There is one important key component to development and that is hunger. I am not simply talking from a physical perspective of wanting food on the table, but I am also talking about the psychological hunger to improve ones life. Once people get too full their motivation will wither and slowly a countries progress might follow.
When I came to China 15 years ago I witnessed a hunger I hadn't seen before. The eagerness of people to improve their financial situation was very impressive. In Sweden, where I came from, if for example something would break, it could take days before someone would have time to come to fix it. They would ask for a good price to fix it as well. In China when something breaks you basically just had to lift up your phone and someone would be knocking on your door within hours.
As we all know China is a communist country. Before it opened up to the outside, in the 1980s China was very far behind, and very poor in many aspects. Once Deng Xiao Ping opened the doors and said the words; "It doesn't matter if the cat is black or white as long as it catches the mice" a wave of change has swept over China that can't be compared to anything else in the world. From being a communist country where western objects and luxuries where rare it was suddenly available if you where willing to work for it. A switch was hit and the biggest population on earth started the race to a better future.
You are probably wondering why I am posting all these photos of this truck filled with Mandarins? Is it because it's also the language they Speak in China ? The reason is because the other day i passed by this truck and I started talking to the woman that was standing there selling this orange mountain. I asked her why there is so much Mandarins and where the Mandarins where harvested ? It is already winter here so I was surprised to see all these fruits. She told me the fruit had been driven from the very south of China where the climate is much warmer. She continued to explain that the season is already over here so she can sell them for a better price as the competition is much lower. I was impressed, and it's just one example of how people are always willing to work hard and to find opportunities to make some money.
In Sweden I think it would be hard to find anyone who would drive for three days to sell something. They would probably try to find someone else to do that for them. Someone who is more hungry. The fact is that if you look at the younger generation in Sweden a lot of people don't even agree to work at all. They stay at their parents place and play computer games and enjoys a relaxing life. Pretty darn boring if you ask me. I See dark clouds on the horizon because it seems that one big company after another is going bankrupt. Where did Ericsson Mobiles go ? What Happened with Volvo and Saab ? Well the two latter companies are bought up by Chinese. Will these companies have a better chance to survive in China ? Most certainly. I don't think there is anything wrong with the companies themselves. It's the people working for the companies that got too comfortable while other people where working around the clock. Why do they work around the clock ? Well the simple explanation is because they are more hungry.
I was not born with a silver spoon and I am very thankful for that. I learned early that if wanted something it was not simply going to be given to me, I would have to work for it. It's the way I want it to be, because in the end, what taste better than something you had to work hard for ?
Love your text. Everything you say is true. People are often too proud to do any work that is below their level of self-esteem to earn money because it has become too impotant for some people what others say about him/her. I think that is the root cause of many young people staying at home playing games rather than doing any kind of work.
You are definitely right ! I think we have a generation that needs to wake up to the fact that things are no longer going to be served to us - it's necessary to step up the game because competition is now international, and if you want something it's going to be challenging
I think for a person who is not born with a sliver spoon in their mouth has more grit and determination than a person who is born into a world where you can anything you want within a lift of a finger. When a person has a rich minded mindset the only they cannot have in life is nothing. Unless of course their wealth goes under.
From what I read about the Chinese languages the older generation also speak in Hakka too!
I completely agree with you, those not born with a silver spoon have more grit - and they are going to have a driving hunger that will make sure that they one day can give their kids what they didn't have. That's why it's no favor to give your kids everything they want
A lot of wealthy kids are too comfortable sleeping in cotton wool.
Great post from you sir @dandesign86. Exactly those kids born rich will tend to depend all their needs from their parents and thats the bad side of being rich. If one day being left alone they will surely suffer unlike those kids who we're exposed "how hard it is to do for living" will surely learn at early age and can stand in time for them to seek for their needs and in time that its their turn to take good care of their parents. (Im not saying all of them but surely most of them does). Being exposed to something whether your environment, culture or way of living( that you used to live)can influence your growth and being. Thank you sir for the content and God bless you.
Thank you for your awesome reply ! Yes some will surely have a hard time to deal with reality once they are all on their own
You're welcome sir. Its your post that is so inspiring. More post and God bless us all here in steemit sharing good thoughts for a positive outcome.
Thanks for this post.. Chinese are also well-known for their hardwork, doing businesses and invention. They teach there children to be like that. Many of them at the young age, have already business. Here in our country, lot of businesses owned by chinese. They are good example for others especially to the young ones of all nation, who most of them stayed in their house and playing games with their phone.
Yea they have amazing work ethic, and like you say they also spend a lot of effort to give their kids the best chance to be successful
Now my hunger been taking care of steemit for a month and half now. I need to work hard for it, so it would be valuable. Thanks for this thoughts @dandesign86.
Thank you Soulbella for stopping by ! And Steemit is also a great place which proves hard work pays off !
China is gradually coming forward a lot and technologically, China will move forward and once in a while, China will rule the whole world.
They are definitely moving ahead quickly, and with the political system they have they don't make 4 year plans, they make plans decades ahead .
Interesting article. I guessed Chinese have very low income and need to work super hard to be able to feed their family. Nowadays in Europe we have free healthcare and you will most likely receive money from the governement in the case you loose your job . In China I believe there is no healthcare and no one to help you out if you dont work. So they have no choice, than to work hard.
With the huge population here the competition is very high. But it's more than just wages being low. In China you are not only providing for yourself. You are thinking ahead to make sure you one day can buy a house for your kid and to help with their future. That's a huge other level of pressure and motivation.

Really great observation about hunger. It's a requirement for leadership that is often overlooked or often underestimated.
The best leaders know how to fuel your hunger or drive. We all can achieve pretty much anything we want. We just have to
Believe we can or find someone that believes in us enough
totally agree with you, @dandesign86 ... Hunger for a better world, better conditions, better food, better environment is the key to evolution, progress and growth :)
People that reach the top loose this drive, then there is only one way - and it's down . Staying hungry is good . Always make new goals
Very true. In the top people are only concerned with retaining their place. Growth is on their priority list ! Even when the stomach is full, mind should be hungry 😊!
