RE: Well, it's good to be first?

in #steemit5 years ago (edited)

I'm not convinced SMTs are as big a deal as they're made out to be. MAYBE they could be used for ICOs - but we know what a scorched landscape that is. And, only a few communities on STEEM are big enough to support the sized economies to make SMTs worthwhile. Those that are big enough can probably marshall enough resource to make an SMT-like thing for themselves until it gets baked into the chain. Don't get me wrong, I reckon the opportunity is there for SMTs - they are a good thing to do. But there's a lot of other maybe better things that could be done too.

Sort:

I'm actually completely against SMTs to be honest. We have an adoption problem in general in crypto already, so why add 1000 more confusing points of entry that are in disparity and fighting for traction in the markets.

Further, we use STEEM, I'm not even sure why we need SBD and pegging and all, i understand the "why" premise of commerce and usd pegging and all, but shit, can we make it any harder for Aunt Gertrude to use here please? What can we do with SMTs we couldn't do with widespread adoption of a single coin. BTC works pretty well at the places that accept it, they didn't need to make 1000 versions of it.

I made e-stores on shopify that accept steem OR sbd, and not a single made up out of thin air token nobody else uses anywhere else, was harmed in their creation.

sigh

Moot point anyway. Its all talk and no delivery so far, and now we're worrying about "Destiny" and shit, so are SMTs even going to ever appear? I have my doubts.

Speaking of adoption problems. Any chance of mailing some occassional packets of 10g PAMP to New Zealand? :)

That depends. Are you willing to pay more for shipping than buying it local? :D
