Things can change very quickly

After Luan went to bed his mother told his father all about the little boy Jared, that Luan told her about.

She said Luan was so sad, as he always lives in a happy world and never realised that there were children who lived like Jared. We must help this child, and Luan knows he is very lucky so I am not worried about that.

I think it is time that he learns that there are people who are not so lucky, and this little boy sounds like the perfect child to teach him with.

I will go to school tomorrow and find out everything I can about Jared from the teacher without Luan knowing. The next morning Luan went to school on his bike with his friends. They asked him if he was happy with Jared helping with the project and he said yes, why not.

They told him Jared was not very friendly and very quiet. Luan said then we must change that, and find out why? They all looked at him and said you are perfectly right maybe he is just unhappy.

We all live here and enjoy everything together, but he lives quite a way from here and might not have many friends there. Luan said nothing and just thought to himself he will do anything to help Jared and he was not telling them about his problems.

Luan’s mother went to the school later and spoke to the teacher in the principal’s office. The teacher said she knew that Jared did not have a mother, but did not know that his father worked away and that Jared was alone sometimes.

I must tell this to the welfare she said.

Oh no please do not, he really is such a sad boy do not take him away from his father who is really trying his best. Let me get to know him first, we could come to a compromise with his father and he can always stay with us when his father work away.

He is coming for the weekend so he and Luan can make their school project that will give us some time to find out more and see if we can help at all. The teacher said, he really is a nice boy, he does not laugh a lot but he does all his work well and never give me any trouble.

Maybe that is why I did not realise what was going on in his life. When she got home his mother phoned Jared’s father and told him about the project they had to do for school and wanted to know if Jared could come to them for the weekend.

Jared’s father said I will bring him, as I have a long way to go over the weekend with a delivery, it will be wonderful for him as well as for me.

So everything worked out nicely. Because he said he would bring Jared himself Luan’s mother was very happy as she knew he wanted to make sure that his child would be safe.

That meant a lot to her. Friday after school Luan was like a Jack in a Box, waiting for Jared to arrive.

When he did his father came inside to meet his parents and thanked them for looking after him for the weekend. He normally took Jared with on these long trips, but he really thought it would be much nicer for Jared to make a friend.

He had coffee with them and told them that Jared’s mother died at his birth, and he has been doing everything by himself, they do not have other family. That is terrible Luan’s mother said, you poor man that must have been very hard work.

Luan and Jared was in his room going through all the pictures he took and decided what to use and what not. Jared’s father said yes it was difficult but if not for him, I would have given up on life long ago. Why Luan’s father asked, you are still young and have a whole lifetime ahead of you. I do now with Jared, but when I lost my wife I did not feel like living.

I have tried everywhere for another kind of work so that I could spend more time with Jared, but it is difficult to find. Luan’s father said what did; you do, before driving these enormous Lorries.

He laughed and said I was a security guard at a big firm, but that was just night duty all the time so I had to find something else and this is all I could do.

Luan’s father smiled and said we have an opening at our firm for a security guard during the day in our car park, would you be interested at all. It comes with a house, and it is near the school. "It does not have a wife," Luan’s father joked.

Jared’s father could hardly believe that things could change so much in one day. He said without a doubt as the house we live in now is not very good and the rent is very high.

It seems that things are getting better for Jared already without him knowing.

We will see tomorrow where everything is going and hopefully people who read the whole story will enjoy it.
