Solar Powered Me

in #sun6 years ago

In true stereotypical fashion, more words on the weather from a Brit abroad (for now).

It's been miserable here this past week, amplified by the fact my fellow countrymen have been enjoying a 'proper boiling' Easter. I had considered making the trip back last week, and that was before the ever-changing, generally lies and bullshit forecast said it would be awesome for this time of year, or at any point of the year in the UK really.

Anyway, I didn't go, and instead listened to the wind howl and watched the rain seem to fill this pool right up to the top.

Today though, as you can see, mr sunshine is back. And hopefully he will stick around for the next 5 months because I just feel so much better in body, mind, and soul with a little sun on me each day.

I have more energy in the summer, cycling and swimming happen almost daily. My skin likes the sun, but I don't take the piss and lay there all day - 30 mins to a hour and I'm good. My hair and in particular my scalp are horrible during the colder months, I hope they start to get better after today's ray-blast.

Before I left the UK (and even now occasionally) I'd take vitamin D supplements. I also owned one of those lights that you shine in your face each day - totally crap. Seasonal Affective Disorder got persistently worse without me noticing it over a number of years, and then bam, I was mentally useless and enjoyed little.

Maybe I need my seasons to go from dry to rainy - I only like one of the more traditional 4 seasons. I don't care for red autumn leaves, or icicles dangling from window ledges. Sun please, I can look at the rest on the Internet.

Hard to see the screen outside though isn't it? 😎

Cheers!

Asher

Sun sun sun. I'm the same. Miserable in winter and happy under them golden rays.

And I live in Scotland, what a tadger. Lol!!

How do you do it? Secret trips to the tanning salon? Living off the hearts of recently decapitated neighbours?

Beer usually saves the hearts of the neighbours. ;0)

Like pickling? Nice!

🤣🤣🤣

I’m enjoying the sun in my balcony today and god damn it is gooood! There is still snow in some parts of the ground and ice on the lake but the balcony heats up like crazy when the sun shines, I’m so grateful for it. If I have warmth and sun, I don’t even need much more, some food and a shower and I’m all good.

Sounds like you have a nice sun-spot on your balcony with the fat-boy :)

Warmth, sun, food, outdoor shower, sorted.

I live in a hot climate with typically blue skies in winter, but even so the shorter days in December and January make me fight the blues. The body feels the change. I suppose that is an unconscious reason for the invention of Christmas lights. We need that lost light.

Sound logic!

Is it still warm all year round? I think I could hack the shorter days as long as it's still shorts and t-shirt weather. Do i need to the look to the equator? :)

I live on the coast of North Florida, where we occasionally get a freeze, but no snow. South Florida has no winter.

The equator sounds like hell to me. All things in moderation :)

I like the sound of no winter! Isn't that where the everglades are though? A bit spooky down there.

Moderation with regards to sun is when you leave it for the hammock in the shade :)

After spending a bit of time in the land of hot concrete, bad drivers, and humans everywhere an aligator is a welcome adventure I'm sure. Places that have no winter are just way too popular :)

Bad drivers? I'll fit right in, into an alligators mouth 😱

Yep. It was a truly stunning weekend here. People (or should I say nutters) were actually in the sea. It's that sort of - OMG I'm soooo hot I need to cool off - feeling and then you get to the water and think - Nah. Maybe not!

We didn't make it onto the beach as we were entertaining relatives from Scotland who are convinced it's always blue skies and hot here as it always seems to be when they visit.

Big surprise birthday party for John at the Marina and we were able to sit out on the deck all evening. Brillsville!

Rellies have all gone home now and we're back to overcast.

Although. I must say I'm not too bothered. Saturday was so scorching in the mews I had to retreat to the cool of the house. Just saying!! 😂

Anyway. A wonderful time was had by all and I'm sad it's all over. 😢

I'm not with you on the perpetual summer thing. I've really missed the change of seasons when living in hot climates. In fact I always feel a bit pressured to be in a good mood when it's sunny. Get out of the house and enjoy myself. That sort of thing.

Eeyore is my middle name. 😂

Brillsville!

Sounds like you had a lovely weekend, with some help from Mr sunshine :)

I'm not with you on the perpetual summer thing.

Yeah I know many who like the change, I don't mind being different though :) I don't go out every day in the summer, but I just like having that 90 degrees there, in case I do :)

Thanks for the engage tokens. That all looks rather swish I must say. 😁

I was watching this doctor dude on youtube give a talk about how the body produces serotonin, turns out if you are short on iron and b vitamins you will be making less serotonin. Dont get SAD.

Yeah, SAD is not cool. I do go for lots of greens and multivitamins, try my best cheers!

always grinding

I totally get that. It has been extremely hot here for the time of the year this last week, and I've been more active than I have been in the last couple of months. I'm in a better mood and everything simply looks more attractive and entertaining.

The only downside of sunshine is that it activates my cutaneous lupus, so I need to cover every bit of naked skin with the highest factor sunscreen available and can't stay out for too long. But most of the time, that doesn't bother me... except for today... Too lazy to put on sunscreen, lol.

Maybe you should travel around and follow the seasons,... It is always summer somewhere. (No, that's probably not true. At least, the sun is always shining somewhere, lol)

I'm in a better mood and everything simply looks more attractive and entertaining.

So true!

I have a friend with lupus, they also moved here (other side of the island) from the UK and she has to apply total block on each upper arm. She' acquired' it following a vaccination having worked at a place giving free ones out to drug users. I can't remember what it was for, but she's certain it followed having this jab. wtf :(

Maybe you should travel around and follow the seasons

Give me a steady 4/5$ STEEM and you wont see me for dust, or shades.

Enjoy the sun! And if you have to many of it, ship it over :)

Cheers! And no chance, it's all mine!

You lucky bastard, what a view... It's been rainy here for two weeks -what is this shit, seriously?

No luck involved. Was a huge decision to fuck the UK off, but there is only one reason I'd consider moving back, for a little while at least.

This is downstairs at the apartment complex. The pool needs a clean and it's deceptively brassic. There are peeps in the sea though, I'll be there in June 😬

Weather in southern UK was great at the weekend. Not normal for this kind of year, which helps make a point for the Extinction Rebellion protests.

Yes for sure. I hear there is common opinion that we have 10-15 more years before the situation reaches escape velocity. Will anything change before this time, I am doubtful.

Usually, I'd be looking at your photos of swimming pools and sunny days with a little jealousy. But now, even though we've had a few rainy days here the past few weeks (and, would you believe it, some sun as well) I just smile...Because I know that SOON, I'll be sitting in a similar sunny place too...YESSSS..FINALLY! WHOOP! Sunshine here we come! (well, not just yet, but before the next winter at least)

Hurray! Where are you planning to go to? Is this a holiday or a move?

It will be a move :) And don't tell anyone yet (was planning to make a post about it LOL) 🤫 But you asked, and I can't keep my mouth shut: it will be Portugal. At least then, when I get too depressed because I can't measure up to all those super-model people there, I can always just jump the border into Spain...😂

For a moment there I thought you've gone green :)

I do like a bit of green, although I'm holding some really shafted green-power stocks. One day!

Green power rocks any day.

Sun is great, but don't you miss those relaxed winter days?

Not one bit. I like those relaxed summer days, where I'm not up against a fire or wearing 5 coats!

read and vote tomorrow looks boring. :) night

Cheeky shit!

How many fingers am I holding up? :P

hahaha tha'ts what i needed, just a good laugh all read in under 10 words. lol

@abh12345, Summer brings new energy and our body consumes more light energy for sure. And pool time is best thing to do in this season. Enjoy your time ahead brother.

We are just on the edge of pool weather down here. Bit of a cold front these past few days.

Got myself a new inflatable pool mattress and a mini fridge for drinks. Just need wait for one of them hot summer days now to roll in.

Once you get accustomed to the sun shining every day and enjoying the temperatures, you may never want to go back as it seems that it activates the body to be more active and engaged! Enjoy the Spring while you can!
