Lately, I uploaded a blog post about artificial intelligence (AI). More specifically, this one:

I wrote it here on Steemit and shared it also in a Facebook group called "Artificial Intelligence & Deep Learning". While it performed really bad on Steemit, it got kinda viral on FB, because it was shared 24 times and obtained lots of likes.
A lot of knowledgable people from the field of AI assured me this is a quality post. And, I believe the reason for the blog post to perform so differently on social media is that I didn't wrote the article targeted enough. To be more precise, I use a lot of jargon to keep the text concise, short, and sweet. Facebook's group is full of AI experts and therefore they understood quiet quickly how valuable this post is.
On the other hand, there wasn't even an AI tag before, let alone a deep learning tag (which is a subfield of AI). Consequently, Steemit is not as niche as the FB group.
I think the content itself is very interesting to most of the people, since it is so much cutting-edge and surrounds us more and more. But, it needs to be written in a much more colloquial way and maybe including a storyline to be more tangible.
Am I completely wrong on this or did I oversee something? If you have any idea on how to tackle this issue or have any comment on this, then let me know. I would highly appreciate it.
And, what are your strategies to get your content out there?

your facebook networking account is probably older in age than your steemit account. Also steemit in age is much younger than facebook in age. These factors definitely play a part.
The value of Content is what it is. The markets decide daily which content is the most valuable.
Is the price valuation of content 'fair'? It is a fare. Meaning one's investment is always a price that is shared. And that's the whole point here. It's not a sharing to "get"...it's a sharing "because you got it to give" and you want to.
This mentality is an effective way to grow, connect and expand networking cultures of community. Creating diversity.

Steemit only works if you put in daily work. Your example is certainly not the same for me. While I have a strong network on Facebook my posts are recognized MUCH MORE on Steemit. I always cross-post on both platforms and Facebook doesn't even show all my articles to my friends. Don't expect good payouts for quality posts while you are still so young on this platform. I work every day 18 hours on Steemit and after over two months I am finally getting somewhere. Put in the hard work and expect to make ZERO for the first weeks.

Yes, for two months I work all-day long here. Currently I try to do four articles a day on three different accounts. And I already plan number five. I made it to the top 200 authors last week. Doesn't feel like it since I have never cashed out even a cent but that will change by the end of the month. I plan to my rent from this.

I personally would also like to do that, but I don't see that happening. I am working as a computer scientist in my own (co-founder and CTO) company Natural Language Processing company.
Ideally, I would like to push only articles that contain good and valuable content.

I am planning to do an app that uses language processing. The app is supposed to understand and communicate with the user. Most important feature is an analysis of phonetics for the entire English dictionary (and hopefully many more languages). A deep-learning algorithm in the back shall make it smarter with every use. Is that something your company does?
Sounds interesting. We partner with the publishing industry to basically provide customer-specific newsletters. Not so much of phonetics.
A comment to the algo: I figured out that an online-learning algorithm (an algo that learns while usage) can be extremely hard to get working. Often it makes more sense to just re-train it every now and then.

You also just started on the platform. On facebook, all those likes are worth nothing. Now, I post everything on STEEMIT, and post the links on my fb, twitter, etc. When I started posting late last year, I was lucky to make 10 cents some times. My last few posts have netted several hundred dollars. If you post good quality stuff, in time you will build a following here.

You just have to keep publishing and make sure you are also interacting with other people's posts. Steemit uses different algorithms than Facebook does. When you are new or don't have a lot of followers, it can be difficult to gain traction. Another thing is that you need to write for the Steemit community to earn currency. Even if you get visits because your post shows up in a search engine, this does not translate to earning Steem. You need to focus on stories that the Steemit community will enjoy. Cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence are probably overcovered topics on here. I might select another category of news to cover.
I agree 85 %, taylor (ps. I follow you now). I don't think AI and its respective fields machine learning and deep learning are overcovered topics on Steemit.
Some of the things people engage with mostly here on steemit are 'introduceyourself', 'food', 'travel', ..
So, not niche at all.
But, gradually I will inject here more academic stuff. ;)

One thing to realise is that Steemit, for the most part, isn't about people liking what you've written, because most people will upvote without even clicking on it. Most people are just going to look at the thumbnail, the title, your reputation score, the money earned so far VS the number of votes, and make a decision on whether it's worth voting based on those.
Only a few take the time to actually read here. That's kinda what money does, whereas Facebook presumably is full of like-minded individuals you've befriended over time.
So here, you need to do a lot of R&D about how to maximize the viewership of your work by the right people. I suggest the STEEMSTEM tag, that'll get you started! (we've already noticed you)

Steemit is like Facebook while Myspace was all the rage. Back in 2006, hardly anyone used Facebook, now people ask "What's MySpace?" or "What's Napster?". It seems hard to believe another generation will be saying some day "What's Youtube?" and "What's Google?"
The blue line is interest in MySpace, the red line is interest in Facebook. Myspace was overtaken April of 2008. Steemit is not even out of Beta yet, and already has a viberant community. I see great things for Steemit in the future. @ironshield
