I do not know what the point is. No connection is made and no value changes hands. I'm glad to know I am not the only one :)
excellent posting ..... resteem ok?
Thank you!
I went for 50% on this post as it was very well written and honest.
I agree with you in the most part that people don't always read their friends posts and vote without looking at the content. I always read them as it's the right thing to do and the only way you can provided a thoughtful and relevant comment.
I'm always trawling around looking for new subscribers who are working hard and providing quality posts to vote up as that's the way it should be.
I imagine there a many others doing this too as the platform needs people who are doing ok here to pay it forward to the newbies who are worth a vote.
Thanks for the work you're doing and a great post.
Thank you for this nice comment;)
You're welcome 😉
Thanks, real value for me in the hard way to understand how things are going here. Upvoted as I upvote all I like, I'm sorry when I upvote and see the money counter not moving but I hope for the future for more power and knowlidge.
Resteemet because I think there are many who need this info...
Thank you! Reward is not important, but upvote is
I have to agree, content is the most important part of any post. The upvote for upvote thing does get on my nerves, but upvoting someone just because they are in your clique is also not helping to improve the quality of Steemit posts.
Thank you!
oh now i understand more about steempower. thanx very very much for breaking it to my understanding. This post impact more knowlegde to me about steemit.
Hey @dumar022!! While I entirely agree with the main focus of this post. And since I really wanna test how trusty is the quote above. Only to prove to myself that whales & chaps with High Reputation Scores like you (70) not only upvote each other posts exclusively. I will dare to suggest you fish a bit over the pond of my @por500bolos profile. Let's see if you can't find a few of those hidden gems you say you are looking for. :)
Btw.. upvoted this post with all the almighty weak power of my vote!! :)
Well, many of them "suggested" me to visit their blog on comments of my posts and I hate that! But this one is original
Haha yeah! I am an extravagantly original chap!!
Now.. Go and prepare your fishing rod. }:)
I know someone who just decided to try that strategy and he is posting his posts on Whale comments to good result. I'm not willing to go there though. It takes nerve I do not have :)
THX for this post! I'm new here in the Steemit community, but much of what you're saying makes good sense to me. I hadn't thought about upvoting based on the content instead supporting someone you follow regardless of the post. I still have much to learn, but people like yourself are helping with that & I'm enjoying being here. 7-3's!
This post has received a 3.33 % upvote from @booster thanks to: @dumar022.
Thanks for this, helps me understand the voting thing a little better. As a newbie I confess it is a little discouraging to see some posts in the "hot" and "trending" categories that seem pretty much like spam to me... If we do not improve curation so that only the BEST posts trend and get hot, it will be detrimental to the reputation of the entire platform.
I read 69.765 percent of your post and I don't remember the percentage I upvoted. A lot of what you posted will never change and it's unfortunate my friend. It's the deep alliances and the trending names and not ususally content that is rewarded.
How's your little angel doing my friend? She will grow up so fast, so enjoy that little angel any extra minute you have. Much love from @runridefly.
She's great, she grows each day but she can't stand to be a second without mom. I guess I can't do much in first month... I wonder when we can start balancing
You are just the right type of person for curating in #whalepower. Someone who is thoughtful and honest.
" I'm pretty sure that 90% of reward on your post came from those who never opened your post."
You are right mate..
I am against the Auto Voting..
Every post must be read..
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for the comment
I've been saying the same thing since the HF, attention all new minnows, even if you think your upvote means nothing, it still matters. Almost every one of the members of the community started with nothing as well. Vote on content you like and engage the authors. It is the best method towards growth.
I understand now.
thank you for your efforts!
Nice, how to I connect with @whalepower? I am creating quality posts and curation and I would love whale power. Thanks for the check.
