To full Steem node or not? Help boost steem's and steemit's infrastructure/Zeartul 5k and Silverstacker

neil-gowland-serverroom2.jpg

The last couple of days steemit has been having issues with overload and DDOS attacks many nodes seem to be down.
When this happends I go to this nifty site to check on the status on the.

Steem Servers

Since I am running a witness server and I also run bellyrub both use steem's blockchain and servers I now think it is a time for @zeartul to set up a full blown Node server to help out with the load on steem and steemit.

In doing so it would take some load off and help with all functions I will be in contact with @someguy123 to get this up and running with in a weeks times.

The infrastructure of steem steemit needs more nodes if you have the resources I would suggest you set you up.

Side Note: You might have also noticed your drafts are not getting saved or even posted and your work is lost.

This is again due to the recent DDOS attacks and nodes failing. Make sure to save your work. another fast way to make sure your work is not deleted is You can also right click on the post tab, top right and click "open link in new tab" That would open up a copy of your post, just in case the one you submitted did not post. you can than try again.

@timcliff Made a post yesterday - Attention Steemains - Save your posts before clicking the submit button! Go read it.

Server Specs Needed for a RPC Node

CPU 6 core/12 thread Xeon
RAM 256GB DDR4 ECC
Disk 2x500GB SSDs
Network 1gbit/s from Germany

If you would love to help put steem and steem to help it run more smoothly go on ahead and vote for my witness @zeartul by going here https://steemd.com/witnesses

You can also help by sending donations, to help out with the set up server costs, since at the moment it will be straight out of pocket. with being witness # 73

Some exciting news below recap of success post.

I am super stoked I finally hit 5K Steem Power, when I look back though that 5K could of been 10K, there are no regrets though none. Holding steempower is my end goal.

Bellyrub has 3,000 Steem Power

Something interesting though is 90% of SP has been earned by curating (running the bot itself).

Earning almost 10K with both accounts has been a nice journey and it will only keep getting better through here on out.

Are you powering up?

As far as Steemit goes I believe in this platform, I had a discussion with another member on here about Steemit is still in Beta and we seem to forget that. We are the testers we are the ones who are testing this damn wonderful site!

Witness

I have learned so much being on here and as well running my witness node and also running @bellyrub, The knowledge I am getting being on here is priceless. This platform has over 400K accounts but I say close to 30K-50K are truly active. Wow the numbers seems a bit odd but it sure does seem like it.

My Eden wallet:

could get better, still working on it.

I got these in the mail two days ago:

SQLBkOk.jpg

They came out great and only 1500 were minted and was only able to pick up 10... A bit sad but I still got a piece of steem/steemit history.

Any Private sellers?

Love seeing the steem infastructure grow everyday and thanks for all your hard work

In the list I see 6 servers. There are many witnesses, isn't each witness maintain a server?

Also would you add an AWS calculator result for the mininal spec?

From my check its around 3000STEEM per month just holding the server... is that profitable?

AWS is rather expensive and I wouldn't recommend it for this purpose.

RPC nodes do not make any money, you might get some income from posts about it, or use your income if you're a witness.

So there is no motivation to contibute resources... how might the platform encourage resource contributors?

Good explanation.
Thanks for sharing :)

It is wonderful to see the update and, you are right, steemit is in beta stage. There are 400K (30K or so active) who are the test subjects. There is a lot of information being learned by the development team. I know @ned and others have huge plans for steemit. We are nowhere near the end of innovation but, rather, the beginning.

To me, we are already passed Reddit in terms of functionality since that is just a linking site. At some point, I believe the developers will put Facebook in the crosshairs. I hear some type of community feature is coming next...that will be amazing.

Thanks for all you do @zeartul.

@zeartul Thank You again for making STEEMIT better by putting so much work and effort into being a Great Witness and also explaining to others what can be done to help make for a better experience.

An excellent explaination, thank you

@papa-pepper is selling some...am trying to gather some dough too buy one too... ;]

great explanation and very useful tip about opening a new tab before posting.. one thing I find interesting is.. in who's interest is it to perform DDos attacks on steem ? If I put my detective hat on there could be quite a few suspects.. this is one for Columbo !! i didn't realise only 30-50k users were active on steemit. what a small group of explorers.. excellent, you can have my witness vote @zeartul, even if I seem to read it as tearful ! :)

Any idea why we’re being DDOSed? Is this from a set ip range we could just block, or could cloudflare be used?

Why steemit is being attack? Good question but I would think it is because folks are making money here.

How about a decentralized cloudflare service?

I guess there are decentralized alternatives although they’re not as good yet and many aren’t too well tested.

nice post let me resteem

@zeartul - Very nice. The initiatives you are taking are really noteworthy and I will try my best to support. I am already voting for your witness. I have sent a donation just now. Small but I hope to contribute more in future. Steem on dear friend.

Thanks for all you do for the platform!

Thanks for your Support @zeartul

I don't really understand how this works yet so thank you for all that you do for Steemit.

incredible clarification and extremely valuable tip about opening another tab before posting.. one thing I find intriguing is.. to who's greatest advantage is it to perform DDos assaults on steem ? In the event that I put my criminologist cap on there could be many suspects.. this is one for Columbo !! I didn't understand just 30-50k clients were dynamic on steemit. what a little gathering of voyagers.. great, you can have my witness votehttps://steemit.com/@abdullatifphadia

great article.. super inspiring my mate.. upVoted & resteeMed

thanks for the information. I yesterday also experienced post failed. hopefully steemit can flourish and be resistant to attack.

I am also considering setting up a full node. Once the node is up, I would like have a look at the config files ... it will be helpful if you can share.

Much appreciated I found the solution I was searching for yesterday in Bitconnect center. You could have send that connection. At any rate My activity's done

good information

good initiative @zeartul ;) you have a lot of work to do to set up and manage the node good luck

Love the shirts. Thanks for sharing this with us because I seriously thought it was my computer doing weird things, but I guess it is Steemit that is having problems. When you mention @timcliff post about saving your post before you press that post button because that happened to me yesterday when I made a post that took me 2 hrs disappear and I had to do it again, so today I saved my post before posting it and good thing I did, because it did it again.

Great posting

Hi @zeartul, great work!

We are growing step by step and soon we hit 500000k User. Hope we get some more active ones.

I post every week the #BeerSaturday and recommend the use of @bellyrub as a good way to boost the weekly post around beer and fun.

Love to meet you at steemfest

It's quite amazing just how much computing power sites like this need to run, no doubt the growing user base is impacting the site just as much as outside attacks are. Congratulations on getting 10k Steem Power between you and Bellyrub - that's incredible.
