At my recent Coin Shop Visit, I picked up an American Silver Eagle and a Gold-Plated American Silver Eagle.

Those ASEs are in great shape. Especially the silver one, it's been around almost 30 years!
Both are in great shape. The Silver one was in a plastic coin flip and it looks like it spent its whole time in it.
Man these look absolutely gorgeous. I am hoping 2018 to be the year for silver.
We are all hoping 2018 will be the year for silver. It has to break out some time - no better time than the present.
A curiosity: what was the difference (percentage) in price between the coins?
Same price. My local coin shop (LCS) sells the 'less than perfect' American Silver Eagles for $2 over spot. This is basically the coins that they buy from the public and are 'less than perfect'.
They will set aside graded, slabbed or proof versions at a higher price. They sell the 'new perfect' versions for a higher price.
