Perfecting Your Gaze (An Original Poem)

in #story3 years ago (edited)

Life, it
is weird
in the most
beautiful
of ways.

Our world is
a house
that carries
many memories.

These memories,
they can
either break you
or leave you
richer in a
sense of
presence.

The ills
of modernity
give us such
narrow blinders.

Don’t waste
your precious hours
wondering why
or attempting
to decipher
the enigma
of life’s meaning
when you could, instead,
be perfecting your gaze.

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.

These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. This is my best part of the poem.

Short but apt.

I guess we all have to stop wondering and worrying about life as worrying does not do anything.

Really beautiful poem

Thank you @bhoa!

You are welcome..

I thought I had my gaze perfected. But lately, it's been more of a thousand yard stare.

Oh, I know what you mean, believe me.

Poetry is one of the means by which we can convey our true thoughts and feelings! That peace of which you speak is a moment of ecstasy without comparison, it can be alone or with company, I think it is the peak of an explosion of emotions.

So glad you enjoyed it!

These memories will go away either or sooner and new ones will be replaced as time goes by.

Indeed, no need to waste time to find the enigma of life’s meaning, otherwise you would be drowned in the enigma.

Good poem my friend, I liked it.

Have a good Friday.

I actually ended up overdosing on suboxone last Friday, just my routine dose after trying to taper myself. Knowing I was dead for a few minutes continually is eating away at me and this post is exactly what I needed.

I'm sorry that happened to you @juniordowjones but am glad that this helped in some way.

Thanks, I'm happy you enjoyed it. Enjoy your weekend!

hello dear friend @ericvancewalton good evening
What a beautiful composition dear friend, how many truths do you say in it; living life is simpler than we can see it, we ourselves are in charge of complicating it
Have a beautiful night

Thank you my friend. Have a wonderful weekend!

What a nice piece of poetry you are sharing and i agree that memories can break us or make us richer. Really waiting for your new book Mindful Moments.

Thanks! The book is already available on Amazon at the link above.

Every person is born for something. And there is no higher task in it than the search for truth, where from the small it is possible and necessary to reach the great. Your poems are instructive. Thank you, very correct and beautiful

Every person is born for something

That is so true. The older I get, the more I believe that our sole purpose is just to know ourselves, work through our personal problems, and realize our true nature.

Thank you!

Wow.. This a lovely Poetry
I love it

Our world is

True, We all shall leave this world one day, to leave a good memory of our life we should be helpful to others as much as possible. Spread happiness in the world. So that When we Left the world, people remember us as good memories.

You are absolutely correct. Thank you!

Hi Eric, thanks for the beautiful poem. Life will be beautiful if we can give and help others in need. There are many joys and sorrows in this life. Happiness will appear if we have a clean and sincere heart. .I hope you have a wonderful day. Happy weekend.

You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it, Eliana. Have a wonderful weekend!
