I think a big hurdle to tackle increased membership would be Combining a couple of the apps, and steering away from the Suggested content when first joining.
Tie the logistics of "Steemnow.com and the Steemiy messenger and Update the messenger to include a more user friendly Forum board that could be moderated by Steemit users who have achieved a certain level of experience (possibly based of SteemPower percentage.) Who can directly assist newer users down a successful path here. There's tons of minor things that stabilize, and maintain newbies, and retention efforts. Obviously users who are more Tech Savy overlook the challenges facing the users who lack the skills to be successful.
And clearly that destabilizes the platform. The #Steemit Veterans and the Coders clearly benefit from this , but ultimately are shortchanging themselves and the potential revenue, and Hollowing out the Growth potential.
Why is that I'm sure your thinking.
Far to much short term vision. Investments are always the responsible means of solidifying a Productive stable future.
The larger number of people we can draw in, and provide the tools and knowledge to TEACH them to be sucessful (all the while spreading the Rewards) the better all of our chances increase to Create and EARN MORE.
We all want something, as a team lets put our best foot forward together.
