True that Steemit is more like Medium and Reddit mixed together, than a social media platform like Facebook. However, there seems to be a tendency for Steemit members to want Steemit to become a new Facebook (especially with all the latest news). In my opinion, it is way more of a publishing site or personal journal, like you mentioned. There is a lot to still do on Steemit to become a better platform and I think that is why it is still in beta. But I mean, great things take time, right? So, I'm giving Steemit time and meanwhile loving the community feeling it provides :)
