Is it wrong, to be an only child?

Although being an only child does not constitute a "disease", everyone recognizes that this type of child has particular problems: he is fragile, capricious, timid, tyrant with his family, has difficulties adapting to his classmates and does not join the group, and often reacts with bewilderment or rebellion, in the concept of an only child not only enters what it really is, but also the child who has only one sister or vice versa, and the youngest in the family, the child who He has been with the older brothers for many years.

Being an "only child" depends, sometimes, on chance or nature; but other times it is the parents who, for economic reasons (to give their children all the possibilities) or affective (to concentrate all their affection on him) decide to have only one child. In general, these parents have a very particular character, which shows that mothers of only children are very possessive and absorbing.

This child, when he lives basically with adults, who become his only point of reference, uses a vocabulary that is too rich, seizes ideas that do not fit with his age, and their customs, fun and life in general tend to look like to adults. Of quite possessive character, usually have an intellectual level higher than normal for their age. All this differentiates him from the group, provoking the rejection of others towards him, he does not fit in and he does not know how to overcome this unexpected problem: that others do not accept it.Source

They have difficulties in their emotional relationships with others. By not having siblings, an essential element in the development of the child as a social being, the only child tends to isolation and to create excessive unions with his mother, an offspring of which he often feels insecure.

Throughout childhood there may be more or less complications, but the real conflicts arise in adolescence. Some unique children continue to relate to their parents in a child, dependent and submissive plane; others, on the other hand, rebel against excessive family protection and claim the freedom and independence that corresponds to them because of their age, sometimes resulting in violent ruptures and total separations with their parents.

Statistics show that the prospects are certainly daunting about character alterations in the only child. What is certain is that they seem to be more unstable, more emotional, more angry and more aggressive than others, with more difficulties to adapt to school discipline and coexistence with the group.

In any case, if you are the father or mother of an only child you do not have to be discouraged. Everything will depend on the education that is given, which does not have to be neither more rigid nor more condescending than what it would have if it had other brothers.

Hello that is a very interesting article im working un childcare industry and you can easily guess who is an only child via they behaviour.

Thank you for this article. It's quite informative. But I can only partially agree with the idea. Because sometimes parents can decide to have the only child not because of economical reason. For example, what if the woman have got married at her late 30s and she is just worried about her health and is afraid of having a second child after her 40s...

I loved your publication, mainly because I had to make the decision of whether to stay with my only daughter or have another one, I think I made the right decision, since my daughter has her brother and her brother has her She, it is very beneficial for both, nevertheless I believe that the upbringing of a unique child should not be different from the one of several brothers. Equal you have to teach the values and criteria that make a person of good and happy during his life. Greetings and thanks for sharing!!

When a child is isolated, it is good as they are able develop as an individual, and I did that, but on the other hand, if a kid is an only child, maybe that child needs to join more clubs.
