#SublimeSunday - Let it Rain

IMG_7567.jpg

This post is for #SublimeSunday is inspired by @c0ff33a and #BeautifulSunday is initiated by @ace108 dedicated to @tarazkp for dog sitting this week!

This Sunday, the look in the dog's eye shows how he thinks about 2 hot dry weeks mercifully giving way to rain.

Yesterday, it was sunny and mild. Plenty of garden tasks and a nice walk here in the park. Tomorrow would be a good day to procrastinate the cutting of the lawn to. Not that 2 weeks of no rain made for much grass growth.

The lawn in the back yard was looking a little shaggy but you can't mow in the rain! With plenty or new sprouts and plants, I had to water the lawn with the hose every night for 2 weeks. Sounds like white people problems but I would much rather water using collected rain water. This is the first rain many of these veggies have ever seen so I am looking forward to seeing the effects this week.

You can see my wave petunias literally drinking in the rain water. They do love to get soaked every day being in hanging baskets and planter pots. I hope they like the rain even more.

This one almost looks like it is raising its face to the sky in thanks and the neat little lines could almost be its voice.

I have enjoyed taking pictures of the blooms on the chives that came up again this year. They are getting a little long in the tooth compared to last week but are pepping up just for the new precipitation.

I have quite a few more flower pictures to share in my next #gardenhive post but had to include the peonies here. They come up each year and wait about a month to all pop off at the beginning of June. There are quite a few of them this year and they may even be brighter tomorrow for the rain.

Perhaps the best development, besides the naps and relaxed day, was the sweet sound of the rain barrel filling up. I elevated it a few inches for easier draining and repaired the spouts Chewy the Dog destroyed in the winter. The sticks prop up the makeshift spout simply and I will have rain water to feed the garden for days if this keeps up

Even a rainy day in the garden is thirsty work. My go-to this year for a nice thirst beer in the middle of a day of work has been Radlers. Very light and fruity beers with only 2.5% alcohol so it wont slow you down but is fizzy and refreshing.

Cheers to a very beautiful and sublime Sunday!

Hot & Dry or Rainy where you are??

Sort:

We have had precious little rain here, too! It's a bit of a nuisance for a few veggies I am (trying to) grow(ing), but I do like not having to mow the lawn. I'd be just as happy ripping up the entire lawn and turning it into a garden.

You an me both!

I have been slowly reclaiming the lawn with flower and vegetable beds but not quick enough. I am sure the veggies like the rainwater better than tap water and now they have had a whole night to drink the good stuff.

Good luck with the veggie harvest. Looks like you have a good setup for collecting rain water.

Harvest is a while off but the sprouts are off to a good start.

The rain barrel was given to us for free and I bought a little downspout extension and redirected the roof water to it. Paid off in spades for a climate that has dry spells and veggies I would much rather feed rainwater to.

Paid in spades and in hearts. Maybe, you get the diamonds soon. 😎

You have a great sense of capturing flowers photos, they are just perfect, I really like the due sitting on the flowers.

Haha thanks!

That is actually rain. I have a bunch of sunshine flower pics to share on the #Gardenhive post coming soon! I am such an old lady with my flowers ;)

A daily walk in nature is essential for the soul, at least in my opinion. For me, it's along the beach. Bad weather always puts a downer on this... Missing out for a few days really has a negative effect on me.

I am trying to get myself to be more about the journey than the destination so a walk is good practice.

When the weather is bad, the little guy still needs to go out so I am sometimes the only one there with weather resistant clothes on!

LOL... he's got you locked into a tight routined daily discipline then!😉

It's amazing to have peonies in your garden! They are so gorgeous, aren't they?
I don't have a garden myself, so I only have two indoor houseplants, but I still have the desire to grow vegetables.

They are so great. The best part is they were planted before I moved in and they come up very strong every year.

If I were you, I would start with a pepper (sweet or hot) plant and maybe a tomato plant in pots. They work well!

Rainy!

I'm sure that it will be tasting very nice since it is light. I know that you will surely enjoy it. Have a great day!

Sounds like you had a productive day in the garden yesterday. I love the sound of the rain barrel filling up, too. It's so satisfying to see all of your hard work pay off. And Radlers sound like the perfect way to cool off and relax after a long day of gardening.

Things are growing but still only sprouts so far. The rain barrel is such a great idea for so many reasons including water that is the best for plants.

RADLER TIME!
