Comment without vote: is there a new trend on Steemit or is it just another rude way to beg attention?

in #steemit8 years ago

Some days ago I read a content about this new "trend" here (sorry, I don't remember the author): some people comment the contents without upvote them.

At first I was suprised, because I've never notice this thing before and I thought it was really strange. Maybe some "random" omissions? Maybe some strategy that I can't understand?

I can understand when the comment that I wrote is to say that the author is a plagiarist or something similar, because in that case, sure, I don't upvote the content (usually I flag plagiarist).

I can understand if someone who wrote nice comment on a post sometimes forgotten to upvote the content. It happens, we all are humans (with some bots ^_^) and  because of this I prefer to upvote a post before to comment ^_^

I admit, however, that I can't understand why some people (usually with low reputation) write fast comment with nice words (for example : "Nice post. Upvoted" or simply "Very interesting content, awesome! etc" ), but they don't upvote! Why?

My explanation is that they are just begging attention, because it's probably that reading a nice comment the author upvote the comment or decide to read/upvote the contents of this person. They don't upvote because so they can use all their voting power just to upvote theirselves or other their own accounts and I tink it's a very bad strategy!

In these days I found one of this person and so I investigated!

At first, this person comment one of my contents just 1/2 minutes after the pubblication. This is not strange, but In that minutes I had just 3 upvotes, none by this person. I thought that he commented before to upvote (usually after about 30 minutes) . It didn't. Strange.

The same for another content few hours later. Well, it couldn't be a rare omission, this is a specific strategy.

Maybe they don't know that there are some tools like Steemstats.com where you can see who upvoted you content. Sure, I usually don't use it, because I'm not interested to know who voted my posts, but in this case it was useful ;)

I use the same steemstats to see "how" this person use the upvotes and I saw that he/she upvoted just few authors (without commenting!). Strange, very strange!

So, pay attention when you upvote a nice comment if it sounds to you strange, maybe it's a rude way to beg your attention/upvote.

See ya soon

It wasn't me was it??? Sometimes I miss one by mistake!

Not you, dear friend :) mistake happens, we are humans, but for someone it is not a mistake, it's a strategy. ;)

Upvote beggars??? By the way... check my last post- I think it's a scam!

mm, too much gaming in this system

Some people think to make simple money doing nothing and the don't help in the distribution of the earnings.

@silviabeneforti I was waiting to your reply but you did not reply, after that i checked that posts on which i commented, I saw that Some of your post were such on which i did only comment. But i really did not know about it. Perhaps it had become my habit. I do not comment and uovote to your post with this intention so that i can get it too from you. By the way good post If you do not share it then I do not know about it.

Sorry, @coolbuddy , but I have many comments to reply and sometimes I miss some of them. I'm glad that you don't comment/upvote with this intention. Steemit is a cozy community and it works because everyone of us (or the most part of us) helps in the distribution of earnings. Maybe there are some good explanation when somene comment without vote, but use this as a strategy is always a bad thing, this is my thought.

@silviabeneforti Not it all, I can understand that you're busy. Thanks for reply. I was thinking something else.

I make about 50 comments a day and I upvote less than 1/4 of those. I keep my power up and try to maximize curation rewards so I cannot upvote everywhere I comment.

On steemit, the average post gets only 3 comments. Therefore I feel like my engagement is helping the post even if I do not upvote. But I am not commenting with "Nice post!" type words. Instead I try to engage with the author or the other commenters.

Engage people help to have more upvotes. If someone engage a nice conversation with the author of the post, in the most of the cases the author vote the comments or the postes of this people. So the author helps you to earn something, especially if that author have an "important" voting power. Sorry, but for me it's just a way to have more upvotes on his/her contents and he/she doesn't help the distribution of the steem in this community.

Everything is true in this post. Sometimes i also did it. I commented to some users post but didn't upvote but i did such with those who used to do it with me even i do not have great steem power but when i checked them i found that they were minnows. It was the truth of mine. Now when i read the blog and i like that blog then i upvote first then comment.

good post I really like it as regards miss me

Sorry, maybe you don't understand what I wrote about people who use comment without upvote and you're copy/pasting the same words on many many different contents. I invite you to read my post about spam comments: https://steemit.com/steemit/@silviabeneforti/some-tips-for-newbies-and-my-approach-on-steemit . Pay attention, some steemians may considered a comment like this as spam and they can flag you. The next time I'll flag you!
