One Of The Biggest Advantages Of Steemit... It's 100% Free

in #steemit6 years ago

There is a problem with blockchain apps at the moment, you have to pay to try a lot of them out. Take cryptokitties for example. You need to buy a kitten and pay a fee to send the coins needed. I do not want to pay to see if it works and that is the same for cars, or planets or whatever item you want to use. These sites are not scams but that entry point really is a big deal. And if it is part of a social media site it is an even bigger deal.

We are just starting with dapps and, as expected with any new tech, people are going to be suspicious to try them. I don't blame them, I am the same way. There are a few I passed by because I didn't want to send the coin or buy the coin. I just want to sign on and play or post. And if I like it maybe I will buy some of the coin.

And that is the biggest advantage of steem. You want to try it out, its free. You want to send steem? Free. Post? Free. You get the point. The site is free to use for anyone. You can buy guys if you want more voting power but if not you can still use the site and make the coin. It is this free model that is a huge advantage to this site and it is this model that is needed if crypto is going to go mainstream.

We just need time and and better marketing. Still lot of people have never heard for Steemit...

For sure, there is a long way to go.

Yes, you are very right, we need to let many people to know about steemit by introducing it to our friends and families.

Yup, one way to think about steemit is a platform that is 100% free to use and doesn't sell your data or spam you with ads

I believe the adoption will take place when cryptocurrency is more known in the market. The rapid adoption of Steemit will take place when popular social media bloggers start to use Steemit. All their users will then follow them to the Steemit platform. I think it would be worth the investment for Steem to pay popular Youtubers to use Steem so they can attract their users.

Yeah @whatageek, that is why I am shocked to see that Steemit is still not mainstream. Also I am guessing that if cryptokitties would be build on top of Steemit SMTs they would be free to try :)

Average adult whom claim they know everything: "There nothing free in this world!"
Me: Ever Heard of Steem? Yeah thought so.

one of the biggest problems with people if u give them something for free ... is they want more...

for example if u tell them this book cost 1000$ they will be like its so costly... n if u tell them take it for free they will be like... give me 2 then :p

The fact that it was free to use and not pay and register made people loved it in the first place in fact it made it better because at the time of the inception of steemit, there was a lot of scam on the internet.

Trying something new with fee is indeed quite suspicious but sometimes, we have to pay the price for the change. People will be used to it eventually but if the fee can be removed then that could be good as well.

That's the appeal..
You don't have to invest in steem to make profits

To a certain extent you do. Personally, I invested in Steem power and that helped tremendously. I couldn't even imagine with starting with no money. It's still possible to grow obviously with amazing content.

Disregarding the money offered on Steem, it's a great place to learn about an industry. The amount of free information you are given on here is incredible. You are getting paid to attain information and also contribute information which is AMAZING.

GO STEEM!

If you can invest then that is best for you as well as steem. But not all of us can.
And I perfectly content with what I've achieved without investing. Just look at the alternatives and Steem is better in every way

It’s still possible to make money without investing which is the great part about Steem.

Dunno, I'm more a proponent of people investing something to the community and not just trying to chase dollars.

Trust me I would if I could

"You don't have to invest..........." - Man, I am not so sure about that. I might not have invested fiat here but a significant portion of my time goes on the platform here. Sure I want to buy more coins that I like - if I had the money, but that isn't the case. My time is what I have and that's what I am trying to use here.

I think time is an investment here and I am pretty sure a lot folks feel that way. In fact understanding that allows me to be more conscious of using it more efficiently here. Still the bottom line is that I am grateful that the platform allows me the opportunity to earn without spending fiat :-)

It is free and that is a fact. Still it requires an investment and that is how value is essentially generated here.

I agree ..
Actually time is also an investment.
Time is money

yes I face this,,thanks fo important post

At first, I think Steemit is was a fraud platform, I dont have money to invest still yet am still making few dollars..

now what do you think? Is Steemit a fraud to you still?

Aw, I dunno about free. It costs time and attention - two rare coins these day.

Right on.

True but it needs to become a lot easier to use in order to become mainstream and it also needs to make some other adjustments like doing something about making the gap between whales and minnows a bit smaller...I've been here for over a month now, posted a lot of things and none of my posts even reached $5 dollars with most of them not even $0.1 and that's kinda frustrating when you see whales and dolphins posting average shit and making good money. I know, you invested a lot of money in it but still....

Completely understand your frustration, but you have the opportunity to grow on Steem. With quality content over time, you will do extremely well on this platform. No system is always going to be perfect, there will always be a higher up that has some advantage.

Yeah I know but when I see really shitty content making good money or even just five bucks it does bother me a lot. I know that my content ain't great, far from being great (I don't really have the time to create great content and probably I'm not even good enough) but it's still better than a lot of shit here...

honestly, it's not truly free. You either have to invest your time to curate or write interesting articles that are upvote worthy. The opportunity cost of your activities on steemit is the time that could be taken to work at a job. Steemit isn't by any means, free.

I think that Steemit will revolutionise the social media landscape. Remember when Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, Myspace and others were battling it out to become the next big thing in social media (which was non-existent) ?

i trury agree and besides that,Steemit is cool, fun and a way to earn some money writing content. When it grows into something bigger, it has the potential to become the ONLY source of income for most people, all just by writing! may God bless Dan

Agree with you this why steem is rocking and a best platform.

The other thing that is cool about Steemit is its a gateway to the novice to learn about and start using cryptos.

I've heard wonders of this platform and from what I've seen it seems to be true

I think Steemit will soon be one of the most used and successful platforms in the world, just wait

I think, Steemit is one of the few places that operate as a meritocracy. You can buy your way in, but the door will open for you without the exchange of hard currency.

I joined three months ago. I never gave anyone a penny. I was familiar with one person, with one account, that was largely inactive. That person, knowing I loved to write and explore new ideas, recommended I try Steemit. Since then, I have been helped by Steemians I never met and have no connection to. They liked my work and generously reached out to me.

Certainly, I have invested--my time and interest. But I never used coin and I never used influence. I may be naive, but so far this has been a rewarding experience. And it's free.

Of course Steemit does not offer a level playing field. There are those who have enormous influence, relative to me and other Steemians. But I don't concern myself with what they have--I look at what I might get. There's a real possibility I might make some money, and without investing a penny.

I think of all the time some invest in FB, without any material reward. I think of all the time I've personally spent on Twitter, with the only incentive of having an audience. Steemit offers the audience and the possibility of making money. It offers something else: the chance to engage meaningfully with people who share my interests.

You're right, @whatageek, Steemit's distinct virtue is that it offers opportunity and it doesn't require a hard currency investment. I'm already working on my next piece.

I always tell people, don't worry it's free. They say wait no there must be a catch lol

Amazing platform @whatageek. We all hope it will be applied and make steemit better !!
