Well, it's good to be first?

in #steemit5 years ago (edited)

LOL this is rich... or tragic. You be the judge.

@whatsup dropped this in steamspeak discord earlier tonight and I just happened to be scrolling through there looking for a funny meme I had seen, when I noticed it.

So I know why he muted me, which is by and large the same reason aggroed can't stand me. It's because I expect them to be accountable for their shallow behaviors, and their tendency to take the glory for other people's ideas and efforts, not to mention ultimately in some way profiting from the same, while barely showing up on the chain themselves and expecting others to promote them all the time.

Word is rolling into me that Ned has basically muted anyone who ever challenged him, or held him accountable. That smells like fear, and I'm pretty sure it's warranted, as the place continues to lose it's best and brightest, while he ignores them.

In other words. People with substance and backbone scare people like them, because we expose what integrity looks like and they don't really have much of it, in either case. Nobody likes to say that outloud, because of whatever reason. Maybe because they are suckups, or hypnotized cult members, or they are afraid of the whale retaliation, or being shunned and on and on, all of which have manifested themselves around these alleged "leaders".

But ask yourselves, what have these people really done, but line their own pockets at other people's expense?

So, I suppose it makes sense he would mute me. But look at some of the other names.

Heimindanger is a person you may or may not like in person, but there is absolutely no arguing that dtube (his creation) is anything BUT a driving force in what is still keeping this place alive in the absence of innovation or functional updates from steemit inc, for example.

Bernie, who has a ton of money in the platform, may or may not be everybody's cup of tea, but hes got more stake than anybody else who will read this post, so you can damn well bet Ned should be making him happy if he wants his company to stay alive, not pissing him (and the rest of us) off by barely managing to manage his company which very much has this "decentralized" platform by the cajones.

kafkanarchy and nonamesleftouse? These two are both brilliant minds, future thinkers, and artists of their own right and of merit. Exactly the kinds of users that can make or break this place. I sort of considered myself in this category as well, and tried hard for 20 months to contribute, in ways most of you already know about as well.

So muting these users? Alienating these users? Just more rookie moves by an amateur with no prior experience, in way over his head.

I don't know the others at all, but the names above? We would have been and HAVE been some of steems biggest cheerleaders and contributors to the ecosystem. Shit, we did everything we could to help stop the user attrition and to build the communities that you were told to stay for after coming for the money.

But at least he ignored me first? I guess that means I made an impact. And that makes me chuckle through the tears and blood I've shed for this place.

I hear whaleshares.io, scorum and smoke are nice places to visit this time of year.

Maybe it's time for a little exploratory mission into some of these alternatives, I see a ton of the people who have left here since I've been here for the last year and half, are already there.

As sincerely as I've always been,
@SirCork

Sort:

Ned is a fucking joke.

Has he muted me yet? He and his STINC employees won’t even engage with me, so it’s pretty much the same thing.

It goes without saying that the “leadership” for Steem and Steemit is mostly comprised of utter amateurs and incompetents. The continually falling market cap rankings are a direct result of their failures. That’s too bad. Steem started off with so much promise, only to be pissed down the drain by people who can’t economics or social media. SMTs will be more of the same...or much, much worse.

And here we were, people with decades of tech experience, ready to make it great. Marginalized for being right. Every.single.time.

Well said dude.

I stopped posting when I started getting constantly flagged by a certain member of Steemit inc and his little crew of pathetic followers.
The piss poor leadership is going to destroy the platform eventually unless there are real changes, it’s a shame.

Off-topic; nice to see u around again!

When can we expect your next awesome posts???

Funny who you find out you have things in common with. Check out some of the alt sites, I've found them to feel a lot like the "old days"... refreshing.

You giving up bro, really?

No, I'm not gonna let the terrorists win. ;) But I may find more enjoyable places for R&R between battle rounds.

if steem were really decentralized this shouldn't even matter. unfortunately it isn't. i'm sure ned wants it to succeed, but he needs to be a little more self aware that this platform needs protection from himself :)

Ain't that the truth!

People who mute people on a regulatory basis, have a problem of not living in the real world.

This is accurate.

Nice mutes.

Echo chamber creation in progress

Hello, hello, hello, is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me...

Hiding behind down-voting does not take care of underlying problem. Really hope the big boys put their big panties on, come swooping in to the rescue...

Hiding, and being evasive, are only necessary if you are outgunned or in this case, unable to defend against the things being put at ya, right?

So basically, copping out is copping out. An adult, mature, experienced CEO would handle his business, not make himself look ridiculous by being evasive.

Too many false promises being made of late, business ethics appear to have lost moral compass.

When offered assistance/advice any business should actively look into immediately. KYC policy adopted or people leave.

Working with public especially where finance is implemented answers can only come from the top, then trickle down.

All of that is true.

I have been seeing a little from Smoke.io.
Since I live in Oregon there is a genuine allure. Always glad to see your posts, irony really is my cup of tea.

Sounds like we share a taste for irontea

I didn't think muting did anything? 😂 wtf does it do.

It stops you from seeing their posts/comments on Steemit.com

nothing. but ned can use it as a blacklist for his plans to lock certain people out?

Indeed he can, along with @blacklist and @blacklist-a (im on blacklist-a)

Not much, chain wide, but here on "steemit.com" itself, they respect the mute code which hides people from your feeds - it may not even mute comments. It's basically like virtue signalling, people keep doing it, and the rest of us just sort of roll our eyes and mock them.

Oh right, yeah I see spammers muting mack-bot, spaminator etc from time to time. That's not going to stop anything 😁

Anyway looks like you have been marked!!! 😂 keep both eyes open 👀

lol, I really fear exactly zero things :)

From what I have been reading Steem is very centralized. There where major issues with it and stuff called into question when it was first launched.

Oh that's a very true thing. And I've got reams of documentation about it.

Well @sircork, don't count me in on that exclusive list yet. I've checked and apparently I am not figuring on that Hall Of Fame just yet. But maybe soon, after have written this post tonight and if this elitist muting ends up becoming a trend.

Or maybe not. And I am still a too insignificant tiny weird crustacean of the abyssal fauna crawling way deep at the bottom of this ocean where my voice and the frequency of my chirping can't reach the heights where they feed themselves. ¿Who knows? If we judge by the amount of comments, interaction and upvotes/downvotes that I have previously obtained from them. I believe that my invisibility has always been more than assured. };)

bottom dwellers like you and me dont get muted... we are not important

Haha yeah, that may well be true my dear @nnnarvaez. But like a daredevil physicist, I must trust that the butterfly effect is an immutable truth. Indisputably we both are not gorgeous butterflies. But I bet that creepy raw-boned creatures crawling over the very bottom of this ocean can have the same chaos effect in no time without having to flap too much. };)

I see what you did there. :D

Ah YouAreHOPE. I know you are an attentive and acute observer. :)

You're a pretty guy, for a fly eye.

¿Ain't me cute? ;)

Just know that to everyone here you are not ignored. Keep speaking truth and people will learn.

Thank you. I do not know any other way to speak.

Excellent post, sircork. Newbie...

If you are calling me a newbie, I have to assume you don't really know what that means :D

No sir, I know you have been on here from the beginning; I should have either added "here" behind that, or not used that term at all! I love humor. I have been following you since I got here, and have been in and out of "jail". But slowly learning from a lot of quality people here, and you're one of them. I plan on sticking around for a while, broke: yes, but sticking around. Thanks, sircork!

Well there you go then :) Enjoy the ride!

Being a bit of a newbie the only other person I know on that list is Littleboy who is very outspoken at times.

Yeah, that seems to be the criteria, basically, say indefensible truths? get muted, gaslighted and marginalized. Or they try anyway. Luckily the remaining population is largely hip to who is a vapid shallow fraud around here and who isn't at this point. So there's that.

Jeepers! Muted @heimindanger - that says a lot. There might be reason for it but it's hardly presidential to block somebody that prominent and not have a very public reason-giving.
You're in good company on that list.

Great company, and it looks like embreyler has taken a page from the pansy-ass playbook, flagging random comments and posts of mine in response to being butt hurt because I pointed out something any high school level business class student would know on one of his ridiculous posts. It's cool though, many people have seen his pedantic behavior here and elsewhere. He's not gonna get out of the low end of the witness list based on brains, or backbone. That is making itself rather clear.

Thanks Cork for this info. Very interesting he did that.

Interesting? Or typical.. Note a few of us are even witnesses.... That should worry ANYONE.

Note the flagger on this comment who is butthurt because obvious things are beyond his meager grasp, much like dear Ned, so they censor, flag and mute, which only makes them look stupid, weak and foolish. Ironically the majority of people on this page will see it and laugh at him though.

I hear whaleshares.io, scorum and smoke are nice places to visit this time of year.

No experience of WS or Scorum, but I've been enjoying smoke.io very much - it seems to be a bit like Steem(it) must've been in the early days - organic interaction, no bots, no established culture of shitting on the system (yet). I do however see it as an addition to Steem - even more niche. I chuckle sometimes coz Steem seems almost mainstream now LOL.

Yeah, I've been a near daily pot smoker for over 30 years but I have absolutely no need or interest in blogging about something I consider about as interesting to talk about as what I had for breakfast. LOL

Enjoy the platforms you like. I am spread pretty thin with owning a non-blockchain company and what I do around here and all. I am on scorum pretty much only to play poker with people I know, and on whaleshares, so I can have a place to just be a regular guy ,once again with familiar friends, but I probably wont bother with too many others.

In other words. People with substance and backbone scare people like them, because we expose what integrity looks like and they don't really have much of it, in either case.

....'tis always the case, I'm afraid.

Steemit is collapsing, and lots have people have gone quiet.

Where would you suggest 'setting up shop', if this gets even smaller?

I'm not bailing out, at this time. But if you like sports, scorum is quite lively. If you like weed, smoke.io might be worth putting in your pipe, and if you prefer a general platform that feels a lot like steem did nearly 2 years ago? Whaleshares is doing some innovative twists on the fundamentals, like no bots or rep and flagging costs 3x mana what upshares cost, so some of the basics are not gonna happen like they did here.

cheers for the info - this sound worth a look at.

(sports and smoking as a lifestyle, died quite a while back, lol)

the scorum site sure doesn't look that way, it appears to be thriving. I use it for the poker games, but nothing else, cause Im a lifer computer jockey, not a sports guy at all. Im clueless about any balls but the ones I wash every day. As for smoking? Im a 3+ decade weed smoker, and cig smoker, and it hasn't died out, its getting legal everywhere so its simply less interesting to talk about or focus on, as with anything that is no longer prohibited. I will die out from smoking, before smoking dies out as a lifestyle tho :)

Im a 3+ decade weed smoker,

Too much trouble here... (like really bad trouble).

Hypothetically - of course - If I'd grown 6/8 plants in my cellar in the UK , for about 4 years, I'd have made a very comfortable living. ..
hypothetically, of course.
That would be illegal.

Smoking tobacco (roll yer own) is really cheap here though!
like, as in a four of dollars - for around an ounce.

Roll my own and buy a pack of the filter tips thingy's - it's fine!
I've been smoking forever.
I thought about exporting it, but I don't wanna get involved with customs/gvmnt issues.

it might be of value elsewhere, but I buy a pound (16 ounces) of loose tobacco for about $13.00 usd, and a box of 250 filter tubes for about $2.50. Remember, our country was basically initially built on tobacco though, my grandparents had 70 acres of it in Tennessee, right up until the time of their passing in the 80s.

These days, I live in the city which homes Phillip Morris, makers of world famous Marlboro cigarettes. The factory is about 10 miles from my apartment. :)

Great post @sircork it's good to know you're not planning on leaving. I've been reading through all these comments which are as informative as they are entertaining. I was born and raised in Knoxville, then did the NorCal thing for a decade and now find myself in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia making real life contacts here with the established local steemians. I'm new but I'm no dummy, and am more than aware this platform isn't a utopia but it does have a great deal of potential. Frauds always eventually expose themselves and even the biggest players on Earth collapse under their own weight. I get the sentiment that an asset is basically being passed around here out of tolerance for shitposts that have little appeal to people out in the real world and fear tactics and circle jerks dominate this economy. But, in the big picture the whales of the crypto world are piss ants to the Bezos and actual movers and shakers. In a few years perhaps some investors that aren't concerned about profiteering alone will tap into the true potential that exists in this currently idealistic infantile experiment. Cheers

so am i a fool for buying more steem?

well, I put in $3,000.00 USD or so of my own money since I got back from my trip to Lima, Peru for SteemFiesta in October. So if you are a fool so am I, and it sucks it's now worth half what it was, but I figured it was worth a shot. I've made a bit of money here and was wise enough to pull most of it out last December when things were at a zenith in the apogee. Are we on the way down forever, or will we come back up? I mean I don't have a crystal ball, and it's true, that all markets are down. But damn, sam, i don't see much going on that makes me feel like it's a sure thing. Only time will give us this answer.

SMTs were due in 2018. Not here. Due in first quarter of 2019 now. We failed at hardforking pretty hard and so I'm not thrilled with the chances for the next deployment to be much smoother, when and if it ever comes. In the meantime, other platforms basically already have them or something equivalent enough to them.

Now we all hear about this "destiny" thing, but not hearing much about SMTs anymore. This should alarm anyone. Lack of focus, lack of delivery, and lack of quality, while tuning out user needs and experience, all the while bleeding off our best and brightest?

I won't make a hard and fast prediction, but I'm not going to load up any more of my personal cash till I see if the 3K I just put in ever becomes more than the half of that it's worth now.

I'm not convinced SMTs are as big a deal as they're made out to be. MAYBE they could be used for ICOs - but we know what a scorched landscape that is. And, only a few communities on STEEM are big enough to support the sized economies to make SMTs worthwhile. Those that are big enough can probably marshall enough resource to make an SMT-like thing for themselves until it gets baked into the chain. Don't get me wrong, I reckon the opportunity is there for SMTs - they are a good thing to do. But there's a lot of other maybe better things that could be done too.

I'm actually completely against SMTs to be honest. We have an adoption problem in general in crypto already, so why add 1000 more confusing points of entry that are in disparity and fighting for traction in the markets.

Further, we use STEEM, I'm not even sure why we need SBD and pegging and all, i understand the "why" premise of commerce and usd pegging and all, but shit, can we make it any harder for Aunt Gertrude to use here please? What can we do with SMTs we couldn't do with widespread adoption of a single coin. BTC works pretty well at the places that accept it, they didn't need to make 1000 versions of it.

I made e-stores on shopify that accept steem OR sbd, and not a single made up out of thin air token nobody else uses anywhere else, was harmed in their creation.

sigh

Moot point anyway. Its all talk and no delivery so far, and now we're worrying about "Destiny" and shit, so are SMTs even going to ever appear? I have my doubts.

Speaking of adoption problems. Any chance of mailing some occassional packets of 10g PAMP to New Zealand? :)

That depends. Are you willing to pay more for shipping than buying it local? :D

On the scale on my kitchen counter right now...

In the Discord.

wow, thanks for the thoughts.... that sounds bleak, and i don't know much, but it still seems there a few worthwhile things happening behind the scenes. even if many things have been botched and development not what it should be, isn't the network steem has developed and proven still worth something itself? ... or is that falling behind the times as well?
peace

It's a solid chain, but it has to keep advancing and things promised this year, didn't materialize. And during that time, many developers who could help improve things, went elsewhere to more open, more genuinely decentralized systems.

Is it over? No. Am I sticking around? Yes, but not quite as tightly as I was, say 18 months ago.

Do you have some examples for more open, more genuinely decentralized systems? I would like to explore them too.

That's a bit of a conundrum these days.
