Once upon a time, there was a town that was known throughout the land for its rich treasures. It was said that the town was once a wealthy kingdom, and so gold, jewels, and other ancient treasures were buried underneath every inch of its soil. It was later confirmed that a giant gem was hiding somewhere beneath the town, urging collectors, merchants, and all sorts of men to visit the town to try their luck.

In the same town, there lived a beautiful and kind little girl named Eunice. Her father was a lumberjack and her mother was a housewife. They chose to live a simple life despite all the jewelries and gold they had saved since they lived there. For Eunice's parents, these things are not necessary for them to have a good life. They had each other, and for them, it was all that mattered.

Eunice was a very gentle and sweet young girl.  Very polite and well-mannered, as her parents had taught her and raised her to be so. She never lied nor disobeyed her parents because she loved them so much. She was a daughter anyone could ever wish for.

Not far from their house lived the oldest resident of their town. He was a wizard, and it was said that he was the first one to had lived there. They didn't know anything about the old man, except for the fact that he was strange, and that he despised having visitors from foreign lands who only wanted to dig their little town.

But the wizard was very fond of Eunice. Everyday, the little girl would come by his tiny hut to say "hello" or to bring him some food. They would talk for hours about his childhood and Eunice would sit and laugh at his silly stories of adventures. When its time to go home, the wizard would send her away with a torn piece of parchment. Eunice didn't understand why, but she'd kept the pieces in a special box as one of her treasures.

And then one day, after one her visits, the old wizard said as he handed her another piece,

"This is the last one. Now, I can finally rest.  You are a very special girl, and your parents are very lucky to have you. It was an honor to have met you, Eunice."

The little girl was confused, but she felt like it was goodbye. She embraced the wizard and went home with a heavy lump on her chest. The next day, she ran to see the wizard, but he was no longer there. Even his house had disappeared, and instead, a beautiful meadow sat right exactly where it once stood.

Eunice went home in tears that day, for she knew that her friend has left her. She remembered every story that he had shared with her, and wished he was happy wherever he was.

For years, she visited the meadow in remembrance of her old friend. While everyone around her were still trying to find the hidden gem. Then one day, she remembered the pieces of parchments that she'd kept in her special box. She took them out and tried to figure out what they meant.

Each piece had markings and drawings, like a map of some sort. She put the pieces together and found out what his old friend had been giving her for all those years. The giant gem.

She told her parents everything, and they felt proud that their only child was entrusted with something so precious. They knew what they must do.

Using all the jewels and gold they'd saved, they built a new house right beside the wizard's meadow -- the place where the map was pointing at. It was where the gem was buried, and they've decided to guard it instead of taking it for themselves. They knew it was what the wizard had wanted. After all, no one ever deserved or needed to have that kind of wealth.

For years, the search went on, because everyone thought that finding the gem was the only thing that could make them happy. But Eunice and her family knew that the people will never find what they were looking for, unless they all stopped digging and learned to look around them. Because you see, the real gems are within ourselves, and with everyone that treasures us more than anything. And anyone who finds that is far more lucky than anyone who had a giant gem.

Well, for Eunice and her family, they were lucky to have found both.
