@whoib gave you a technically correct answer. I think better advice is simply to engage in conversations wherever possible. If you get too formulaic about this you will not have any fun. If you just converse with people, the curation rewards will come.
I would say, using the "new" tab, read as many articles as interest you. When one does, upvote it and engage in conversation with the author about what interested you about it!
