Today will be introducing the famous Penang Street Food - Char Koay Teow!
This post might be a bit shorter than my usual review because it's street food, and it's simple and straight to the food introduction, no fancy decorations, no fancy menu. So I went to Penang last month and one of the days I wanted to try some authentic street food. So I went to Presgrave Street Hawker Centre which is just beside the hotel that I was staying. The whole street is filled with street food like Lobak, Wan Tan Mee, Prawn Mee, Char Koay Teow, etc...
That time I was craving for Char Koay Teow so I picked this stall because the old uncle looks like he is more experienced in cooking this dish. And you can make your order and just find a seat inside or outside of whichever shops there, it's THAT convenient. So I just placed my order and sits beside the empty table next to the stall.
Meantime, for your information, Char Koay Teow means "Stir-fried Flat Rice Noodle", translated from Chinese Hokkien terms. The whole dish made out from the rice noodle, stir-fried over high heat with Light and Dark Soy Sauce, Fresh Prawns, Fresh Cockles, Bean Sprouts, Chinese Chives, Chillies (with or without of your choice) and Eggs.
There are 2 choices of Eggs, Chicken Eggs or Duck Eggs (more expensive). Sizes only Small or Big, easy and one, two, three! Of course, you can ask for extra of everything, just need to add extra charges, that's all.
Plus you can ask for the option of Fried Mee too if Koay Teow is not of your liking, but that's not what I am introducing today, hehe...
The old uncle sitting in front of me is the main chef and after he's done with my Char Koay Teow, he took a break to have his prawn mee just beside his stall. The younger man is his son I guess and he was taking orders from the lady and started to prep and cooked for her.
Look at my plate!
The prawns are huge! Plus this stall, they added the Chinese Sausages as well besides the usual ingredients. I choose the normal chicken egg in small size as I'm a small eater and I'm not really fancy duck egg either. This plate just cost me RM 6.50 (USD 1.55). The taste is normal, nothing very special, not like some who uses "Charcoal" to cook.
Overall
I am satisfied though because if you ever in Penang, street food is a must to try, no matter which area or which stalls you choose. This stall is clean and the owner is very friendly, made my visit here enjoyable!
Thank you and see you in my next post!

Ah, lucky you, they have the options!
I always appreciate the sights of Asian food stands. Now, looking at your plate, I think it's time to look away and find a plate myself.
Cheers!
I hope you can find a good one!

Ah! It looks delicious and it seems that they have used no oil here my friend?
I cannot eat any fried food if oils are used.
Blessings!
They do use oil for this, they need it to bring out the fragrance!
May I know why you can't take oily food?
Of course you may know why my friend.
I have a very high hereditary cholesterol count.
Fried foods increases the count putting me in danger of a stroke.
So I have to be very careful of oils and even the foods that I eat.
Blessings!
Ahhh... I understand now. It's good that you are taking care of your food intake my friend!

It looks nice, and far better than I eat here in the UK
Yup, porridge is boring... hehe
Nice wholesome meal @joelai the names are not familiar, the food recognizable which makes the whole project in tasteem interesting to learn about different dishes names around the world.
So true, I've learnt a lot of different food from all over the world from @tasteem too.
