Indonesia has many regions, all of the area has its’ own special authentic food. One of the area which has a special food is Padang, West Sumatra.
Last Friday, there was a food festival at Berlian Lobby, Blok M Square – South Jakarta. This time, the food festival sold the food from Padang, West Sumatra. Unfortunately it would only held for 3 days, and this was the first day.
Here was the gate of the food festival.
Inside there were so many food tenants who joined here. Most of them sold Nasi Padang (Padang Rice) which had the authentic taste, they also used the coconut milk and the flavor was usually savory and also spicy. They also used the cloves as of the special recipe of their cooking ingredients. The dining area was located im the center of the stalls.
There were not many tables, but each was big and had many chairs. So it was up to 10 persons per table. The customers who came here was many because it was only held for 3 days.
After we walked and saw around, Mom decided to order Nasi Padang with Gulai telur in this food stall. Gulai telur was egg which had been boiled then cooked in a savory coconut milk based soup.
Here was where mom bought her order
Mom’s menu was only 15,000 IDR (around 1.1 USD). Here was her menu.
I chose a different menu with mom, but in another food stall which was located a bit near from our table. Mine was my favorite menu in Padang Restaurant, Nasi Padang Gule Otak (rice with vegetables and green chilli paste served with the cow’s brain which also cooked in a savory coconut milk base soup).
Here was the food
Mine’s price doubled Mom’s menu, it was 30,000 IDR (around 2.2 USD)
All of the foods' flavor was authentic, savory and extra spicy.
Most of the food stalls’ owners were all real came from Padang, but they sold their food in Jakarta. Many-many jajanan (snack) also sold here.
We also tried the authentic Padang cake, here was the food stall
Here was the bika padang cake that we bought
The price was 5,000 IDR each.
The flavor of the cake was not too sweet and also a bit savory. It made from coconut and had special leaves under, and all was baked and not fried.
Before we went home, we also bought some special cake. But this one was actually came from North Sumatra, it was lupis cake. Made from sticky rice then had the coconut outside, it was served with gula jawa (liquid red sugar).
We bought some to take home. The seller was preparing the liquid sugar for us. The price was 10,000 IDR for 3 pieces.
Here was when I opened it at home.
The flavor was sweet. But it was just ordinary. Once i had ever tasted a better lupis.
