The New York Yankees and the Oakland A’s will take part tonight in a one game, “Win or Go Home” format in the American League Wild Card Game. First pitch is set for 7:08pm Central Standard Time and the game can be seen on National Television on ESPN. It will take place at Yankee Stadium in New York. The Yankees are huge favorites at -175 and the over/under is 8 runs. There is no rain in the forecast and it should be a nice night for baseball.
The Oakland A’s enter tonight’s game as a big underdog. They are a small market team that gets little respect and they are going up against the most famous baseball team ever. But they are not intimidated and are ready to shock the world.
Liam Hendricks gets the very difficult start at pitcher tonight. But the thing is, he is not a starting pitcher. He has only pitched 25 total innings this year and is most frequently used for around an inning or even less. This will be a group effort for the A’s and we may see as many as 8 pitchers go tonight for them.
There will be a lot of pressure on the A’s hitters to give them a spark. Outfielder Kris Davis led the team with 48 homeruns this year and if he can get a hold of one early, it would give them the assurance they will be looking for.
The Yankees will counter with Luis Severino on the mound. He has had a great year and won 19 games for the Yankees. Their bullpen is well rested and every pitcher will be ready to contribute, even if it is just for an out or two. It is all hands on deck.
Offensively, the Yankees are loaded. Stanton and Judge will put the fear of God into any pitcher and they both are fantastic homerun hitters. It will not be surprising if one of them rip a deep one tonight in front of the home crowd.
Yankee Stadium is going to be going crazy tonight. This is one of the best teams that they have ever had and they are stacked in every position. But Major League Baseball is a very funny thing and any team can pull an upset in a one game scenario. One swing of the bat can make all of the difference.
