The Future Is Near

To The Future And Beyond!

That's right fellow Steemians in this post we will be talking about the future and believe me when I say it's near it'll be here before we know it sort of like the clover field movies. Now we might not be able to explore the galaxies and become space pirates anytime soon, there are plenty of things going on right now which I would like to think are small step leading into the future some people have already taken these steps and soon we might all need to decide if we are going to take these step or get left behind.

Today I would like to talk about these few things that you may or may not know which could lead us into a very different future. In the past we have already made the necessary steps which lead us into the world we live in today and the world we live in may very be like a Hollywood movie.

Body Modification

That's right body modification and I'm not talking about plastic or silicone here this my friends is the real deal, there already exists several different forms of body modification or implants that people have began to "modify" themselves with it. Some of them might seem ridicules like implanting LED likes to look something that should be in comic books, the implant which turns you into a human compass or biomagnets sure they might be fun but I think we should talk about what I think could be the future.

Microchip Implants

Source

I know I know this might be old news and many of you might actually already be familiar with these implants but I just had to include this. There are a few different type of these chips and for man different uses but all of them
could make our lives easier. They could be used for our medical history, law enforcement, contact information and even an external database.

After getting these chips we don't really need to walk around with our wallets any longer, with the NFC (near-field communication) chip implants we can make payments, unlock your computer or phone and even doors. That's right, we no longer need to worry about losing our keys if we got one of those.

In the near future we might also be able to make a GPS-enabled chip then we could physically locate the chips latitude, longitude, altitude, speed, and direction of movement. Just image for a second how this could help us locate missing people, track down fugitives or just to spy on your spouse.

It might sound fun and all but of course it comes with problems and the main problem is security risks to be more exact our privacy, There is no guarantee that the information on the Implants is 100% safe. Another concern might be that one day when these chips are widely used other people could literally "scan" us and be able to know more about us and they could use the information to benefit themselves.

Neil Harbisson

Source

Next we've got Neil Harbisson, Now Neil Harbisson isn't a body modification but he is one of the few people who have taken the steps most of us might not dare venture into. As of now Harbisson has 3 different modifications which I will try to get into.

Cyborg Antenna

The cyborg antenna was created to be a new sensory organ which would enable us to extend our limitations of colour perception. Neil Harbisson has permanently implanted the cyborg antenna on his head which is inserted into his skull and it is clearly visible over his head. The Cyborg Antenna can detect colour frequencies in front of it,The information is then sent into a chip behind his head. It then produces different sounds for different colours.

Sure, it might sound like a hassle to have to memorize all the sounds for all the different colours and it might also seem useless if we aren't colour blind. But here I'd like to image what might be possible when this technology is developed to do more than just identify colour.

Solar Crown

Now this is still new so I do not know much about it, what I do know is that it is another sensory organ. The Solar Crown is a point of heat which would rotate or orbit around his head. The goal of this is not as simple as telling time but he aims to practically take Einstein's theory of relativity to the test. Once He gets accustomed to the Solar Crown if he could trick his mind into perceiving time differently and alter his perception of time. If this does work he could theoretically control his perception of time.

Virtual Reality

Source

The main use for virtual reality at this point is in the gaming industry but in the near future the way we live our daily lives may change drastically, the way we interact with anything digital could possibly change. Say goodbye to phone calls or video calls because pretty soon we might be able to be with them virtually in real time. Office's could be equipped with screens, there might not even be a need for us to leaves our homes to work or go to school.

combined with the brain-computer interface (BCI) we might literally be able to put those googles on sit back and we wouldn't even need to move to do whatever it is we do on our computers.

Artificial Intelligence

Source

This is probably going to be the most controversial technology ever well maybe in time when the figure out how to alter time people would freak out even more but for now this is it A.I. after dozens of block buster hits we are convinced that A.I will be the end of us and not too many people believe we can coexist with A.I in harmony.

However for a minuet just get rid of the terminator or whatever movie is in your head and imagine how much easier and safer our lives would be if and when we are able to side by side with A.I. They could patrol the city helping people in need or helping the law enforcement they could also help outside our normal lives. They could help scientists to get into places we can't like the bottom of the ocean. well that is until they decide to take over the world.

The Internet of Things

]

Source

When this becomes a reality on a major scale the lives of everyone in the city will change together. The line between the digital world and our daily lives will blur since everything is connected. Now this might seem to be a scary thing for some people but just think of it.

Image a scenario where let's say there has been an accident on the road, today what would likely happen is of course a big traffic jam and everyone on the road getting extremely frustrated and honking around the authorities would also have a problem getting there because of the traffic. But with the Internet of things and when everything is connected then when something was to happen the proper authorities would be notified almost instantly and it would generally make the lives of everyone a heck of a lot easier.
