[Soul Calibur] Reminiscing the game from the teenage years.

in #teammalaysia4 years ago

Soul Calibur is an arcade game which really took me back to those younger years. It was quite popular back then but it never took off as much as Tekken did. But still, it was really a good arcade game.

Honestly, compared to Tekken, I preferred Soul Calibur more. Even among my friends, most of them liked Tekken. Maybe because I feel the characters on Tekken wasn't diverse as the ones in Soul Calibur (back then). Of course, there are many unique characters now which was unlike when it was first started.

The gameplay is basically similar to Tekken. It is a duel game, a fighting game eventually until your opponent losses. It is basically a straight forward duo-battle game. All you need to do is to make sure you know all the moves, memorize them and practice those fingers. As the saying goes, "Practice makes perfect!"

If I still remember, they are around 27 characters with unique style and abilities. Back then, I remember each and every one of the moves! I'm not so sure now though, lol!

Everyone has their own favourite character, mine is Nightmare. Probably the main reason I liked him aside from dark and cool looking guy, he was like my definition of Knight in Shining Armour. Come to think about it, that was maybe the reason I loved this game compares to Tekken. Tekken was too oriental influenced and the highlight of the game was too much of Heihachi, Jin and Kazuya. Unlike Soul Caliber, it was more of a Western-influenced. That's where the awesome knight comes in. But rest assured, I liked playing both.

The second character I really like was Cervantes. He wasn't just a pirate guy but a cool two bladed pirate guy. I likes him because it wad really cool to have a guy yielding two short swords. I still remember one of his spinning moves too!

To my surprise, there was actually Soul Caliber VI on PS4 which I never knew of! How come I missed that and it only costs around $40 bucks? Well, I think I might have to wait a bit until my baby princess gets a bit older. She's just 3 months now and I am quite occupied at the moment. But, time will come!

I know the graphics of the game is way much better compared to those back then. Boxy image with fewer pixels which what the game unique in its own way. I remember playing in the arcade store after school. It was truly a cherished memory!

The evolution of the graphics and animation has brought all games into a new height and level beyond good. It has brought the gaming industry into a lucrative industry. I never had the chance of looking at Soul Caliber VI yet, but I am planning to do so soon! So far, the graphics are a killer. I hope I still remember those moves, lol!

Briefly looking at the screenshot was enough to make me want to unpack that PS4 which I kept im the drawer. The graphic looks real dope! Can't wait! I can't wait!

That said, I truly missed those teenage days where playing games was really hard to come by. Smartphones and high-end computers weren't even around yet and that what makes the arcade game a gem.

Sort:

Soul Calibur 6 came out after Tekken 7 has finished it's console release. Weirdly enough, Tekken still see some arcade releases while the Soul series started concentrating on console releases with Soul Calibur 4 and recently via Steam with Soul Calibur 6. Tekken is undoubtly popular, with the recent Tekken 7 is a commercial and critical success. But Soul Calibur has a strong following, and that's the reason why Soul Calibur 6 is possible after the development of Tekken 7. The Soul still burns. :D

True! I hope they'll continue producing Soul Calibur, it's just full of memories.

"Transending history and the world, the tale of Souls and Swords, eternally retold." Love that intro!

Bandai Namco is continuing their support for Soul Calibur 6 with more DLC coming up, as well as Tekken 7. Hopefully they'll announce something tommorow for their fighting games.
