Not Your Average Show Vol 1 is a gig which will happen on 10/3/18 at BlackBox Suria, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This show consist of 10 bands from Sabah and 1 from Kuala Lumpur, and all bands brings different genre to the stage. Here's some short introduction on the organizer and all 11 bands for you to kick start!
XQVINOX
XQVINOX which pronounce " Equinox " was founded 2014 and is an event planner and also an event host to showcase talent. As the interest of youth towards music started to show its decreased, XQVINOX started to make the move in hope to change the situation arise. The president of XQVINOX, Jordan, always keeps youth as their main priority. For all the youths who have a band, please do showcase your band as XQVINOX is one of the platform in Kota Kinabalu. UNITE TO IGNITE
DUMB PILLS
Dumb Pills is a Pop Punk band based in Kota Kinabalu, which is known for their melodic guitar and catchy chorus which promise to brings the crowds to sing along. Fans of Neck Deep or The Story So Far don't have to search no more, as Dumb Pills, start to bring its vibe to BlackBox Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Plus, Dumb Pills is also a newly formed band and this will be their debut performance, so come down, and show your support!!
Words They Fear
Words They Fear was formed back in 2011 at Ranau/Kundasang. And now, they are active in Kota Kinabalu. This Heavy Hardcore boys will blow your mind to the wall!! They have performed at Desolated SEA Asia Tour, Alt HQ KL 2014, Comeback Kid SEA Tour Kuching Sarawak 2013, Second Combat Live in KK 2012, Kids On The Move Live in KK 2013, Full Of Hell Live in KK 2015, The River Card Live in KK 2013 and many more!!!
Beyond My Rage
10 years ago, this Hardcore band called " Beyond My Rage " started to spread around Sabah. Based in Kota Kinabalu, and have been active till' now. They are well-known for their Hardcore and breakdown vibe. Plus, they have released their EP back in 2010 which include their demanding tracks "Friends Of Foe" and "Straight To Ya' Face (feat Mazri of Deadscore)". In 2012, they have release their split EP called " Real Deal " with the Kuala Lumpur hardcore boys, Deadscore. So, if you're a mosh-pit and two-stepping "dancer", I bet you will not wanna' miss them at 10/3/18 at BlackBox Kota Kinabalu Sabah.
Tree
For fans of Post-Rock and shimmering reverb sounding, introducing Tree. Starting their Post-Rockin' invasion in early 2017, Tree produce an ambient vibe kinda sound which is difficult to explain by words. They have played shows around Kota Kinabalu and also 'Private' shows. "Cloud and Mountain" and "Elephant Smile" were released in late 2017 and you can listen it at their Social Media. And yes, you will feel the music the art when you watch a LIVE performance. Watch them LIVE at the "Not Your Average Show: Volume 1" at Black Box, Suria Sabah.
Story Ends
Back in 2012 they were known as 'Soda & Cocaine' and also 'Nice V-Shape'. Taufek (founder) , decided to continue their journey as "Story Ends", marking it as their resurrection for youth to inspire more to Punk Rock. They have released their EP called "Instinct" which include 4 songs. Their hit song, "Progresia", have been aired on local radio and have been positively received by the public and also the local music community in Sabah. Ever heard Blink 182, New Found Glory and Ataris? If you're into it, then you must love this lads!!
Measmata
Measmata is a Metalcore band from Kota Kinabalu. They named their band based on "game' which been called "miasmata", because of the catchy-ness , they decided to name their band "Measmata" which is quite awesome!! Well-known for their energetic all-out performance , plus, with their melodic and aggressive guitar tone, they are able to make people to mosh. They have released self-titled EP in 2016. So, start to organize and prepare your strategic wall-of-death for the sound of Devil Wears Prada!!
Flush Naive
Based in Sandakan, Flush Naive brings you the famous 90's Grunge back in our time! Formed in 2012, they have frequently performing outside of Sabah. One of the venue that they have performed at, was the famous Rumah Api, where all the legends of underground music have performed before they are in the mainstream. They have released numerous demos along their journey. To all Alice In Chains, The Melvins, Nirvana fans, where you at!!?? Come and fill the venue on 10/3/18!!
Gerodok
Their hit song "Bulan 8 Di Sandakan" still fresh to all listener even the song have long played in the underground scene. Gerodok, is no stranger to all listener especially the underground Sabah scene. Making Punk Rock is their main vibe and add some old-school beat in it makes Gerodok as Gerodok! So, come and sing along their songs!!!!
Me Gusta!!
A band who makes the concept and elements of Indie-Alternative Rock, and groove for some spices making them different to any other band in Sabah. Me Gusta!! have performed at Rocktoberfest Miri 2017 along side international and local bands around Malaysia,an opening show for Rockaways Take Over alongside Oh Chentaku, Deja Voodoo Spells and Ovfall(Outfall). They have released many awesome songs, such as their hits, "Keep Moving On". Come and witness the awesomeness of difference!
Chugs On Deck
Have you heard of Easycore genre before? Its consist of Pop Punk and Hardcore elements mix up together. Still confused?? Well, don't worry, this lads will show you what Easycore is! Chugs On Deck was formed back in 2014 and have released their debut EP "Superhero In Love" in 2016. Their song, " Dance! Friend" have been promoted and showcased for the band introductory in music scene. Show like NegaRAKU KK Tour, Northern Music Festival 2016 and also an opening act for an Easycore band called Scarlet Heroes Album Release Party at The Bee Publika. One of the band that you can't miss!!
Scarlet Heroes
Over the past 4 years, Scarlet Heroes have been developing their unique brand of Pop Punk. They released their debut EP "The Heroes Are Coming" in 2013. The success of the EP brought the band opportunities to play big stages in places like The Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and perform with some of their favorite bands such as Pierce The Veil, Issues, Mayday Parade, Neck Deep, The Used, Sleeping With Sirens, Red Hot Chili Peppers and others. Recently they have released their first Full-Length Album entitled "Somewhere Under The Atmosphere" where according to them, it is a mixture of influences - from classic and modern Pop Punk.
