We have all seen the rise of different social media sites in only a short span of time. I remember way back when Facebook was in it's early dawn. It was when my peers back home kept on introducing me this site with a platform that has the same content and appeal with Myspace.com or Friendster.com , only bland and deserted - Facebook.
Far from the site that allows you customization of one's individual profile. But how did it became one's daily dose of quotable quotes from Abraham Lincoln or cute cat videos or the public announcement of a friend's break up? It's precisely because it put great emphasis on how young people experience social interaction online. It was engaging people's day to day lives. Facebook grew fast and grew to this size was down to the way they offered out their service, they started with young people and due to this made a product that was anticipated by the media and worldwide internet users.
Fast forward to the present day, the age of digital life and to even digital currency. It is not a far thought how one can think of setting a social media network onto a cryptocurrency platform - It is by far an ingenious way to set people and help them from their online lives to their real lives.
I live in a country where we are ranked number 1 globally in terms of time spent on social media. On average 4 hours and 17 minutes are spent online by my fellow men. Majority of this demographics come from the younger generation, AKA millennials. If only this time could be harnessed into a real world value. Now we can!
Steemit has the potential to bring young people into the world of currency trading and at the same time bring in social interaction among peers. The active millennials have the driving force to influence how society can fully maximize social media networking. Steemit not only brings people together but also tries to thrive on their potentials by introducing the world of cryptocurrency. In the months to come more and more will join this network and more and more will see the value of a person's presence online. Steemit, if handled very well be able to harness this and make a real world application out of it.
A community where you're not only making friends but you are paid to do so. This may be a start of something big and I am glad to be a part of this growing community.

The Facebook-Steemit comparisons were interesting to read - and I certainly agree that there is plenty of potential in this platform.
At the same time I do not get the impression that Steemit wants to 'be' facebook. Its model is different.
There also is some way to go in terms of difficulty curve and guidance so that Steemit may prove truly newbie accessible - but members' dedication helps to bridge this gap.
