You just have to keep publishing and make sure you are also interacting with other people's posts. Steemit uses different algorithms than Facebook does. When you are new or don't have a lot of followers, it can be difficult to gain traction. Another thing is that you need to write for the Steemit community to earn currency. Even if you get visits because your post shows up in a search engine, this does not translate to earning Steem. You need to focus on stories that the Steemit community will enjoy. Cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence are probably overcovered topics on here. I might select another category of news to cover.

I agree 85 %, taylor (ps. I follow you now). I don't think AI and its respective fields machine learning and deep learning are overcovered topics on Steemit.
Some of the things people engage with mostly here on steemit are 'introduceyourself', 'food', 'travel', ..
So, not niche at all.
But, gradually I will inject here more academic stuff. ;)
